🇲🇪 Day 4. Montenegro Bikepacking Adventures. On the Way to Durmitor
On the fourth day of the journey, the route took us along the Tara River Canyon towards the Đurđevića Tara Bridge. From there, we faced a 12-kilometer climb up to the Durmitor National Park plateau. We then deviated from the main road, venturing through the lakes on the outskirts of the park. The day concluded in a scenic campground within the park. Did everything go smoothly? How did the Merida eSilex 600 handle the challenges? Was it an easy ride? Watch and find out.

The second day's route takes us along a winding road through Komovi Nature Park. It's a breathtaking but challenging ride, even for the Merida eSilex 600. I stop for lunch at the pass before quickly descending. Later, I find a motel along the highway a little further north, where I discover a fantastic seafood restaurant nearby. 🤝 Support the channel and access additional content: ☕️ buymeacoff...
🇲🇪 Day 1. Montenegro Bikepacking Adventures. Pedaling to the North

The first day of my journey. A bit of nerves, some excitement, and I'm on my way. My Merida eSilex 600 is loaded with bikepacking gear containing all the essentials-plus a few unnecessary items. My route leads north. I need to reach at least the village of Mateševo, 65 km away, with an elevation gain of 1,500 meters, including a continuous 20-km climb. My choice of route depends on distance, elevation, and time. Often, the best option is the highway. And honestly, there aren't many other options here. Drivers in Montenegro usually pass at a safe distance, but there are exceptions, which can be unnerving. The key is to stay visible and avoid sudden movements.

    Have tried both bike packing bags and panniers, but found panniers worked best for me. Could never get a bag able to fit my laptop! (mainly a commuter) Got a Merida gravel bike as well, but it didn't have enough suitable mounting points for a pannier rack. Had to get another seat post clamp, which had mounting points/threads, which then allowed me to fit a rack. Never heard of Aeroe before, but New Zealand gear is usually top quality!

    • @beyondthebikeroads
      @beyondthebikeroads 3 месяца назад

      This is weird. Merida designed the back rack specifically for the Silex. It may not be the right one for you, but I’m glad you found the optimal solution for yourself.

    12L seems so tiny! My solution: get an Old Man Mountain rack. Designed for full suspension, load is carried through a solid replacement axle. Makes brilliant sense as weight rides where it is designed. And the Ortlieb panniers literally lock onto rack. Perfect for camping, shopping or commuting. Each bag is 40L. Perfect!

    Bike packing dry bags are morphing into panniers. My question is: Are you doing dry bags for the look or because you think panniers look old fashion? There is an old saying going all the way back to the Romans. The best way is the simplest way. Cramming all your gear into tubes is not the simplest way.

    • @beyondthebikeroads
      @beyondthebikeroads 3 месяца назад

      My personal opinion is the look and quality of the bags. Where and how they are attached. Same place as regular panniers. But not a panniers. Sure, it is a matter of preference for each cyclist. But we have an alternative and that’s great.

Going shopping is simple, getting on to trains is simple No front panniers because I don't have four hands Sure, if I was Avalokiteshvara then I could carry all those little bits at once, but I don't have 1,000 arms So I'll stick with the panniers thanks

      I don't plan on taking these bags off when I stop. We are talking about short stops only. Yes, it's not safe. But then it’s not safe to leave the bike at all. For valuables I use a handlebar bag. And it includes a compact shopping backpack. This bag I take any getting off the bike.

    Awww ... Sometimes mechanical probs come when you really dont want/need them 😑How many kms total you planned for those 2 days ? Also as I am quite new to your channel ... Are you suffering from some specific illness !? If so its really brave from you to keep pedaling and practicing like that ! Thumbs up

      The distance is only 108 km. Of these, 30 km are gravel. But the climb is 2700 meters. It's too much for one day. No. I haven't any illnesses. Yet. I’m not trying to get records, just to enjoy the ride.

    You have the bike so loaded, you have food with you? Or for how many days you’re traveling?

      It seems like I'm too loaded. The plans were for a two-day trip. Food for two days. Where I was going, there was nothing there at all.

    Hey, thanks for the review. Just got my Scott Speedster Gravel 30 a few months ago. Now my girlfriend wants to start biking with me too. However as you said Gravel Bikes are (way more) expensive and she can't afford one. Before she had an old MTB but it was pure pain for her to reach any kind of speed of course so she wanted something faster but still with some off-road capability. Today I found out about those hybrid bikes and they seem to be perfect. Way cheaper than a Gravel Bike, still nice components, faster than a MTB but still fun off road. :) We will check them out in some stores in a few days. She already fell in love with the Sub Cross 30. :D Much love from Germany. <3

      Yes, Sub Cross 30 is a good choice. It has a slightly simpler gears than the 20th. But this is not particularly noticeable. Travel pleasures!
