Fun stuff
next challenge since this one is done: nofebrureverbary jams ;-) a very nice piece.
I think I will do HavingARestuary next ! Actually I’m beta testing at the moment so that will be a nice change 🤔
@@geotony well... my youtube home page feels empty now that I can't have my daily dose of new geotony...
love it! grats on jamuary success!
Thanks for the listen and comment, I’m a big fan of saxophones in churches so I enjoyed doing this one 😊
I like it a lot. The GS patch at 1:20 sounds gorgeous. The (spoiler alert) were an efing great addition!
Thanks Joseph. This was a last minute track as I couldn’t make the one I planned to do work. I’ll have to revisit that one. The sound at 1:20 is Motorlab, Dream States preset.
you're facetious brother....
No Piano Motifs were hurt in the production of this tune… actually it was ChordJam this time 😊
I declare:a draw (everybody wins)
Nice one 👍
The title pretty much says it all. But I’m also picking up a sense of impending trouble. Cool. And I now know the difference between a Phrygian and a Phrygian Dominant scale.
Cheers Andy. I was pleased with how this one came out… I’m also pleased and very surprised that you’ve learned something from one of my videos 😊
Nice groove. You get a better sound from GeoOboe than I do from the SWAM version. Perhaps it is the Phrygian improv that sets it up so well?
Thanks Andy, I think perhaps it’s got more (possibly too much?) of that honky, nasally sound that makes the oboe so distinctive. Funnily enough I’ve just posted a video using the SWAM English Horn.
Love it
What is this software
Hi, not 100% sure which software you mean but everything is running on an iPad. AUM is the host / container that everything else is running in. The drone is supplied by several SWAM (Audio Modelling) instruments going through some effects, specifically Velvet Machine and Mood Units Loch Awe Filter. The flute is the GeoBassFlute which is an instrument within GeoShred which is also the playing surface. Ask away if you need anymore info !
If it wasn't for the guitar, this song is very Bladerunner-esque. It gives me vibes of melancholy and tranquillity at the same time. Very nice. And I also find it technically very impressive.
Many thanks… I think it’s the Fretless Vibrato bass that does it 👍
Lovely sound. You’re geoshredding is what it is. They should hire you as an ambassador
My beards not as photogenic as Jordan Rudess‘s !
That workflow doesn’t do well with strings for me.
I guess at the end of the day it’s a series of more or less random notes put through some nice sounding apps so I can’t disagree too much 🤔 Wait till tomorrows which will be even more random 😊
A moody atmospheric scene-setter that conjures up , for me, a drone flight over the desert at night, with the occasional Bedouin camp providing the only signs of life.
Thanks Colin, don’t use the Bass Flute often but I think it’s one of the better Geo instruments 🙂
the geoshredding is good, something lynchian with the very classic moog part and mechanical kinda bass/drums. as for the mistakes.... well.
I put the mistakes in on purpose to prove that I’m not an AI construct 🤖
@@geotony that is exactly what an AI construct would say…
You already know what I'll say ;-)
Hold on… give me a minute… it’s coming to me… 🤔
Another nice relaxing and reflective piece!
Thanks Colin, I guess my default track is a sort of droney sax concoction but I enjoy them so what the hell 😊
Lovely imagery comes to mind of looking out from the porch of a house in India overlooking fields over which a tropical storm is seen in the distance.
Cheers Colin. I was happy with this one. Some issues with levels to begin with I think but in general it all worked out ok 👍
a couple glitches here and there detract from an otherwise beautful piece. Could you record everything in logic as midi and edit those? or is it not possible with geoshred?
Thanks Joseph. Recording the midi is absolutely possible. GeoShred is no different to any other app in that respect. I use AUM but again it’s possible to record midi and edit. I never do that however as my way of removing glitches is just to play the whole thing again ‘live’. By doing this I get better at playing (theoretically 😊). In the case of this track, time was getting on and we were frazzled after looking after two nephews so in the spirit of Jamuary I posted this version. When I get round to posting on SoundCloud I might do another take as I enjoyed this one.
I like the sound of the flugelhorn in your hands. You do a great job of making it sound natural. Keep the Jamuary posts coming!
Thanks Mac, there’s something about this one that just didn’t work for me but I do like a nice flugel 😊
the king of geoshred strikes again. The flugelhorn would have benefited from some EQ though.
Cheers Joseph, I was happy with the tune but that’s about it with this one. Just couldn’t get it to a point where I was happy with it. There’s always todays, tomorrows etc etc…
that was cool! those creatures do the job.
I let them out of their tank once a year whether they need it or not !
Nice glitchy vibes
👍
the spirit of Evangelos is alive.
Do you mean the owner of the local kebab shop ? 😊
Love the sounds you used in this. Especially the deep bass. Your Jamuary posts continue to be a great source of entertainment!
Thanks Mac. Waverley is another sole developer set of apps where he, Rob, has moved onto other things. As well as producing a track a day I’m also trying to use every app I have so it’s doubly challenging but fun 🤔
Excellent guitar soloing but would be nice to hear the backing a bit louder too.
Fair point Colin, listening to it again I think a little more would have been better 👍
This is really a super good track.you nailed it. again.
Very kind of you to say Joseph 🙏
Really brought out your inner Gilmour 🎸. Nicely played!
Thanks Fernando. Something about the chord progression inspires this sort of playing I think.
I like the full "Gilmour" treatment! Very proficient! Are you a guitar player? You seem to have the licks. As a keyboard player I have difficulty relating to the GeoShred layout. I sometimes have to look at the piano keyboard to work out which notes I need in GeoShred. I suppose practice is the key… The Cinematix backing track is also just right, beautifully atmospheric but not intrusive.
Thanks Steve. Very bad acoustic guitar player in teens and twenties. Then arthritis knackered my hands. Then I found GeoShred 4.5 years ago. First couple of years I just practiced, treating it like a ‘real’ instrument. I’m now a far better GeoShred player than I ever was a guitar player 😊
Lovely mallet sounds and I notice you didn't seem to get the glitch I nearly always get when I open jazz drummer in AUM while the transport is running! Maybe its just my old iPad 😉
Yes I noticed that on your video. As far as I can measure on my iPad Pro, opening Jazz Drummer takes the DSP from about 30 something to 50 something so I guess it’s quite substantial.
NaadSadhana is a new app to me! You nailed the vibe though!
Ta, the free version is pretty good. It’s actually a pretty clever app but not worth the subscription for me.
Nice! I especially like the melody when the drum comes in.
Cheers Colin, it was a spur of the moment thing but worked out ok !
Beautiful! Some lovely chords in there!
Thanks Colin, no idea what most of them are 😊
you really captured that mood. this is an absolutely excellent track.
🙏
Which violin library is this?
Hiya, the DS sounds are Flute&Violin by Jon Meyer, Woven Strings, Korg Phase 8 and Metal Desk Lamp. The violin is SWAM Violin set to play the 2nd harmonic.
my second favorite of your jamuary thing. I would have gone easier on the bends though they feel super unnatural in this context.
Thanks Joseph, I hadn’t thought of that in the context of the ‘instrument’… listening to it again I tend to agree… no Piano Motifs though so I’m making progress but not sure for how long 😊
Very lovely. Hearing piano sounds from Geoshred is a bit odd to me but you do it so well.😊
Thanks Mac, it’s a bit primitive and not particularly well played but there’s the basis of a nice tune in there somewhere !
Simplicity leads to beauty. Nice tune Tony! Is it improvised?
Thanks Fernando. My tune / chord improvisation is not that good so this was planned out beforehand 😊
Ethereal, calming… ☁️🕊️
Thanks Fernando 🙏
Very relaxing!
Cheers Colin. Decent Sampler does have some great sounds 👍
Nice minimalist backing. Not an easy one to play over but I like the echoing you do at times with the Soprano Sax in GeoShred
Thanks Colin
You really need to find an alternative to piano motif. The geoshrdding is lovely. Piano motif isn't
You’re a hard man to please 😊but I do appreciate the listening and the comments. I admit to a slight Piano Motif addiction! I’m genuinely interested in what it is you dislike about it so that 1) I can try and come up with something better and 2) I have a good relationship with the developer and I could potentially feed something back to him. DM me via the forum if you want to.
I'm totally not a fan of piano motif. Nice flute though.
1 out of 2 ain’t bad 😊 I treat it very much as somebody who throws new pieces of music at me and says ‘what can you do with that?’
definitely my favorite in 2025 so far.
Many thanks. I was very happy with this one.
geoshred is really fit for those scales. nice play!
GS comes with 100s of scales and this was the default one for the Duduk. It’s an incredibly deep app the more you dig into it.
nice gentle mood 🙂
Thanks Joseph, it was a bit rambling I’m trying to keep them as jams rather then carefully constructed pieces 😊
ooh that viola sounds lovely through Alteza (well I guess most things do, actually!) 😄
True… very true !
Like all my favorite guitar heroes you do a great job of mixing fluid melodic lines with amazing flurries of dexterous arpeggios with style and flair. Another great addition to your Jamuary collection this year!
You’re too kind Mac… I’m gradually getting better at producing something musical rather than just playing scales up and down (I think). I’m a big fan of guitarists like John Mcglaughlin, Al Di Meola, Terje Rypdal and the like… not sure who your heroes are ?
@geotony Al Di Meola was one. I wore the grooves out of my friend's copy of Casino. Frank Gambale was another in the fusion genre. I lean more towards neo-classical metal but I appreciate the great players regardless of the genre
@@madeofwax3489 Do you have an examples I can listen to ? It’s not an area I’m that familiar with.
@@geotony @geotony The most well known would be Ynwgwie Malmsteen ruclips.net/video/e7F3FoCgFvU/видео.htmlsi=12s_DnwasAKXHbQ5 but people accused him of "just playing scales up and down". Tony MacAlpine ruclips.net/video/OBgaksTijkQ/видео.htmlsi=qDt7CK7GVuaThOo9 and Vinnie Moore ruclips.net/video/T1hRsHv1bJQ/видео.htmlsi=sdnGV-6lxR7xEyex are some others.
Excellent playing on Geoshred as usual! Nice overall tune too!
Thanks Colin. I was happy with the tune, it came to me a couple of minutes before recording this so I was very pleased. Playing could be better but I always think that 😊
that geoshred app sounded great, what does that run on?
Hi, it runs on iPhone and iPad allowing it to be played via the screen. It also now runs on Macs where you can use it in a DAW and use say a keyboard to play it or optionally control it via an iPhone or iPad via the screen again.
