Nothing new to me, that’s how I did it 35yrs ago to help a friend lift Godzilla (24” in diameter & 4’ tall) using a Little Giant Ladder & using a hoist!
Good day. My friend removed a 30 plus years golden barrel from his garden and gave it to me. Most of the roots broke off and I want to plant it in a huge container. I am from South Africa and we are going into our wet and cold winter season. What is the best course of action regarding preserving or storing it till spring because if I plant it now in the container it will be wet most of the time due to the rain. My email address is grahamwhitman1@gmail.com . You can reply here or mail me. Any advice would be highly appreciated.
Hi Charles, wow, I never knew about "come-a-longs". Where do you get them? Are they expensive? Do you rent them? Very helpful video. However, it would have been so much more helpful if you would have shown in detail how you attached the items you used to lift the cactus. I guess maybe it's just common sense everyone else but for me, it would have been a challenge to figure that part out. Thank you Charles.
The towel was held in place by the spines but he said he helped secure it with duct tape just to be sure. The come-a-long is a tool I know to be used by flat bed truck drivers to help secure Tage and heavy loads to the flat bed. You might be able to rent them, a good hardware store could help you with that. Another possibility is to use a couple of good quality ratchet straps......or you could get a friend good and drunk so they don't feel the pricks and give them a hoodie to wear under a thick leather jacket and bear hug the cactus out 😅😅
Great job! I have the same, also due for repotting, before checking this video I was thinking along the lines of a tripod hoist setup to achieve the same. I'm surprized your hook held. :)
i am amazed that your golden barrel are like grown up children. i just bought mine a few weeks ago and i’m hoping it will grow big along my youngest son. thanks for the video!
OKay I only watched the Intro and I am gonna say how I would it and see how it matches up....ready? I would take a laundry basket filled with fluffed up old rag blankets/towels/rags whatever and then only holding the pot part upside down over the laundry basket I would have a helper push a stick into drain hole so cactus pops out and land gently on rags....Then I would take it to my previous drug hole or larger pot and simply gently tip the basket over so it lands roots down in hole ....I have done this several times and it worked Perfect! To move the cactus to the side to add potting soil and straighten out etc I would wear heavy gloves and use something like broom etc to tilt it....anything not sharp yet stiff enough ...brush/broom stick with rag wrapped and taped to end etc.....okay now let's compare to advice here
I like my way better ....more foolproof.....and EASIER....trust me!....personally I would have straightened it out in the new larger pot.....but I guess he likes it angled ....which is kind of cool unless you want to rotate it and it looks funny tilting away from Sunny side.....
Nice I'll be waiting for the 20 year update good video and very nice cacti!
Nice job. Was hoping to see you fill the soil to make sure that I repotted mine correctly. Great video though noire I can plan for the future
Ingenious!!!
I have one the size of a cantalope that my niehbor gave me...I Love yet am terrified of it because She has such long 1&1/2 sharp quills..😂😂😂
Great video, any updates on the cactus these days?
Cool. Mine is only a few years old. I am just wondering where I will put it on the windowsill 20 years later...
А я вчера сама пересадила 40-сантиметровый эхинокактус,без подъемника.
Сколько лет Вашему кактусу?
Enjoyed your video...I have had three friends for the last 5 years. I drink my coffee with them...every morning🙏🏿
This video is amazing! We should all go back to videos like this on RUclips!

Only 14 years to go
These barrel cacti are beautiful and i bought a couple of 10 year old ones. One thing is for sure, these will poke you relentlessly and with no mercy.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😂 you did that man! 🤙🏽
What a good cactus daddy you are! There is absolutely NO root loss on that thing. Very nice plant.

Round cactus
Bravo! I just purchased my first one today and it’s about five years of age ..
Mike Pence is that you?
I always wondered how this was done. Absolutely fascinating!! Thank you. All of mine are small minus my thanksgiving cactus. 😊
🤗🤗👍👍🌵🌵❤️❤️
Good luck trying to lift that cactus up with your hands
"Transplant" haha

Fantastic, sweet golden barrels dude and this is by far the funniest thing i saw today 🤣👍😊
Awesome video!
Great job! Interesting how this fellow looks nowadays.
👍👍👍🌵
The way the cactus is rotated is disturbing my perfectionist mind😂
Even if you put the cactus in the pot perfectly straight it’ll slowly lean south over time, so no point in trying to get it even
This was so cute lol
AWESOME!!!!
nice!!

Hope your son and that barrel cactus is doing great!
Did it get as big as his yet?
@@TheGoldenAge_1558Def not. These only grow 1 inch a year!
i envy you and want that in my collection
ugh...those are gorgeous cacti
I'd be interested to see how much that cactus has grown in 4 years
Probably not much... Cactuses grow very slowly lol
@@ak_icedviking5778 lmao tell that to my cactus that doubled in size one summer 🤣.
@@ak_icedviking5778 That’s why I don’t like growing cactuses anymore
Love this
this is the best video on the internet !
