Icon ratchet modification ... is it better now ???
Got this 1/2 drive Icon ratchet a while back from Harbor Freight because of the length of the handle and Snap-on doesn't make one that size. But the back drag on this Icon ratchet is just out of this world compared to the Snap-on dual 80 1/2 drive ratchets. I made some improvements to see if I could improve on this Icon ratchet. I'll run it for a while and report back to you

    Interesting assessment! I'll check back when my Gen 2 stubby arrives. From my experience, the 5.0 battery on my old 3/8 Gen 1 stubby doesn't make a night-and-day difference. If you go from a 4.0 battery that you typically use, it might feel that way, but I run mine with 6.0 and HO 5.0 batteries, and they feel the same. That being said, the new Gen 2 seems to be a powerful tool. Other users have compared it with their old stubbies. I got the 1/2 version because everyone who has both versions says that, in real-world conditions, the 1/2 can remove fasteners that the 3/8 can't.

    • @CountryMileGarage
      @CountryMileGarage 11 дней назад

      5.0 battery is a game changer in itself imo, die grinder impact and other tools perform better with the 5.0 vs the 4.0. I use 3/8 more than 1/2 especially when working on vehicles when working on farm tractors I use 1/2 a lot. Personally, I'm not impressed with the new stubby impact, but I am impressed with the 5.0 battery ... thank you for watching

    • @johnny4713ify
      @johnny4713ify 11 дней назад

      @CountryMileGarage My new Stubby arrived yesterday, and I have to say, it's a noticeable jump in power from my Gen 1 3/8. The first thing I noticed was the higher RPM-it’s faster, and you can really hear and feel it when you pull the trigger. Mine is the 1/2" version, so it’s not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison, but the 1/2" tore through every fastener I tested with ease. With the higher RPM, though, you do feel more vibration, or “Ugga Duggas,” in your hand. And I agree, the 5.0 battery definitely gives tools a serious boost. Something that doesn’t get talked about enough is the impact socket choice. I have a few different brands, including some inexpensive no-name ones from Amazon, and I’ve noticed that the weight and thickness of the same size socket can vary a lot based on the material. For instance in my case, the cheap CR-V sockets in my tool box are usually lighter and have thinner walls compared to better built CR-MO sockets. If you’re on a budget, Duralast impact sockets are surprisingly good-they’re heavy and made from CR-MO, which is important for quality and less prone to break. My point is that the more mass your socket has, the easier it is on both you and the tool. A beefier socket, like the famous Honda Lisle 19mm “Big Bertha,” helps transfer more power when removing a fastener, while a thinner, lighter socket may struggle. So when people say they don’t feel a difference in performance, that could be part of the reason. Just my two cents

      @johnny4713ify thank you for the feedback I'm glad to hear that yours is better than mine lol. I'm running Gearwrench impact sockets and they have been great for me so far. I'm hearing I'm not the only one who has problems with the new stubby impact, so if I have to guess I just had a dud and after using it a couple times the anvil locked up ... I'm a big Milwaukee fan but this was NOT a good experience. Thank you for watching and the feedback

      @@CountryMileGarage No worries-I'll check in if mine starts giving me trouble. My take is that if these tools turn out to be problematic, like the 'High Torque' debacle not too long ago, I know Milwaukee will take care of it. Besides, it has a 5-year warranty. Speaking of warranties, they've hooked me up more than once at no cost, and sometimes they'd even just send me a new tool 😁. Meanwhile I'll rock this sucker and see how it goes.

    Oh and if you want to quiet it down fill the void in the backside of the anvil with the super hard to get grease red and tacky. I ve also been testing with graphite powder and have been getting amazing results. I'll put something together in my community page showing what I do to dial them in. Graphite is butter smooth and gives you no interaction between the o rings and metal parts. I'd also like to highlight where Snappy in my opinion drops the ball in the 3/8 anvil in 1/4 body. You can order additional kits that avoid the pitfalls.

    • @CountryMileGarage

  • @t6tools
    @t6tools 18 дней назад

    The Snappy should be lubricated with superlube which is a bit thicker than oil. If you clean up the Snappy and oil instead of grease you will see similar backdrop results. The lube is a better for pawl and gear oil in terms of longer term ware. You can also flatten the cam clip (m shaped piece) in the Snappy and get a lighter back drag. Always great to see folks making adjustments and fine tuning the tools. Play with the cam clip and you can get the Snappy to almost feel like a Koken or ktc.

    How many 5 gallon buckets are in a corn wagon?

    • @CountryMileGarage
      @CountryMileGarage 20 дней назад

      @@robertbuck7186 we had a 140 bushel grain wagon and we had about 20 bushels left over at spring time. So a 5 gallon bucket not slap full is 1/2 bushel. Hope this helps and thank you for watching

    The right way would be to diagnose whether it’s a cable or handle(most common failures) and just replace it. This is the Joe Dirt way 😂

      @@nordicpride9708 you clearly don't own one of these. After changing twice and breaking for the third time it's clearly a faulty design and it's time to be smarter than the dang engineer who designed it ... thank you for watching

    Appreciate the review! I've been shopping CDI , Snap On, and Precision Instruments for my 1/2" torque wrench...looks like I might be going PI

      PI used to make torque wrenches for Snap-on but that changed when Snap-on bought CDI, you will not be disappointed with PI they make a quality product imo ... thank you for watching
