I have also used them to make 3 way rigs and these work perfectly. Haven't had any issues with them snagging in rocks or in weeds yet.

I'd probably stick the entire thing, with MiG that wind you got might blow your inert gas and create porosity, taking more time in the long run grinding it out and rewelding it. Unless you got insanely high gas flow or a temporary cover for the work space to keep the wind out. I don't miss welding outside at all.
