Not to cast aspersions, but them boys with the black berries look like veterans of a more recent campaign. Probably the 40s/50s, peers of Brendan Behan, by the look of them. The gloves they wear gives them that gunman menace; that their business is not yet done…..go dtí go dtiocfá a lá. Well it looks like Brexit is doing what generations of volunteers failed to achieve. Another 10 years ‘s beidh a lá tagaithe.

I didn’t know about the Cumann na mBan and the role of these women until I found this, and researched it. They were certainly brave women, dedicated to the cause.

I've never seen this shown on British TV. Strange, that...

Fine men, fine men indeed, broad shouldered, tall, straight as a die, and comparing the Gardai standing around, most of them are over 6ft tall...Some of them are veterans of the war of independence, the civil war...and maybe 1916...I wouldn't mess with any of them...salute from Galway...

Ha, RUclips put this on my list of recommended videos. It probably figured that geographically, I was close to Ballina and would probably be interested in some historical footage of a town near me. Well, it was right - kinda. I live very close to Ballina...............Australia!! This is clearly footage from Ballina in Ireland. It took me a little while to work it out, I kept thinking; where is the ocean and the beautiful girls in bikinis and the Holden station wagons with surfboards hanging out of the tail gates or on the roof racks? All of which would have been typical of Ballina, Australia, in 1966. Not to mention, sunburnt kids licking dripping ice creams with towels wrapped around their waiste's walking barefooted on scorching footpaths while seagulls swooped, searching for unguarded hot, salty, chips. Ah, those were the days! Thanks, RUclips ......for the memories! Believe it or not, I'm Irish by descent.

hi I was born in ballina & attended this church until I went to England the last time I was in st muredachs was for dads funeral 1976 on your video at 0.57 there is a shot of the choir area is that or has it ever been just over the entrance the building on the left of the church was a tech school is it still used as a tech. their was a water pump very near there I would take two buckets of water to murphys flour mill where I worked thanks for your post.
