It's not even that it attacked you and that you didn't see it coming. It's the abject terror that comes with the realization, that, after it attacked you... it _disappeared_ *before you could get a fix on it.*

There's nothing scarier than 240p.

So... carry peepers alive. Like 10. It will eat one instead of you. But it will swing back around. Use those 10 to survive and swim away... slowly its attracted to noise like breathing(oxygen bubbles) or powered vehicles like seamoth or sea glide... or a cyclops on the run without decoys. Just fire a decoy drop a few dozen feet and shutdown the cyclops.

I really love the ai programming for the Reapers. They intentionally try to come from outside your PoV for dramatic effect. They are very aware of where you are.

Yes, swim up and away from the protection of the narrow-passageways of the mushrooms. The reapers really appreciate that.

In the super early access days of below zero when they still had sea emperors in the lily pad biome I was cruising through on a seaglide, and you know how there are those giant, building sized clusters of roots tangled together at the bottom? Well I was looking around, and all of the sudden one of the piles pulls away and disappears into the fog, it wasn't roots, it was giant tentacles. That was hands down one of the most dread inducing moments I've had in either game, and it wasn't even from a hostile mob, it was so prefect it almost felt scripted

This is why I dunno that I could play in VR. I'd probably scream in a very undignified manner and never live it down.

i actually had the same scare too there haha, luckily I was in my prawn suit so didn't get much damage and i managed to trap him in between some mushroom trees and did the ol' stasis rifle + thermoblade technique. My very first reaper kill but I got quite the scare from it!

Nah. Sea dragon clipping through the ground shooting fire is way more horrifying.
