Stock diffs are good for drifting...for track racing using rubber tires well tuned diffs help handing big time..i actually just got this blue car..diffs are very tight i need to take appart and maybe do some smoothing out than add a lot of grease....thanks for sharing
I did that with a junked commercial clutch-head "week-whacker", in 1978. It pushed my 21 foot cabin cruiser around Long Beach harbor (until Port Authority got "on" to me about the noise, that is! I had an Open-Pipe exhaust I'd made, and it was LOUD...!). Haha! The reason I went with a clutch-headed engine, was so I could get it started and warmed up without the prop moving my boat. Sold it (with the original Quiet exhaust) to a guy that mounted it on a canoe, and he said it pushed it over 5 mph...! Only thing I had was time and a $15 dollar prop I had to buy. (Yes, I did have an engine in the cabin cruiser, about 350 H.P., and went to Catalina Island every week for years!). Lol,,,

Very cool! What type of carpet did you use? I'm considering doing the same, also possibly painting the track itself with something thick like house paint to see it it helps reducing the friction on the tires.

i'm curious if it can be upgraded to rwd, i'm considering buying it instead of the k989 but am afraid it can't or have difficulty upgrading to rwd because the differential has smaller bearings than the k989. Can you try to upgrade and share with me?

Does anyone race these cars in actual races or these just considered garage-toys. I bought one and really like it. Did the diff-fixes and runs great. Will not spend the crazy prices for Mini-Z cars...that's rediculous what they cost. Making my own dir/clay-oval track for mine.
yah i believe some people do race them in the 1/28 class or 1/24 scale class, i dont think its very common but i could be wrong, i guess you just gotta look really hard to find a club or group of people into it thats close to where you live. mini z is very expensive but they are realy so much fun. thats awesome you are making a track though, are you going to post videos of the track? also thanks for watching i appreciate it :)

No deeper would not help. It's the speed of the motor to the speed of the prop. Hp/torque of a 2 stroke vs the power needed for the efficiency of the prop/engine combination.

is it always locked or can it work as a diff too?
i have it setup so that its always locked but you can adjust the nut on the diffs to make it more like a lsd or an open diff, you just have to tighten or loosen the nut on the diff to set it the way you want it

nice video! i ordered the aluminum wishbone set from ali but it was rubbish, all the ball joints were unsmooth causing the suspension to not work at all. Also some of the aluminum arms are longer than the original plastic ones causing the wheels to be not evenly parallel to eachother. Good to see that there are good sets available online.
same prob with my 144010,the axles from the alu parts where too thin,so all was wobbling.i spent 4 days to make them better,building new axles from 2mm hss drill,glued the bearings in and so on.But now it running so much nicer,- and super quiet on the road.But i believe,for this small Cars it is an challenge,if the parts are not perfect.Maybe free up the ball joints with polish liquid and turn them with a dremel?

yah i got a couple different sets and this seemed to be the best one, there are a few things about it that are not ideal but it works, some of the parts are going to be replaced though at some point to further fine tune everything, thanks for watching i appreciate it :)

@@Matthewhobeez something going on with my front end....It's weird. turns fine, but one is spinning off then other so i drift one way super wide if not straight Then other side is normal. ugh.
its because one side will turn more freely than the other when friction is applied to the wheels, i had the same issue, the best fix is to get a ball diff for the front or to lock the front diff completely, hope that helps
@@Matthewhobeez Ok, I think i will do the Lock diff in the Front also. One thing i did notice is it is Way more responsive with the back locked. I'll order some metal ones soon also. No matter what it is FUN.

Nice score, Matthew. These 1/28 scale models from WLToys are quite well designed and good value for money. Since you have drift wheels for this model, have you tried sliding it on carpet, it is almost scale like rally driving with the 4WD system if you have commercial grade carpet that is hardwearing short pile. The traction is between rubber tyres on polished concrete, and drift wheels on concrete. Bit more skidpan/gymkhana style driving than drifting.

Hey there dude. I bought another wltoys Xd. I found something interesting. It seems that the wltoys 284161 my model and variation has a throttle adjuster or so i think which is why whenever i turn my RC, i usually end up losing 20% to 30% of power from the motor. My new 284010 has none of this issues. Kind of dissapointed that i have to buy another one to see if there is a problem. I might return this 284161 and see if it is trully a feature of maybe a true problem. Sucks that i already invested a lot onto this specific model. I also noticed that the motherboard of the two cars, though are the same my 284161 has a blue board compared to the 284010 which is green. They are the same layout but the difference is the ending digits of my 284161 is AZ 1117D -5.0E1 111JG1 or 111JC1 ( cant read it well cause it is too small) Az 1117D 5.0E1 216M91. Could be be different parts or could be a defect, i am unsure what to call it but it kind of feels like i have been rob sometimes knowing it is limited due to an error or a design choice
thats interesting, yah man sometimes it just is what it is n you gotta make the best of it, whatever problem you face though you will be able to overcome it, just remember its all about having fun. I would just return the one your having issue with or just repurpose it, maybe use it to experiment with. anyways i hope everything works out for you and i really appreciate you watching my videos :)
Grease moves out of the way. The Lucas Additive sticks to the gears. Thats what its designed for..

Lucas Engine Oil additive. Its amazing!!
Are you referring to the Lucas engine oil stabilizer?
It's OK to use lubricant. I use Super White Lithium Grease. I also grease the wheel hub, inside the bearings. If the Diffs are out of alignment, and you go from forward to reverse rapidly, you can strip the diff and blow the gear out of alignment within the housing. I have an upgraded ESC with reverse and brake. The braking action I think is what cause it to strip.

Thanks for watching :) and i saw your message yesterday so i played with my car a bit today trying to see if it has the same issue as yours and as far as i can tell it does not, the power seems pretty steady wherever i am on the throttle going in a straight line or while turning so your issue could be the esc/reciever combo or there could be gears binding or something else creating extra friction when you get on the throttle. im not realy sure what is the actual cause of the issue, i hope you get it figured out though.

Awesome video dude! Lock diffs are great. Would love to see more of this car. I too have a Wltoys. I have a 284161 . It is an awesome car. I only found one issue with it and it is when I turn the wheel with the steering when I put the throttle to full. I can hear the motor lose some power about 19 to even 20% or more depending on the throttle trim I put kn. Even when I disconnect the Servo for the steering, when I turn the steering, it loses some power. Do you experience the same? My guess is it's the 3 in one ESC trying to distribute power. I would to see you test it out on this 284010 if it is also affected with the same issue
