your house is really pretty
Hmm this comment was made before the video: is it alright to go into a job field because it looks fun to do and not because of passion or anything like that 😅.....
Thank you for procrastinating! lol This video was insightful and interesting to watch :)
What university did you go to?
Honestly, thank you so much for this video. Its absolutely wonderful hearing such diverse talk about going into marine biology from people currently (or was once, seeing as this video now 3 years old) experiencing this, due to most of the other videos I've seen have been talking about the 'dangers' of going into the field (like the cons, all of which is good information to carry with you when going into a field, I'm not denying that fact lmao), it was really nice to see a video talking up this career path for a change when I was beginning to worry if I really would be able to stick with it <3
I’m so glad to hear! There’s definitely pros and cons to Marine Biology but I think it’s important to know that it’s information and a curiosity you’ll have for a lifetime, so stick with it even after university! Even 5 or 10 years down the track you can still be involved in research and protecting the marine environment 💙
What college did you go to
What’s your career in marine biology what do you work as?
your worth million [subscriber]..............
is it possible to be a [wild life film maker] by studying marine biology
Yes of course! It’s not essential but in the long term it would be really valuable
this was really good! Could you give any suggestions for some unis for Masters in marine biology in Australia?
James Cook University in Townsville has a great marine biology program, however I studied at Flinders university in Adelaide which has a great honours/ masters program. But there are lots of great Universities in Australia. Tasmania and Western Australia could also be great options depending on the topic you would be interested in researching!
@@Melkymann bro I'm interested in Marine mammals. So I'm planning to join in James Cook University. Is that ok?
@@harishankar4076 Yeah bro James Cook University is so good!
@@Melkymann what are the subjects to prepare (to focus more) before taking msc. Marine biology
@@harishankar4076 I would say a background in chemistry and maths is super helpful!! (but not essential)
But are u working as a marine biologist?
Well no not at the current moment, because I’m back in lockdown thanks to covid. But I’ll be back soon!
You can see how he really love it thanks man
Iam in my first year marine science..can you tell me please what’s the deferent between marine biology and marine science..thank you
Hey Ayman! Marine biology is just a subcategory of marine science. So marine science also includes a whole list of topics like ecology, climatology, geology etc. Whereas marine biology just focuses mostly on the living organisms in the ocean.
@@Melkymann thanks for the info 😃
This is awesome . Thanks so much yo
hi! i'm a marine bio undergrad and spent the my 2nd year online. i'm looking for universities outside our country bc it looks like we're taking next school year online again. do you think the courses i took will be credited in your uni?
U should collab with youtubers
Nove video
Yo
yeah... thats my dream for sure
I’m considering going to school and getting a masters in marine science, do you know good job titles with this degree that would have a lot to do in the field instead of behind a computer all day?
Such an awesome video!!!
Hey! Maybe this is asking too much but I’m taking a gap year before I study zoology, and I was wondering if you know of any volunteer opportunities? (preferably in marine biology, but I’ll be interested in any) I’ve looked at them online but it all feels a lot like “voluntourism”, I want to ACTUALLY make a difference. Thank you ! :)
Hey! Where are you thinking of taking the gap year? Definitely a lot of them out there are voluntourism.. but there’s some good stuff out there! :)
@@Melkymann I’m not sure yet! I’m definitely going to have to work for a couple months (while staying in my house in England) just so I have the money to be able to travel and possibly do volunteering if I can find some! :) I have family in Puerto Rico and Brazil so that’s a possibility, but I LOVE the idea of Australia, it seems so beautiful (though I’ve never been).
@@anniemcmahon6778 there’s definitely some cool opportunities on that side of the globe! I have a few friends who have studied and lived in Brazil, and Costa Rica which always seem to have turtle conservations and other marine volunteering and internships. I’m sure Puerto Rico would have similar opportunities! As for Australia, there’s heaps of islands near the east coast of queensland which are always looking for people to work there, usually on their gap years. Also on the west coast, in Exmouth (near Ningaloo reef) there’s opportunities all the time to work with dolphins, whale sharks, and other marine opportunities. If you’re able to get your expenses paid while you volunteer as well (which lots of remote places offer) that would mean less time saving up while in England, and more time on the water :) Also, planning a video on this topic soon! So stay tuned..
@@Melkymann thank you so much! I’ll be looking into that, and I’m hyped for that video haha :)
This is such a cool video! I'm really glad this came up in my recommendations, I loved hearing your perspective and appreciate the message about doing your best to help. I'm also trying to study marine biology despite being raised in the desert; I just applied to colleges here in the US and plan to start next year. I'm super excited to begin since research and conservation/ecology are huge passions of mine (and I really want to get a PhD to pursue this)!
Thanks so much for the comment Emily! Good luck for next year starting college, and stick with it! Research really is so much fun, you’ll love it :)
Do you know anyone doing a marine biology PhD and can you invite them to your show to share what it's like at the PhD level? I already have a wildlife biology undergrad degree and environmental education masters. :) well done teaching kids :) I'm happy for you using your knowledge to teach them too :) I know you've made a difference. :)
Yeah I know a few!! I’ll see what I can do! Stay tuned, and thanks for the comment :)
I m doing my year 3 now. Never ever regret doing this . Best decision of my life !
Yessss!
Heyy buddy can give me some carrier guidance I am in 11 th now plzzzz tell me
Can u tell me how to be a marine biologist. When I enter to the high school
@@dvlogz3666 Tbh it is very straightforward in my case, I enrolled into one of the foundation program and progressed into my bachelor's degree straight after my O levels (btw i am from Malaysia, O level is equivalent 11th grade )
@@sohamvedak2523 I am not good enough for giving out advice, but i have learned two important things in terms of further study. 1st know what u want before enrol into any course (can u imagine questioning yourself why u choose the wrong major after 3 years of uni :') ). 2nd always search up the course outline before enrolment, subjects offered are depending on the university it self and will greatly influence the field of knowledge and skillset u own in the future.
What did you study in college?
I studied a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Marine Biology in Australia :)
@James Melky , hey so I really don't know like, I'm not gonna lie, I hate science I'm not great at maths and I don't know exactly what I wanna do when I'm older, except that I love the sea, snorkeling is the place where I've always felt most at home or happy, but obviously im not a scientist have you got any suggestions for careers in which I get to work closely with the animals?
Maybe you should start reading up about marine biology- science magazines and things like that- you might find an interest ? And if you do then you could study marine biology and be a field biologist? You could dive and collect samples in the sea !!
Hi! I am looking into going into marine biology but I am rubbish at maths and all sorts. Of course, I am still willing to put in work but I want to do dive and lab work, is there a specific career or specialty for this? Because I learn a lot better hands-on. Thank you!
If you like diving some ideas could be a scuba instructor or even an underwater photographer! And for lab work you can always volunteer your time on boats and in the lab to get some experience to see if you would like it!
It's been a whole ass minute
Mitch Drescher the clock is broken
so i dont know what to chose between marine biology and being a docter but i like to travel around the would what would you advise i do
Hmmm.. tough choice, we need lots of both in our world! And as for travel, both doctors and marine biologists can be anywhere in the world, so do whichever makes you happy!
be a doctor on a ship that teaches marine biology like Semester At Sea or join Doctors Without Borders
I was/am in the same boat as you (no pun intended). I was planning to become a neurologist and now am looking at Ichthyology or marine biology. I'm just going to explain why I decided that a medical career may not be right for me, and maybe it'll help you. 1. Travel, travel, travel. Many medical fields have opportunities for travel but can also lead to no true "home base" and travelling is not always an easy option for all medical positions. Secondly on that note, I live in the US but would prefer not to stay in the US. I found that the cost of medical school would be impossible to pay off in most European countries and didn't want to hinder my travelling abilities housing and me time wise. 2. I personally struggle heavily with my anxiety and stress levels but have learned to cope over the years (especially after therapy), but found that most medical scenarios would really damage my mental well being and especially with my issues of existentialism, hospitals may not be a great place for me. 3. The fun of it. Imagine literally being paid to spend time with animals and find new things in the world of science, it sounds like so much fun. 4. Personal interest. I just found that marine sciences seemed a lot more fun to read and look in to and would give me opportunities to truly look closer at something I am interested in. Even though I have strong feelings about mental health and illnesses, I also truly care about the entire world of science and for me, it just came down to looking at the life I wanted and what the long term affects would lead to a happier and more fulfilling life for myself. I hope this helps a bit :)
@@4-1-19 we're probably twins, 'cause i'm actually in engineer's study i will probably drop out my study, to study biology, and more specificly marine biology for all the reasons you talked about. Ps : i apologie in advance for my english, i'm French

Hey big question what can I do for volunteering I don’t live by an ocean or anything! But I really wanna start now in away I can help. I’m only 16 but I wanna try my best to get started a soon as I can. Also do you have any good college I could maybe look at I’m from USA and I don’t know where to really look at.
Hey Christian! Great question! I grew up in the desert in Australia so I know how you feel. The best way to look out for the ocean while you’re far away is to minimise your waste (plastics, food, and natural resources), plant some trees, recycle, make a veggie garden at home, and find a way to help out in your own natural environment if there is a local action group or council! It doesn’t matter how far away we are from the ocean, doing our part to help our own natural environment helps the ocean out as well, and makes us all better eco friendly citizens! But keep researching the ocean and questioning why things are the way they are! One day you’ll be in the ocean and you can join the rest of us trying our best to help! I hope that helped!!
James Melky yes it did help very much! Do you have any ideas on where I should start for question things about the ocean?
awesome video. thank you dude <3
No worries!! thanks man <3
How are you good
Im good bro, i hope you are well!

hello ! I would like to attend a marine biology Phd , I think it's a wonderful wordl, but for this I have to move from my country (Italy), because we have few opportunities here. your video encouraged me !
Grazie! You could always study Marine Biology in Italy and travel around the world for projects! Lots of Marine biology is in the laboratory and research!
Hey james do you remember me from italy the party that we had
beniamino singh yes of course I remember!
Gabriella is soo cuuuute
Hey I am Beniamino that one was speaking inglish with you to the party of sunday
Beniamino Singh thanks Beniamino!! I’ll make a new video soon!
How are you liking it so far? Debating if I should get this configuration or the same configuration but with mid core i7 cpu
Tony Do to be honest, I’m loving it so far! The i9 comes in handy for all the video work but depending on what you’re using the computer for mostly! It’s super quick, especially start up 🙏🏽 thanks for the comment!
James Melky primarily will be used for video editing/photography/graphic design amongst casual laptop usage. Does the laptop itself get crazy hot? And if you could go back would you keep the i9 or go with i7?
Tony Do it hasn’t heated up at all for me really. If you’re doing all that I would invest in the i9. I’d do it all the same if I were to go back again!
James Melky cheers! Thanks man.

FUN FACT NUMBER 3 ABOUT ANZAC HILL: The first time Michael took me there he told me a very long and serious story about how a group of people got up every single day at the crack of dawn to bake Anzac cookies fresh to sell up there and how it was really important to support them and that they were like an old Alice legend and that I was lucky to be catching them on a day that they were there so I got all excited and got all of my coins together to give to these beautiful people only to find out that it was a big ol' Michael Little lie!!!
ps. so cool seeing you vlog man, can't wait to follow you around on your adventures :)
