Scottish National Trail
Просмотров 7 тыс.3 года назад
In 2019 Karma and Veggie hiked the 528 mile long Scottish National Trail (SNT) in its entirety. Their friend Crosby joined them for the first half of the adventure completing his own thru-hike in the process. Thank you for watching our story of this one of a kind adventure. For more information on hiking the SNT go to: www.walkhighlands.co.uk/scottish-national-trail.shtml or drop a comment below.

In 2015 I decided to go on my 2nd thru-hike. A 3100 mile, cross country hike along the Continental Divide Trail. This is my journey. It wasn’t about the miles or a speed record. it wasn’t about anything to do with fame. it was about living. it was about time. about not being controlled by that said time or really paying any attention to it whatsoever. Never knowing the day of the week or the ho...

    Beautiful video, great hike. But with so much water and snow, I fear you missed out on drinking cowshit water, an essential part of the AZT experience.

      hahaha you're right! That year at that time, we could skip the cowshit water for other sources for the most part. We have had the experience elsewhere though! Thanks for watching!

    Really love the video. Well done in so many respects! I am planning on the AZT this winter and am curious what your thoughts are of beginning prior to your start date? I was shooting for Feb 1. Any feedback would be appreciated. Have through hiking experience on the PCT and I am from New England, so snow is welcomed. Thanks in advance!

      The AZT is a fickle friend. It really depends on the year. I wish it was easy to just say "yes" or "no." If snow is welcomed, in the beginning of February you will most likely get it on the passes and possibly lower. The first pass (within the first 10mi if going NOBO) is over 9,000ft. It holds the snow up top (even in dry years). You'll probably also see it after Pine going NOBO. But, it really depends on the year. Also, when it snows in AZ, it covers the cacti, taking postholing to the next level. Veggie accidentally hit one with her foot under the snow and had to pick it out of her foot. There are positives as well. Almost every water source has adequate water. With that said, some of the creek crossings can be pretty swollen and fording them is freezing. Remember, cross them in the morning if they're super high when you get to them in the afternoon. I don't know your hiking level so I won't say what you should do, just be careful, listen to your instincts, and have fun. Thanks for watching!

      @@adventurouskarma Thanks so much for the help! The hidden cacti is something I have never even considered. Great bit of beta! My main concern was water. Sounds like there should be enough! Much appreciated!

    I enjoyed the video! Were you hiking in sandals in the snow? That seems pretty cold.

    • @adventurouskarma
      @adventurouskarma 4 года назад

      Yes, we wore sandals for the whole trail, including through the snow. It was cold, for sure. When we encountered snow, we wrapped our wool socked feet in ziplock bags. This prevented snow from sticking to the wool socks and kept our feet warmer, albeit wet. The key, we found was to thoroughly dry our feet out each night and always had a dry pair of socks for our sleeping bags. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Ed, and thank you for your question.

      Thank you, Doug. We started going North on Feb 17th and we finished on April 2nd. That is considered the early season for the AZT and this particular year had a long winter. Most people start the first week of March.
