Join me as I give a quick update on my upcoming plans, starting with of course an apology as to my recent absence on here, but as I walk and talk my way around Holford Combe again, I am given quite a morning with the deer and following them up through the woods, quite out of my comfort zone but what a beaut of a morning.

Is this the BEST DEER encounter I have had? 200mm can tell more of a story than being in at 600mm

The plan, well it was to sleep out in the van near Alderman's barrow on Exmoor, I wanted to wake with the deer, if I could be there with no e line noises at the crack of dawn, I would stand the best chance. So reality hit and I had the most amazing unreal and privileged experience of my entire life, honestly just go watch this. absolutely mind blown. I also learnt a lot about the 600mm lens, an...

A good ole sunset and chat about MENTAL HEALTH

Join me as I walk to staple plain, not a big walk by all accounts but a walk none the less and that's why it lead to me to talk about mental health, and why getting out is so important to me. A slight interruption for some deer photography as well from a city of all places, but lets start with a stunning sunset over the quantocks looking toward exmoor national park.

Happy new year all, I hope you have all had a good start to 2024, its been a cold start but I thought I would get off to a flying start with a day at the fence of RAF Lakenheath, a challenging day with settings because it was grey and dark, around half one we lost all light due to some misty rain coming through, but none the less a good day and plenty of action. Great informative video. I've always wanted to do this, only got my Samsung phone for pictures 😂 we will see how it fairs 😂
@@Joker-ir7uc thankyou bud. Doesn’t matter if you have a phone or camera or nothing. The experience far outweighs any equipment trust me. Enjoy
@@peter16fleckenphotography I'll definitely do soon, looking to buy a car roof tent first. ⛺️ 😉
That's for sharing I love seeing footage from lakenheath ❤. The black and white shot at 7.00 was fantastic
@@cath851 thank you 🤩
Had a week up there a week ago Pete. Being nearly 70 with a knackered back and knees I'm afraid I can't get up in the hills like you! I have the scanner, subscribe to RRUK but although I've heard of squawk codes I was intreged by how they could help in early warning for low flying in the loop. Any hints on what I might need to know ref Squawk codes that could help an old croc out?😀
@@fotograffic8096 check the web for squawk codes my friend. There’s way to many to remember 😂
Yeah, I understand that much Pete, I just don't understand how to use them relating to low flying.
@@fotograffic8096 www.flightradar24.com/blog/what-are-squawk-codes/# Check this out
Cheers Pete!
Great video Pete. I believe any photography that you enjoy, embrace it. I enjoy many genres and personally feel that switching between them can not only help with skills but also keeps things fresh and enjoyable. 👍 great pics mate 👏
@@IanBarrowPhotography thanks ian.
Cracking shots there Peter. I'd class myself as a landscape photographer, but also like other forms when able, such as cityscapes / street / macro. There is always something new to learn and all practice in whatever form of photography will help with the landscape. Also, good to do something else for a change to keep the interest alive.
@@DevonRich697 totally agree Rich learning new techniques for other genres, I suppose in a way you could apply that learning to your favourite and mess about with different things. So I think the correct answer here is indeed do what you love, if that’s a lot of different styles then cool.
Nice one Peter 👌 I go up and down cadair road 2/3 times a week. Driving a truck tanker whatching u guys up there Stunning place and stunning pictures by u guys👌👌 Keep em coming ❤️🏴🚚🥛💨
@@garethgeorge580 I read that as “I go up cadair 2/3 times a week…I thought you meant the mountain 😂😂…Jesus I thought he’s nuts! Once was enough for me!!!! As long as those jets are flying they’ll always be photography from there. Best place ever.
Great vlog as usual mate! Nice to catch your first Typhoons and a Qatari Hawk! I enjoy landscape photography and street photography as occasional departures from my aviation stuff. It never hurts to practice other forms of photography no matter what you describe yourself as 🤙
@@Anthony_Fogarty_Aviation ye it’s weird isn’t it! What type of photographer you are! I think you should always try other genres as well learn loads of other tricks and ways of getting results.
Thanks for the mention Peter, was great to meet you, had a great day up the hill and will be back again sometime soon. take care
@@davydiver2009 awesome meeting you mate. I’m sure we will meet again. Enjoyed a really good peaceful day with you bud
Enjoyed you video 👌 you were camped just up the road from me ☺ the two most common settings used through my experience are shutter priority and auto ISO
@@ElwynR thanks bud. It was a good couple of days, I need to use auto iso sometime I think……I just don’t trust it
Did the NC500 last year, your in for a treat. Only downside we had was Applecross pass was a whiteout with fog, could only see about 10 feet in front. Even though thoroughly enjoyed it. Follow the NC500 signs and don't miss the "Nasty Wee Road"
Nasty wee road???? Sounds ominous
Love that shot of the deer at 3:12. Great video,. Life gets in the way of my photography too :)
Sure does sometimes, always got to try and make some time for what you enjoy though. However after a short break I always find how much I’ve missed it and enjoy being out. Thanks for the kind comments Rich.
Lovely Photo's once again . Thanks.
Thanks Pete. Hope you are well
Wonderful images, secretly wanting summer over so you can head north. Looking forward to that set of videos. great video again.

Thankyou bud. Those meals ain’t half bad to be fair.

Great video Peter. I've been thinking about getting out for a wild camp myself, possibly up on Exmoor.
It’s quite an experience mate. Honestly I can only recommend it. I’m planning another already.
Hi Peter - great meeting you on Yes Tor - you get a shout out in my video of my wild camp :-) ruclips.net/video/-hsAW4HBhhM/видео.html
Great video love the deer photos, I had a collision with a deer this week despite very cautious driving , unfortunately the deer died 😢 and I have a £3,500 repair bill!
Oh noooooo sorry to hear that Jayne xx no damage to you I hope 🤞
Thanks Peter I am ok, just feel dreadful for the poor deer.
Fantastic Peter so happy for you and thanks for the photo's.

Great to see you back on Exmoor ,enjoying the red deer ,it is my happy place Exmoor watching the red deer .Great stuff
Thanks Gary, honestly still haven’t got over it yet. Just absolutely gobsmacked from that morning.
Meldon, painful memories, broke 5 ribs there 3 months ago! Beautiful place and I’d love to go back soon, partly terrified of Dartmoor as I broke 3 more a couple of weeks ago on Rippon Tor! Love your videos 💚
Thank you so much, but I need to ask, how you broke the ribs
@@peter16fleckenphotography at meldon, horrible wet day and just tripped and went flying onto granite! With camera bag on was painful lol, at Rippon Tor it was muddy slipped again and fell onto my tripod head. Heading out again Friday (hopefully)….what could possibly go wrong!

Thanks, I expect one day I’ll bump into you as I’m based in Somerset…..I’ll be dressed in bubble wrap!
Looks a brilliant place! Love the photos under the Viaduct. Have you ever been to the Elan valley with its Dams?
Hi Ian, I have been to the elan valley yes, but as a very new photographer, so probably nearly 4 years ago. it would make sense to return, it's a beautiful spot.
Looks llike a great place to visit. I've driven passed the viaduct a few times and certainly looks like a place to visit with the camera.
Rich honestly, one of the best places I’ve been to down here. Absolutely mind blowing.
As you mate I feel same about recent conditions and having to deal with what you have. Love the clapper bridge shots.
Can’t beat the outdoors for head clearing space ian. It’s my favourite place, apart from home!!!!
Nice vid Peter 👍👍
Thankyou 🙌
Lovely photos of the Lake District ❤❤
A for me 😊
Thank you 🙏
This is amazing! What focal length was used in capturing these great photos? Maybe I’m mistaken but I noticed you stopped shooting when they were closest to you. Was it because they were too close for the long lens to capture the jet’s full body in the frame? I’m planning to go there sometime this year. 😊
Thank you for the comments bud. Currently using the 200mm - 600mm from Sony. So yes if your panning has not gone brilliantly you will soon loose the target at 600mm in. The Mach loop is all about planning what shot you want. Chances are few so there is some nerves not to mess it up. It’s great fun but hard work and does require some good forethought into what you want to capture.
Hi Mate, great video and thanks, planning my first visit to RAF Lakenheath next week and spending a day at RAF Coningsby staying a hotel near Lakenheath then spending two days photography at Lakenheath and Mildenhall and visit RAF Marham on the way home. I never drop letter and always show respect, its good to remind people about etiquette when visiting airbases and airports of the dangers of their rubbish getting into an aircraft engines . TAKE YOUR LITTER HOME PLEASE SO THAT IT DOES NOT DANGER PILOTS LIVES. What would you say is good spots for photography at RAF Lakenheath please. Many thanks David
If you use a website called “thunder and lightnings” has all airbases and viewing areas on there.
And thank you for the kind comments bud, much appreciate.
Great video mate, glad you got the quick climbs and the etiquette tips are spot on!
Thanks mate, was a difficult day settings wise. But I shall return for more. Loads planned this year.
Happy New Year Peter. A great number one photo, me being more into wildlife. best wishes for your photography in 2024,
Thank you, and happy new year to you.
Happy New Year Peter ,great to see your photo of the year was of the red deer as that is my passion the red deer of exmoor .Regarding the stag with one horn it is more than likely he has only grown one horn as some younger stags do & they wouldn't start losing their horns until April at the earliest for that age of stag .PS some of us local to exmoor call them horns instead of antlers .
Thanks Gary, happy new year bud
Happy New Year, and great photos!

Love the Vlog, You really whet the appetite for visiting the area!

Thanks Shirley always good to hear from you, means a lot x
Nice video again great fotos and what settings can I ask how you got up to the top and where from there to come down into the coomb
Thanks Derrick, park in holford carpark and walk straight up the track. In theory you shouldn’t leave the carpark. The walk starts there in it.
Top vlog really enjoyed it ,also loved the fox & red deer photos
Thank you Gary means a lot. I was sat on an old dead tree branch for around tens mins with those deer, took them ages to spot/smell me. I was well hidden. Awesome and privileged to be in there company
Thanks Pete, sat in the telehandler in the concrete jungle of Hinkley and watching this took me to my favourite place. Fab shots mate.
I don’t do local enough! It’s actually pretty rude of me I think!
@@peter16fleckenphotographyI use it for convenience at times but local does have plenty to offer. I do enjoy vlogging on a day away though. Your recent Scotland vids have me desperate to get up there and a return to the lakes. 👍 we need to plan a road trip mate.

Nice video mate, love your delivery. Having spent some of my childhood years in " Spaxton " the Quantocks are a favourite haunt of mine when it comes to taking photos. I like the bag your using. Can I ask what make it is. Cheerz me deerz 😉
It’s a tarion from Amazon. Gotta say it’s a year and 9 months old now and it’s not missed a beat. Not a stitch loose or zip broken. It’s a great bit of kit.
Fantastic Peter. I have several of my photos printed into canvas or prints around the house. Also putting together photo books for trips or themes - one done, several more to do! Well worth doing.

I miss it badly! Still having withdrawal symptoms 😢
Another set of excellent photos Peter! It does make so much difference when this is time to concentrate on the photography without external extractions.

I’ve been to some of your locations but never in autumn so I’m seeing them afresh with your amazing photography. Hope the weather stays kind to you… if a little chilly! ❤️

Thank you Malcolm, I think I could happily spend a lifetime exploring up there
thanks. what a amazing video-work,see you soon-
Thank you 🤩
The weather is one thing you can’t control. Have walked up Cadair Idris when I was younger and fitter from sea level in Barmouth. Didn’t realise how far it was until we clocked it a 22 mile round trip(I really was fit in those days) now the walk up Cad West is enough. I always go up as far as the styall, cross over at that point and then go anywhere from there upwards to the ladder styall. Usually shoot prime 300mm on full frame and can’t get the C130’s or A400’s in the frame unless they are high. But for most you are looking down on the fast jets if they are positioned to get the land locked. Great coverage of the area and made useful time of a weather changing trip to Wales.
Thank you 🙏 Dave. It was an awesome trip that will be repeated very soon. And will last a long time in the memories
@@peter16fleckenphotography I’ve had a really good year in the loop, retiring early is a bonus. Seen numerous visitors f16, fa18,Rafale’s, Red Arrows, RAF Typhoons and just the one RAF 35b lightning ll and numerous f15 and f35’s. I’m quite happy to have seen RAF Hawks from Valley.
