Brava!!
Hi! Absolute beginner here, trying to get through Suzuki on my own. I’ve learned from another video here on RUclips, that this bow shake, for me, is caused by tension in by upper back/shoulders (deltoid muscle). In my first months, I’ve focused a lot on basics like posture, left hand setup, right hand bow hold/finger strength and Suzuki book 1. All of the focus on so many things caused a lot of tension. So I took a step back and just play open strings as warm up, with the whole bow, but to deliberately let the notes crunch near the frog. After a couple of weeks of “combatting” tension, I’m doing better now. I don’t know if that makes sense. I’ll try your tip of rotating the bow as well! Thank you!
Hi there! Thank you for sharing your journey-it absolutely makes sense, and you're on the right track by addressing tension early on. Posture, bow hold, and finger strength are such important foundations, but it's easy to feel overwhelmed when focusing on so many aspects at once. Taking a step back to work on open strings and deliberately exploring the sound near the frog is a fantastic way to build awareness and control while reducing tension. That kind of mindful practice will pay off in the long run! When you try the tip about rotating the bow, keep an eye on your wrist and fingers-they should feel relaxed and responsive, almost like springs absorbing the bow's weight. Remember to give yourself plenty of patience and breaks as you continue your practice. You're doing great! 😊 Feel free to share updates or ask more questions anytime-happy practicing! 🎻
Thank you for sharing these strategies!
Voice needs increasing volume
@@rahimrathore7542 Thanks for the observation! I will consider that for my next video!
I love string instruments ❤
thank you for this video. I don't perform - actually haven't practiced in a while - but in practice my bow would bounce - then I realized I was only using the weight of the bow to stroke the string. When I put a little pressure with the fingers of my bow hand (not too much or it could cause that awful scratchy sound) the bouncing stopped. Of course, the amount of pressure would also depend on the volume I wanted and other aspects that the music called for.
I'm happy the video was helpful!☺
It's wonderful that you noticed how adding just the right amount of finger pressure can stabilize the bow and prevent bouncing. You're absolutely right that balancing bow weight and finger pressure is key-and it’s all about finding that sweet spot where the bow connects with the string without forcing it. If you ever feel like picking up the violin again, don’t hesitate to reach out or share your progress. Good luck!🎻
❤

Thank you so much for the encouragement. My intention is to give masterclasses on difficult subjects of violin technique. Please let me know if you have any suggestions on advanced violin topics.
@@risingstringsacademyDo you have study the intonation before to decide to post this video?
@@LatchezarDimitrov You are correct about the intonation. I had my strings changed the day before and it was impossible to have my violin tuned all the time so I prioritized the subject of the video which is slow tempo instead of recording over and over again because of the intonation.
I like those exercises. not only will they be helpful for intonation and technique, but I think playing a simple scale with notes of different lengths will make the practice more interesting. thanks.
The intonation isn't correcte...
Me ha servido mucho tu explicación, tan sin vueltas y sencilla. Ahora la pondré en practica. En unos meses (o mas) te cuento como estoy...ja! No es asunto fácil el tener buen vibrato. Salusos! k.anton.Arg.
Thanks for the positive comment and please let me know how you are progressing with the vibrato!
@@risingstringsacademy Prometido! Gracias!
Is that a left-handed violin? or is your camera flipped?
Nice tutorial! I find it challenging enough, however, just to keep the bow between the bridge and fingerboard when I play the violin. BTW: When I play the violin with a violin mute, it gives the strings a softer, nonmetallic sound. Which is very noticeable with cheaper violins.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Try playing in front of a mirror or recording yourself to see where your tendencies are. My bow usually moves forward or to the left, so knowing that, I'm consciously pushing slightly to the right. Using a mute can distort the real sound of your violin. It's better to find one that you like!

when you were playing the faster Bach piece, (which sounded really good, by the way) I was counting in 3/4

My metronome was set to click on the second beat, so it sounds like it is in 4/4.
You really should have more subscribers. I really enjoyed your upload. I hope your channel grows quickly and you get the audience you deserve. Good stuff, Mark, from Australia.

that was another nice tip. I'll definitely try that. Moving the finger up and down faster and faster till you vibrato. Cool.
I'll try that. Thanks.
Thank you
I am lost without the notes put on the screen, I think it is good exercise I dont know the shift to what notes
Take any G-major scale you can find online, or if you have one on sheet music, and play the notes with one finger. Use your 1st finger. Then try using two fingers, your 1st and 2nd fingers. Let me know if that was helpful or if you need more information!
