I like those exercises. not only will they be helpful for intonation and technique, but I think playing a simple scale with notes of different lengths will make the practice more interesting. thanks.

Is that a left-handed violin? or is your camera flipped?

Nice tutorial! I find it challenging enough, however, just to keep the bow between the bridge and fingerboard when I play the violin. BTW: When I play the violin with a violin mute, it gives the strings a softer, nonmetallic sound. Which is very noticeable with cheaper violins.

Thank you for this. It has taken SUCH a long time for me to do any sort of 4th finger vibrato, and now, I am simply looking for consistency, which, I believe, your exercises will certainly work to help me obtain. I found that if I first started bracing the heel of my hand against the violin while vibrating with the 4th finger, it was easier to get "the feel" down of 4th finger, and then that made it easier to use it in other places. I would encourage people to try this if they are starting out!

I try to practice what you teach until a new video comes out but I kind of got caught up with the first & second in this series so now I feel like I have fallen behind since I only just watch the 3rd in the series. But you just keep doing what you do & I will eventually catch up, even if my banjo is feeling very neglected... 😏

Of all the weird & unnatural positions a violin forces you to adopt, vibrato is undoubtedly the most difficult to get used to. And after decades of watching people make it look like it is simple & natural, the hardest thing to get your head around is just how much you need to move your fingers! But I will persevere because I know it will be worth it. Thank you for all you do.

This is shaping up to be a very interesting & useful series of videos but it has reminded me the importance of being able to read the music as it is written & not just instinctively know where to go next.
