Beginner Tips:
Soft Landing: Start with 50% bow pressure on each string. When breaking a chord, release pressure as you transition to the top strings, then reapply pressure.
Two Different Characters - Slow and Fast: A quick transition creates energy, while holding them longer gives a mellow tone. Always release bow pressure when changing strings to avoid choking the sound.

    Hi! Absolute beginner here, trying to get through Suzuki on my own. I’ve learned from another video here on RUclips, that this bow shake, for me, is caused by tension in by upper back/shoulders (deltoid muscle). In my first months, I’ve focused a lot on basics like posture, left hand setup, right hand bow hold/finger strength and Suzuki book 1. All of the focus on so many things caused a lot of tension. So I took a step back and just play open strings as warm up, with the whole bow, but to deliberately let the notes crunch near the frog. After a couple of weeks of “combatting” tension, I’m doing better now. I don’t know if that makes sense. I’ll try your tip of rotating the bow as well! Thank you!

      @risingstringsacademy 6 дней назад

      Hi there! Thank you for sharing your journey-it absolutely makes sense, and you're on the right track by addressing tension early on. Posture, bow hold, and finger strength are such important foundations, but it's easy to feel overwhelmed when focusing on so many aspects at once. Taking a step back to work on open strings and deliberately exploring the sound near the frog is a fantastic way to build awareness and control while reducing tension. That kind of mindful practice will pay off in the long run! When you try the tip about rotating the bow, keep an eye on your wrist and fingers-they should feel relaxed and responsive, almost like springs absorbing the bow's weight. Remember to give yourself plenty of patience and breaks as you continue your practice. You're doing great! 😊 Feel free to share updates or ask more questions anytime-happy practicing! 🎻

    thank you for this video. I don't perform - actually haven't practiced in a while - but in practice my bow would bounce - then I realized I was only using the weight of the bow to stroke the string. When I put a little pressure with the fingers of my bow hand (not too much or it could cause that awful scratchy sound) the bouncing stopped. Of course, the amount of pressure would also depend on the volume I wanted and other aspects that the music called for.

    • @risingstringsacademy
      @risingstringsacademy 6 дней назад

      It's wonderful that you noticed how adding just the right amount of finger pressure can stabilize the bow and prevent bouncing. You're absolutely right that balancing bow weight and finger pressure is key-and it’s all about finding that sweet spot where the bow connects with the string without forcing it. If you ever feel like picking up the violin again, don’t hesitate to reach out or share your progress. Good luck!🎻

    Nice tutorial! I find it challenging enough, however, just to keep the bow between the bridge and fingerboard when I play the violin. BTW: When I play the violin with a violin mute, it gives the strings a softer, nonmetallic sound. Which is very noticeable with cheaper violins.

    • @risingstringsacademy
      @risingstringsacademy 8 месяцев назад

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Try playing in front of a mirror or recording yourself to see where your tendencies are. My bow usually moves forward or to the left, so knowing that, I'm consciously pushing slightly to the right. Using a mute can distort the real sound of your violin. It's better to find one that you like!
