How much does it cost?
you bet
Great advice to identify the color tones! That helped. Thanks!
Salt of the Earth, that Billy.
He's being to hard on himself, and in danger of falling down a big mad music and technique theory rabbit hole 🙏 for him.
Always mess with the tone knobs it’ll usually fix that issue you just stated and shown, been telling my friends this for a while lol
So great to hear François actually speaking for the first time. This man is a serious professional and he's an absolutely incredible musician.
Makes sense. Thank you.
I'mso glad I found this channel. Some very useful and helpful information for guitarists who want to improve their playing and understanding of the fretboard.🙂
dude sick
Dude...this lesson deserves ALOT more likes and comments!! All I've been looking for is someone who could give me some 2-5-1 training wheels. All the channels with 8 million views all seem to love to over conceptualize and offer stuff, that doesn't allow you to get a basic framework to build on. I have watched litterally thousands of videos.. From Beebop yes, to beebop no, and every Barry Harris, super scale in between...this is all I was hoping to find. A big thanks. I've started building some of the chromatic tricks already but it was still sounding forced, or just a little off the mark. That direction change is what I wasn't able to catch on my own. Now I feel like I got something to work with. As you can tell by handle I have a small guitar channel myself.... I will be giving you a shout out, if I build a lesson on what I learned today.. Thanks!!
I appreciate your teachings, sir! Thx for the backing trax 💫🎸
Billy is the Badest Ass!!! All the Way
You can easily distinguish my earlier home recordings from the later ones, because the mixes get better. I was learning as I went along.
When I Heard the Learn’d Astronomer By Walt Whitman When I heard the learn’d astronomer, When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me, When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them, When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured with much applause in the lecture-room, How soon unaccountable I became tired and sick, Till rising and gliding out I wander’d off by myself, In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time, Look’d up in perfect silence at the stars.
one word, pantera
Finally, a short where you could actually see your hands & fretboard! Except towards the end, when it’s underneath the words. I’ve seen too many shorts right where you can’t see the hands for the fretboard - Needless to say, they’re not worth my time watching.
Brilliant 💙 Thank you
It would be nice if we could actually see you strumming, so we would know what you were talking about. You are very successful in cutting that part of the video out.
I wish I knew theory like you bro. I’m learning though!!
Wendigoon playing the blues
It’s so blurry you can’t even see what you’re doing on the second style of strumming
I am Frank Ocean.
Doesn’t it make more friction on the upstroke?
This picking angle isnt necessarily correct for all styles. On acoustic an angled pick sounds mellower. Also picking with the pick flat on will limit speed if youre not using a very flexible pick, which will net you worse tone
When you wanna genuinely get gud, every detail matters. Marty and George know that.
I don't play guitar or any instrument but that was fascinating and very well illustrated 10/10 no notes
The backwards ...even though, it should technically be the same, it is still slicing "across" however that is very hard for me, it feels like going against the grain and I can't figure out why. Should be easy. Anyway, just a comment . Cool vid tho 🤘
Do i need a desktop computer to do this? I don't have one. Please let me know.
try a looper and certain effects pedals
According to this kid, he didn’t know anything (musically) so he was just great and super talented and now that he’s “learning cool music stuff” he might be even better… Unbelievably awesome!
I’m a fiddler. Got so much from this video. Thanks for putting it out there Billy. All I try for is to practice 15 minutes a day. Usually I find that I get really absorbed and 45 minutes just flew by. Gotta try some strategies like the metronome and recording myself.
Lots of great ideas! Bluegrass is the new rock & rol Trying to learn & there is lots to do in 2025
Such a cool explanation
This is so much easier on piano.
leave the 5 out
I love videos that get into this level of specificity when it comes to voicing. I must add - omitting the fifth is also extremely common (and often sounds more colourful)
Thank you so much!
God I wish I understood music theory or could even read tab. I’ve been playing for a pretty long time , since I was 5 or so and I’m 21 now. I can play some really cool stuff that sounds really good but I’m always missing when trying to make something unique or trying to put a twist on something I already know .
❤need some more I’m love to learn about playing any thing Gary Casson, Gary Cassette Player. I’m desperately always wanting to play music was afraid 😱 . GHC Dec 18th 2024 Palm Bay Florida
Dude is just Real!
I purchased Sonora almost 3 years ago. After a while life got in the way and I didn’t do anything with it for over two years. I recently got back into it. I am so amazed at how good and thorough and easily digestible this program is. Amazing! Thank you!
Thank you Andy tremendously! This is a extreme informative lesson launching me to new heights. You just broke my plateau I feel I have been stuck on for years.
Wonderful lesson! Thank you.
What a lovely. honest but most tellingly, incredible guitar player.
Man, I WISH I COULD ADVISE BILLY TO. ......CALL PAT SIMMONS !!! I realize there are so many others out there who might assist Billy , but for him to make that connection for the two to be aqainted .
I have turned a lot of friends on to BILLY STRINGS. We all love his playing and influence on younger players and audiences. It's cool that he is humble enough to seek some help or instruction at this height of his profession. Wouldn't it be cool if he connected with someone like Pat Simmons of the Doobie Brothers to learn slack key playing or for any other advise.
I think Billy Strings should experiment and or venture into learning SLACK KEYstyle playing. I believe it is similar to bluegrass but possibly has more of a western influence/ HAWAIIAN. Think of some of the early Doobie Brother's Pat Simmons writing and playing. Pat Simmons learned from Jorma Kohounan from Jefferson Airplane.
The thing that is lost here, is Billy is a prodigy. He has a monster ear, and works on a different level than most musicians. And, to boot, dude is humble. He’s a symbol of a bright future for music.
I’ve been wanting to learn Escabana, but I can’t pull out tabs by ear. Now that I saw him play it I can at least get that part from this vid. lol nice!
G*
