Same exact thing happened to me, I had A3 boarding and there were about 15 people ahead of me! I fly at least once a month for business, sometimes three times a month so getting to the front of the plane is important to me. I paid $70 to get near a the front of the plane and when I got in line I was told it was the one of the pre-boarders, who seemed perfectly healthy to me, so I was forced to wait while 15 people went ahead of me. And to make matters worse, one to the pre-boarders was saving the other two front row seats!!!!!! I have canceled my southwest credit card and I have told my company to never fly me on Southwest again. When I use up my remaining southwest points I will tell them that I have anxiety issues so I can pre-board. It is bullshit what they do, they need to ask for a written medical proof that you need to pre-board. And, while I am at it, I think it is odd that most of the pre-board scammers are non-English speakers!!!!!!!! It just adds an extra layer of anger for me.

I'm in a wheelchair- now you have people openly faking by using airport wheelchairs to cut the line AND POSTING TIKTOKS BRAGGING! This means people who need chairs can't get them and are blocking the jetway when I'm trying to breakdown my personal chair and getting pushed/ stepped on etc

Unfortunately we live in a society of opportunists. We know the scammers. But some businesses and people will not call them out for fear of legal action or for appearance of impropriety. Especially here in PR of California. Call it out when you can, but know there’ll be no consequence sometimes. Or, they’ll turn it on you… because they’re scammers.

There needs to be accountability here. These pretenders make everyone else suffer. Also, not all disabilities require pre boarding.

First off, I feel you and your gripe. I travel for work at least once a month and choose to fly on SWA 95% of the time, for work I always buy the top fare to get priority boarding. I like to board early as I always head to the exit row except in rare occurrences like next flight boards immediately after my first flight lands or if I am traveling with family. Most of the time the preboarders are a reasonable number but there are flights when it is excessive. In the past, I have counted 20+ preboarders on a plane that seats 157, it can get out of hand. In your case, this preboarding guy trying to sit in the exit row should have been stopped by a flight attendant. They usually have one flight attendant standing in the first exit row which is why the gate agent tells A1 to tell the front flight attendant they are the start of "general boarding". Then, that front attendant makes an announcement to call out the first person who starts general boarding. So, if you boarded as you are now they would say something like "General boarding starts with the tall man in the gray hat, glasses, and blue/grey sweatshirt." That way the exit row attendant knows exactly when people can start taking those seats that they are literally supposed to be guarding. Like the attendant said when you were exiting the plane, next time it happens since you are already mid-plane then go further back in the plane to let one of the rear flight attendants know and they will take care of it so you do not have to be the one confronting another passenger. The attendant might not have been paying attention or the general boarding announcement might not have called out you and the exit row attendant just let it lie, figuring all were acting correctly. Hard to say from your story and no excuse for them missing it. I get that all preboarders do not show a physical limitation or disability. That said, I sometimes travel with people with severe anxiety in my party. I travel a lot and got over my anxiety pretty quick. But, for those I travel with who do have severe flying anxiety, it is almost debilitating - which is hard for me to wrap my head around. They look perfectly fine and walk without a handicap, so I get the "why are they preboarding" questions. However, it does make a difference for them to get seated up front and be situated before the masses load. Until that point when they are settled in their seat, they are almost about to pass out from the anxiety. To your point, do some without a physical, anxiety, or other handicap game the system? Yes, of course. Hard to police PB gamers versus legit need, especially since some preboarding allowances are not all physical limitations. Overall, I think SWA does a good job navigating it.

DAL to Sarasota flight had 30 wheelchairs - I was A13 which i paid but ended up in back of plane - never fly them - its a mess

These are the reasons I stopped joining the cattle calls of Southwest Airlines years ago.... Flying is a treat even having to go through all of the security and paying a little more alleviates this type of nonsense to some degree and I have a seat reserved where I want....

Now Really Really Fat folks get a free extra seat to accommodate for the fat spillover and you can get bounced from your seat if it's a full flight. Thanks to some entitled obese activist.
