I think truthfully the braid and leader combos I use here are more towards light than true BFS. I have since lightened the braid down to a 0.06mm braid and a super light wire (or occasionally fluorocarbon) that I tend to use mostly for perch and chub. That said I've got access to some smaller streams and canals that really going too heavy when fishing for pike is overkill - I always use a strong leader and appropriate braid when pike fishing - and always a good idea to fish with wire when you're in an area that pike are common, even if fishing for perch - I've certainly caught some decent pike when I'm fishing for perch

@@guiu975 the Severn around the parts I fish is almost always muddy/brown. That said I think the state of our rivers in general needs to be addressed, such a shame.

@@michaelmurphy7241 yea, we call them jack pike. Whilst it describes young pike we use it pretty loosely to describe small pike generally. We don't get freshwater bass in the UK, but like will pretty much hit anything.

I think that goes generally for quite a lot really. It can be a bit of a challenge to sift through the rubbish, but there are some great things to be found if you put the time/effort in to find them. I've been really happy the the tsurinoya dragon, but the cheap £10 Sougayilang rod I use in this video is pretty awful.

learn the difference between made IN china and made BY china. What china produces is of poor quality and almost no standards whereas big companies that move manufacturing in china have high standards, trained personnel and their own factories.

I hope your hand has healed up. Shame I didn't see that fish you had, sounded like it put up a decent fight.

It was really fat and heavy, really not typical for the time of year.

The Severn is supposed to be fantastic for big Zander but I also have never caught Zander from it. I caught a relatively decent pike a week back on it but wasn't really filming! I am much more comfortable and familiar with the Avon, some great clubs on it but it depends where you're based for which is going to be the best for you, but as a general rule I would aim to find water that's slower flowing with less depth for some of the easier pike fishing. (Though that certainly doesn't mean you won't find great pike fishing in faster water) The Zander in this video came from a relatively shallow stretch (about 7ft max) that moves pretty quick, it was completely unexpected and not what I was aiming for at the time - a seriously welcomed catch

There's definitely some stuff on these stores that isn't great, but a surprising amount of stuff on there has been very good.

pike over 15, perch over 1.5 and Zander over 8 would be a solid achievement in a single session

with a lot of my lures, if I'm pike fishing, a straight simple retrieve is one of the most successful for me.

We went to this lake, and there were so many perch and pike, but if you ate the pike, you’d get fined 100,000 dollars.

@LG_Fishing I'm definitely missing out, but not for long. I see in videos that a patient pull rather than a sharp strike works better to hook up.

@@ryandoherty6174 so they say, if you're using a frog then I find bending the hooks up a bit can really help with hookups. It does remove a bit of the weedless capability though. And again on frogs, if they have skirt like legs don't be afraid to trim them up if fish are missing the bait when they hit

I'm certainly finding it's working fine. I'm using the lighter stuff I mention on this video on 3 rods now. it's held up for months after catching plenty of pike, perch and Zander.

I suspect I'll go down a route not too dissimilar. I'm aiming to lighten my braid and wire next and really try the dragon/dark wolf ultra combo heading down to the 1g mark. thanks for the sub.

Cheers mate, theres usually a lot of pike hanging in the margins here.

I definitely get most my hits on the 16cm, but the rivers and canal I tend to fish most are quite big. That said I'm really enjoying fishing with smaller baits at the moment on lighter kit, especially when it brings in more perch, something I've not caught a huge amount of on lures in the past.
