Here's a brief overview: Early incarnations (1829-1863): The story starts with a tent camp on Garden Island, followed by a temporary wooden building in what is now Stirling Gardens. The first permanent Government House was built in 1834/35 in the current Garde...

LOADED DICE: Rollin' Thunder Down Under in the '70s and '80s Ah, Loaded Dice. The very name conjures up images of smoky pubs, overflowing pints, and headbanging to Aussie rock that was pure, unadulterated pub gold. This Perth band wasn't about stadium anthems or radio polish; they were about sweat, swagger, and belting out tunes that made you wanna throw your hands in the air and sing along, ev...

My heart aches, my soul weeps, For dear Daniel, my clubbing mate. Our nights were filled with laughter, And beats that echoed through the air. But now you're gone, so far away, And I'm left with memories to hold. Of dance floors bright, and drinks to toast, Of Mardi Gras and friendships forged. Oh, how I miss your smile so bright, Your energy that filled the night. But though you're gone, your ...

Butlins skegness 1979 first time i see northern soul dancing. They was all dancing in the same manner, it was strange to me as a londoner. They are still dancing exactly the same ways to northern soul now and will be doing so in another hundred years time. the music and dance routines stand the test of time even the youngsters dance the same moves nowadays

had one in the 60s. The wheel to start the player had a curious function - it started the record rotating but the more you turned the wheel the faster the record played - i dont remember many songs on the records at normal speed - Little Brown Jug in particular, Oh dem golden slippers and Billy Boy!

@@mybestoldmusicvideo Yes, petrol was 25p a gallon, family loaf of bread was 30p, the skirt I'm wearing cost me £3 to make; no shops sold "northern soul" clothes, they were made to order. No alcohol was sold, no food, just soft drinks and dancing - alot of legal drugs of course used illegally, usually script stuff: 10 blueys for £1. You can see why Wigan was shut down, no commercial entities made any money from it

I love this song so much I wrote a novel about it - Palace Records. No sales links - but if you read it I hope you enjoy it. Keep the Faith. From the publisher: In the heart of the city, Izzy Cranshaw faces a crossroads. As the owner of Palace Records in Manchester, she's struggling to keep her beloved vinyl haven alive after the tumultuous past few years. With her team by her side and personal challenges weighing on her, Izzy's life takes an unexpected turn. Amidst family drama and financial worries, a proposal to buy Palace Records emerges, forcing Izzy to make a life-altering choice. In a desperate bid to save her shop, Izzy delves into the world of house clearances and car boot sales. There, she discovers the remarkable legacy of Alan Hunt, a music enthusiast whose story mirrors her own. She embarks on a search for a rare Northern Soul record but will she find the soundtrack to her life? As Izzy and her friends unravel Alan's mysterious past, they embark on a journey of self-discovery, love, and the enduring magic of music. Secrets are unveiled, truths confronted, and unexpected love blooms. Just when it seems all is lost, a hidden treasure offers hope. But Izzy's personal battles are far from over. She must mend her fractured relationships, facing revelations that could reshape her family dynamics forever. "Palace Records" is an uplifting story of resilience, music's transformative power, and the importance of embracing the truth. Discover a story of love, truth, Northern Soul and the enduring magic of vinyl records in this heart-warming novel.

Im 64 and have been big into all kinds of music all my life. I grew up listening to and watching all the Motown imports in the 60s/70s. The bit I had not heard of until recently however was the Northern bit, the dances etc. Nice to see its still going on. Living S of Watford Gap has its drawbacks...!

I met my husband at Wigan Casino what an amazing place it was the music was epic and what an atmosphere. This music took me back. Personally I prefer Tamla Motown but each to their own. They used to have live artist on also. We saw Jimmy Ruffin, Edwin Starr, The Elgins The Fantasics to name just a few. Great times no drugs very few drunks no knives very little swearing. 70s era and music brilliant, some of the rock was pretty good.

As a London lad, I was introduced to Northern Soul from blokes I met when I joined the Army. The clothing we wore was more or less the same - I had a CRACKING pair of grey two tone flares with a FIVE button waistband and THREE BELTS, spade toed shoes etc.. When I first saw Northern soul dancing done by some blokes at a ‘disco’ in Andover Hampshire, I was totally blown away. The lads who did it told me I should go up north with them on leave and see whole dance halls doing it. I did and I was hooked. I spent almost all of my money on records and clobber when I was on leave. Wish I could still do it all now (65 and not as nimble!) The excitement of going out was just incredible, and if
