    This is a ridiculous "argument" that is just defining entities into existence through word games and mental gymnastics.

    Great breakdown, however a worthwhile note is that the best allegory available - that of the painter requiring the image of their muse in order to create the representation of - necessitates a level of clarity over what exactly the thing in question is. "The greatest possible being" provides two assumptions within itself (greatest) and (being - the assumption any god is a being is an anthropomorphic projection of our own arrogance of understanding and natural ignorance on the inherit ineffability of god). First of all, "greatest" and other similar descriptors are pulling a lot of legwork for such a vague description of a "being". The nebulous image of god is the outline of a concept, not a complete and whole depiction of such a thing. If such a being is so "great" that it is ineffable, then by definition, there are qualities of which this being lacks. That being now lacks the ability to be understood and is impossible to depict, and ergo loses the ability to be the "greatest" of anything relative to our perception. So we are always working with an incomplete picture. - What is ineffable is entirely conceptual. There are many things in life we simply do not have the capability to understand at the moment, and so our epistemic reasoning is limited. But we have yet to encounter something other than the concept of "god", and similar ideas, of which we won't someday be able to come to a greater understand of. "god", and similar, ignore this and are fundamentally ineffable. This contradicts our ability to understand such a being clearly - ever. - A painter may not understand the way a mountain forms, nor how the weather and geology shape and construct such a natural monolith, yet the painter is able to depict the essence of the mountain with varying degrees of clarity. Always such that anyone may be able to look at the representation and call it a "mountain". This is not the same for such a supreme being. So in this way we are only able to project the facade of understanding the "idea" of the essence of god. This is unacceptable as a proof for such a supposed being.

    aside from the fact that the ontological argument is a parody of philosophy which claims things that are defined to be existent automatically exist, we find that, even if we play Anselm's game, existence is not necessarily a greatness.

  • @Semiotichazey
    @Semiotichazey Месяц назад

    Very well explained, although this has always struck me as a ridiculous argument for the following reasons: - Why is it "better" to exist in reality rather than "mere" understanding? - Isn't it absurd to suggest that a person could truly conceive of god if he really existed? Just to imagine the words "the greatest possible being" is not to imagine any of the properties of such a being. - The existence of a concept is not connected to the existence of the thing its conceives. Those are entirely distinct entities. Conflating the two is an artifact of Aristotelean philosophy whereby every object is contingent on the ideal concept of the object. Insisting on this relationship presumes a heap of sophistry, as evident by arguments like this.

      Moreover in my opinion one has to ask himself: conceived by whom? Human being now? Hypothetical alien hyper intelligent species who are going to exist somewhere only in 10000000 billions years from now, or by the most intelligent species over infinite years from now in the universe? No upper limit in this case. And such a God existing now knows that no species will ever exist with more imagination than that limit. And still they insist that god is granting us of free will??? That god doesn't know in advance if I'm going to behave good or bad???

I think I can grasp the basics of Plato's 'Theory of Forms', I think I understand the 'Cave' proposition from his 'Republic' and I am sure I grasp his 'Wax Tablet Hypothesis' and his "Justice being in the interest of the stronger" quote. But I admire great thinkers and their ideas and respect them, as they are and were, for being so far, far more intelligent than myself! Thank you so much for this video! I will look at your video again to try and grasp Plato's ideas as best as I can.

The true "philosophers stone" of the upper world of TRUE INSIGHT regarding our material reality is the MOON, and the sun is used by sorcerers to keep minds from seeing it.

    Theories, concepts, beliefs and interpretations about “what is” are just shadows. They are superimpositions to "what is". To consider these shadows as the truth is to live in the cave. These shadows are based on knowledge, which is always incomplete. One can have a lot of knowledge about, for example, a bird. With this knowledge, an idea is created, an image about what we call a “bird”. The image of the bird and the word “bird” do not fly and do not sing. The image I have of myself is not who or what I am. The image I have of the Universe is not the “thing” itself. Who am I? Can there be a complete answer to this question? What is life? What is consciousness? Now I am faced with the unknowable, that I am, that everything is, and there is also knowledge, which is necessary for daily life. I have images because they are necessary for daily living. I have an image of my wife, but it is very clear to me that the image is not what she is. She is alive. The image is a shadow. “What is” is unknowable from the point of view of the intellect. In relation to the intellect I am unknowable. But I am not unknowable in relation to who I really am. Outside the cave there are also shadows. Are they a problem for the one who is outside?

    From what I'm seeing: Be your best self. How do you do that? Use information and context clues around you to weed out what is and isn't immoral behavior and act accordingly.* *may be harder for some than others considering the cards you were dealt in the beginning of life. Is necessary for the good of humanity and longevity of the species. Cooperation on this "theory" is necessary and vital for the survival of said species or they wipe themselves out with self sabotaging behavior. Need a smaller microcosm example of this in society? Anyone with DID who doesn't follow this model eventually won't survive their own persecutors. They self destruct. Most DID patients attempt suicide.
