This is a wonderful old hymn that I have laid down guitar, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, and four part vocals. @billeberius9736
WOW! This is my favorite Buckskin Bill post to date! The edits at the end and the thunder were so baller!!!
Bill, Nice video. I have been looking for a braid to use on a belt. I just need a wrist cuff using a mexican round braid, but I wouldn't want to try that on something as long as a belt. I liked the way you hid the lacing holes in the border stamping. Have you tried to line a belt with the lacing?
Una pregunta, Dónde comprar la correa para hacer el tejido? Y, Lindo trabajo.
It looks REALLY good! Thanks! Will definitely try!
Mate i cant believe i found this.. ❤ Such a excellent, informative and easy to watch video..
Push the pricking iron before start punching in a wax- block & the pricking iron go‘s easy out of the leather!!
Ну зачем так ,зачеем? Такой крутой ремень получился и этими двумя кнопками просто всё испортил "эти кнопки та самая ложка дёгтя в бочке мёда "
Beautiful work. Thank you.
This is actually a pretty simple over and under design, commonly called a mexican basket weave (Hey, that's right outta the How To Lace book, okay?), and it's easier to do all four laces at the same time, though that may be a bit more advanced.
The lacing is the hardest part. Pull the lace around a pair of scissors - pulling hard - to straighten the lace. When you first pull the needle through the hole, stick it in the next hole the way its supposed to go so you don't have to worry about twists.
Awesome job Buckskin Bill!
Great job bill this was awsome to listen to. This would be fun to sing in a barbershop style… :)
Great work! I really enjoy the third vocal part - really subtle, but it adds so much.
love the mandolin
On this song, so do I!!!
Music is very distracting. Otherwise excellent video what I could watch. Couldn’t concentrate on how to do lace with music.
I like the belt , and I like the music. Subscribed. Cheers from the North of something.
Do u have a video on how to get to this point with your hide? I just harvested a deer and have the whole hide rolled up in a bag in the freezer.
I did not because of the blood involved in fleshing and de-hairing the hide I was worried that I might get hit by RUclips. However, if you look at my video of "making buckskin from deer hide" at the 1 minute and 30 second mark you will see the fleshing tool that I use and the motion I use on the hide. On the flesh side of the animal it doesn't matter which direction you go, you simply want to work toward the edge of the hide and remove all of the flesh and fat from the hide. When you work on the hair side it helps to work from the neck down in the direction the hair is laying. You will need to use a great deal of pressure and the first four or six passes may not seem to do any good. But once you get to the hide you will notice a separate membrane on top of the hide itself. You will want to remove this in the process of removing the hide. You can use more pressure on the hide but notice I am using the back of the fleshing tool and not the blade side. When you get closer to the edge of the hide use less pressure so you don't accidentally punch a hole in your hide. Believe me, I have punched a few holes around the edges, especially on smaller deer that have thinner hides. Some people put the hides in potash to change the PH levels to have the hair slip easier. I do my hides without doing that. If you do use potash you have to rinse the hide in fresh water and change the water a few times in order to bring the PH level back to normal. Check out this video as he shows the scraping process fairly well, but this video doesn't show the PH level change or the hair side. The scraping process is the same motion just be sure to go with the direction the hair is laying from neck to tail. ruclips.net/video/nEcJVruXj-s/видео.html If this isn't clear enough let me know and I will try to talk you through it. Good luck with your hide.
I said at one point in removing the hide, I meant removing the hair... but you probably figured that out.
@@billeberius9736 Thank you so much! I certainly appreciate all the info. If I have anymore questions I will definitely ask . Thanks again
here is a link to the fleshing tool that I use. I highly recommend the 12" tool as my cousin bought the 8" and it didn't work as well as the 12" that I have. www.wiebeknives.com/collections/fleshing-knives
Beautiful work. Ya don't see to many like that.
Wonderful job, Bill! Merry Christmas to you!
Great performance!
Wow , so a double diamond braid with exiting holes to match vs a side wrap around ... thanks, I never seen it in my head that way 😊
Hey man, Im wondering if these could be used to make belts? Thanks
Not likely. The deer hide is not nearly as thick as cow hide. For belts I generally use a 7-9 ounce cow leather. The neck and hind quarter areas are the thickest part of the deer hide. So I suppose you might get away with taking two strips of the deer hide and glue them together to make the hide double the thickness. When I made the label for my buckskin jacket, I did exactly that and was able to carve it with leather tools and put my name and a design in it. But this wasn't going to have the wear and tear that a belt would take so I'm not sure how that would work out. I actually thought about trying it at one time, but for my belt making, I have stuck to cow leather.
If you check out my video "Man of Constant Sorrow" I describe how I made the buckskin jacket and at the 2:26 mark in the video you can see the jack label that I made from deer leather. It is two pieces of deer hide glued together and then I used leather carving tools to make the label. I also used actual deer sinew to sew it on to the jacket. Again this is just for reference if you are interested.

I don't like the music
I couldn't watch for long since the music drowned out a lot of his instruction.
Thanks for the input... I will try to remedy that in the next video.
This is very cool! But this isnt buckskin - I guess Leather Bill isnt as catchy though...
Wow!!
Great video!!!!!
I never thought about how much work goes into making leather. I bet it feels incredible to work with the finished product after you put so much into it, though. Great video!
