Stabbing Motion: American Boy and Pulp Fiction
Просмотров 2373 года назад
American Boy: A Profile of Steven Prince is a interview-cum-documentary directed by Martin Scorsese where Steven Prince recounts his life as a drug addict. One of the stories he tells is of him injecting an overdosed girl with adrenaline, which Quentin Tarantino later incorporated into Pulp Fiction. Here is a cross-cut splicing of the two scenes I did last night.

Description of the Demo: Before I present a rundown of what I did, I need to briefly discuss some terms. Recording in vim refers to a sequence of key presses recorded into a register, see `:h recording`. Don't confuse it with macros (see `:h macro`), which refers to normal key mappings. Visual Block mode in vim is triggered by <C-V>. This is a very powerful feature which lets you visually selec...

"... It's unnerving for audiences too especially when it's Gena Rowlands in front of the camera. Gena Rowlands is unusual due to the films she did with her husband John Cassavetes, as well as her almost uncanny belief in the imaginative circumstances of any given part. One needs only to watch her deliver ":The 5 Points Monologue" in "A Woman Under the Influence" as her character descends into psychosis to see how much farther she goes into a role than most other actors do. It doesn't even appear to be acting, what she's doing. You actually worry about her in ways you simply don't with other actresses." - from the video essay "Watching Gena Rowlands" by Sheila O'Malley R.I.P. Virginia Cathryn "Gena" Rowlands

I kinda feel alex' whole anxiety and meltdowns stem from her condition of being a middle child, who is nearly invisible. And the only way she can showcase herself is through academics since she saw her older sister being a wild child, she doesn’t want to take the problem child route. She is neither the only daughter, neither the only son nor the youngest, so her fear of being forgotten as a mediocre child she pushes herself to excel studies so she can be by herself if her family members forget that she exists

I have to be honest. When I was a kid I was so under pressure that I dreamed about doing that once in a while I mean, I had to be perfect with perfect grades, perfect behavior and my parents were getting divorced and I had to work also to get money for school and sometimes I felt I had to let it go and I just could not. I totally get her so please stay focus in the way kids now days fell so under pressure to let them know it is going to be ok.

I don't about other people but ever since I was small, I wanted to win, to be special, to make my father proud. Now don't get me wrong, he NEVER asked me to. He is always happy about any little achievement and all he wanted for me was to have a secure future. But I wanted him not to worry about me. My classmates called me stupid for studying so hard to get good grades, they called me a nerd and laughed at me whenever I was motivated during class. For a long time, I arrogantly told myself that I would come out top, since I was putting the most effort to be "the best". And when I finished junior high and started abitur (senior high in Germany)... I just grew tired. I tried do motivate myself like I always did in junior high, but the nearer I came to my graduation, the more I realised that I had no plan for the future, that I didn't even know enough about how to continue life after school. It was the worst realisation I could come to, and then I realised that I put so much effort for nothing. Burned out, I apologized to my father because I thought that I disappointed him, that he now had to worry for his daughter who reached her 20s without a job or any prospect of her future. I'm so glad that my father always has my back and knows how hard I worked for the past years, just to make him proud. He is always proud of me 😭

Man isnt that relatable... A common phrase i get is "idm where you got this brain of yours"... Took me a while to adjust to the pressure of university and take a load off... I had more breakdowns than i can count, but my family never saw any of them. That kinda hit home
