(DJI Pocket 2) KONE MonoSpace lifts and amazing old KONEs at Bayview Shopping Centre in Colwyn Bay
This is another place you'd never guess would have lifts, but it has two sets going to the same car park! The MonoSpaces are very nice but the real treat is the set of three vintage lifts, while slow they are proper characterful! This video was shot on the DJI Pocket 2.

Yes, I went to the Trafford Centre! Here are all the main lifts barring the ones in the car parks as I didn't exactly know where those were. This was filmed as part of my second UK lift adventure, more content from which will be coming soon!

I have never seen a call panel like the one on the first lift in this video - I can only assume it's a remote COP like that of a dumbwaiter though I'm not sure. In retrospect I should've tried pushing one of the buttons to see what they do, maybe next time XD
What a motor! 2016 ThyssenKrupp MRL traction lift at Penneys in O'Connell Street, Dublin City
Просмотров 505Месяц назад
This store looks quite small on the outside, but it has a three-floor ThyssenKrupp! It's very well maintained as is the Penneys lift tradition but the best bit has got to be the epic motor! This is located directly beside the Eason with the seven-storey 2000 VF, video of that hopefully coming soon as well.

Some very nice glass GeN2s at Dundrum that are somewhat hard to find - you have to go out of the main centre and into a side food court and cinema block to find them, though it's well worth it as these are amazing lifts complete with rare announcements.

Titanic Belfast is widely regarded as one of the best immersive museums in the world. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Definitely a must visit if you're in the area. Also, it just so happens to have a whole lot of KONE MonoSpaces, and I filmed all of them! (that I found, anyway)

These amazing little rocket ships have got to be the best lifts of the whole trip - they're so fast, efficient and analogue! Sadly though they are quite busy. I'd have loved to get a longer video but sadly that wasn't to be. Enjoy a couple rides on these awesome lifts!
Interesting glass Kleemann lift at the Parkside Shopping Centre in Portlaoise

Aside from SuperValu, this is a bit of a dead mall, but it's still got a lift to ride! It's a fairly standard Kleemann but it has quite nice clunks.

Three or four years after it was first hinted, I finally got round to making an animated lift video! This was made in Google Slides with sound added in iMovie. Backstory (all fictional): The Spiral Car Park is a council-owned car park in the docklands of Newer Newport City, Skysperia, near the XL Convention Centre. When it opened it had 2 fast Schindler M-Series lifts, though sadly one was remo...

(Short video) Frasers Newbridge - The KONE MonoSpace lifts from Debenhams are still original!
I remember Filming these Lifts 14 Years ago though unfortunately I was too scared to ride the Old set of 3 Kone's at the time
Nice old Kone! I've only just recently seen my first one in Norway with sigma fixtures and I really like them
@Mind-The-Doors Noice! Yeah they would have a lot of them up there alright, given the geographical proximity to Finland. I quite like the fixtures too though I'd personally prefer Delta.
Hopefully this tutorial series will have confirmed follow ups and if not helping loads of Skyscrapersim users out there who want to have proper understanding in making hand-coded buildings. I just started out making my first ever hand-coded building earlier this month, to which at the moment looks just as nicer then normally expected. I've done some detailing around the place, especially to the lifts. I even added a automatic door, trees, walkways and even parking lots. Though I stopped working on it since my PC gone faulty XDDD
@RoLiftsOfficial Ahhh nice. Would love to see a video of that some day, maybe when it's closer to completion. Oh silly PC, don't be ruining the fun lol XD So the reason there's been literally zero update on this series since day 1 is I used to get a lot of comments on Skyscrapersim videos back in the day asking things like how do you make these buildings, so I thought a tutorial series on the programming language would be very useful to a lot of people. Sadly though I had a lot of other projects on the go at the time outside of RUclips and unfortunately based on the video's very low view count I thought there actually wasn't that much demand for it so I sort of put it on hold for the moment. I really hate to promise and not deliver and make decisions based on views and stuff but sadly other projects had to come first here. But I never truly canned the project - one of these days maybe when some of the other projects have concluded I might get on with the other episodes, because I do feel a lot of guilt about making vapourware out of something that would actually probably come in handy to a lot of people.
@@LIFTEXCELSIOROfficial Sad to say, on this particular account I'll not post videos outside of *Real-Life* lifts. However, the ongoing hand-coded building I'm working on will come out on the Skyscrapersim Forum.
This used to be H&M before they moved into their new unit. This used to be a 1990s stannah before it was replaced, but it’s a good replacement. Great video
@northernirishlifts Thanks! Ah right, it did have a feel of an ex-H&M about it. I guess the replacement must've been done while it was still H&M then as the new one only opened recently iirc.
@@LIFTEXCELSIOROfficial yea it was done when this was still H&M
The ones outside which goes between the two parking decks were the first lifts I rode in the UK (excluding Northern Ireland and on-board Irish Ferries Ulysses) back in 2006 (I was only 5 (6 in November) at the time). We were on holidays to visit relatives in Watford near London and visit Legoland in Windsor. On route, we stopped at the Trafford Centre.
Noice! I didn't actually ride those ones this trip, maybe next time. BTW did that boat go to Holyhead? Just wondering as it seems a bit of a stretch to get to Manchester from there.
@@LIFTEXCELSIOROfficialYes. The Irish Ferries ‘Ulysses’ has done the route between Dublin and Holyhead since early 2001 (only a few months before I was born in 2000). Before this, it was the ‘Isle of Inishmore’ from 1997 to 2001 and was moved onto the Rosslare to Pembroke route until recently. I think it’s now doing the new Dover to Calais run. From Holyhead, it’s about 2 and a half hours to Manchester. It’s basically a straight run along the A55 North Wales Expressway and straight onto the M56 motorway all the way to Manchester and the M56 would be on the right side for the Trafford Centre. In case you’re curious, the Ulysses have (and I presume still have) Kone M-Series lifts by the MacGregor company and the Isle of Inishmore have (and I pressure are no longer on the ferry) 90s Thyssen lifts with square black buttons with green LEDs. These were also 2 speed lifts.
Ah right, very interesting. All my UK trips so far were via StenaLine so I don't know much about the other ferry companies. Inferring from a video by another user the Inishmore now has KONE lifts with KSS-570 fixtures, so I guess the Thyssens were what those replaced. Also FYI the Stena Adventurer (one of the two Stena ships on the Dublin-Holyhead route) has two MacGregor-KONE TMS lifts with aftermarket Drucegrove voice announcements. They have rare "deck" announcements, never heard those before on that voice. The other ship on the other hand, the Estrid, has modern KONE Marine lifts instead, though one of them has a curious 90º door setup.
so there's two sets for car parks that are accessed either side of selfridges on the upper level if i remember correctly, you've also got another 2 in the food court area that go up to the cinema(? i forget if thats what was up there) on level 2 as well as a couple partway along the walkway to the trafford palazzo or whatever they call it now where there's also some newer KSS140 MonoSpaces and before those some schindlers that idk if they're running or not because last time i was there they werent. Primark in that end also has some big kones and i can't remember if there was anything else in that section at the moment
Ahh right - I did actually ride the ones in the Palazzo, those are coming in a separate video, though not the ones on the walkway - for some reason I skipped them - and I can report the Schindlers do run though they seemed a little poorly. I didn't do much exploring on the upper mall so I guess I wouldn't have seen the others.
@@LIFTEXCELSIOROfficial schindlers have been off for a while from what i understand so i'm not too surprised that they might not be at their best now. i guess that walkway is quite long so it makes sense if you were just thinking oh god how long is this gonna take lol as an aside i hope you went into both selfridges and john lewis while you were there
Ah ok. Yeah it sure was a trek to get over the bridge but it was worth it (there was also a vintage Mercedes 380SL on display at the end, which was interesting). Yep I saw those as well, those'll be coming soon. JL's lifts were very busy as one of the escalators was down, so I sadly couldn't film those too much.
@@LIFTEXCELSIOROfficial what a silly escalator, how dare it do that
beep
@@ZZ9ProductionsOFFICIAL Insert at least 20 more beeps here XD
No, Otis elevators are just unreliable.
Well it worked perfectly fine apart from the button beep lol
@@LIFTEXCELSIOROfficial Then it must be considered reliable...
First one of its kind?
First one in a H&M in Ireland yeah, though I think there are a couple others outside of H&M stores. (Sorry for replying so late - on holiday rn)
@@LIFTEXCELSIOROfficial With the same fixtures?
They’ve changed the lights since and now all the indicators work (at least 3 of them anyway, can’t mind if they fixed the one on the left lift). They look so much better now There was plans for this store to be turned into a sports direct and TK Maxx being moved to castlecourt but I’m not sure what happened that idea Great video
Thanks! Ahh right, they were in dire need of a job tbh XD Interesting, wonder what they'd do with the current Sports Direct if that went through. (Sorry for replying so late, on holiday rn)
I agree, the first lift seems more characterful than the second; though Oaklands are characterful lifts imo. I like the clever audio edit too! :)
@lovelifts1736 Thanks! Yeah they are characterful, just a shame so many of them have a big jolt on startup, though I guess that adds to the character XD
Very Sad 1995 Pickerings Lift Has Been Modernised ☹️☘️🇮🇪
The first lift used to be a goods lift I think
Ah right ok
The buttons don’t do anything, they used to work a few years ago but now they’re broken
Ah right. Do you know what they did when they worked?
@@LIFTEXCELSIOROfficial I think it was around 2021/22
Good friend
Thanks!
Very nice lift, and it sounds like it goes at a decent speed too. Love the "travel up/down" announcements! I wanna find one now! :D
Thanks, yeah it is an epic one. Hope you find one soon, sadly I can't think of any convenient ones right now but hopefully some day one will reveal itself to ya.
Your gonna laugh but I couldn’t really hear the motor but looks a very fun lift
It mightn't show so well on camera but trust me the startup is mega loud in person XD
This was installed when they renovated the whole shop between late 2015 and early 2016 (I think it was reopened in March that year). Before this, there used to be a 1970s Otis lift when the store was a British Home Stores (or BHS), I think the only one in the Republic of Ireland. It closed in the late 1980s. Then when Penneys opened there around 1992, they modernised the Otis lift by Pickerings. Penneys must have had a lift maintenance contract with Pickerings in the 90s because any lift in a Penneys store at that time was a Pickerings (Mary St Dublin, Cork, I think Limerick, etc). Now, I think apart from O’Connell St, Ballina and Blanchardstown which all have TK lifts, Kone is the dominant brand of lift.
Ah right, thanks for the info. Do you know if the OTIS was hydro or traction?
@@LIFTEXCELSIOROfficial I was never in it sadly but nathanandrews100 was in it back 2014 and he confirms it’s a traction lift (I presume a two speed lift). I seen it back in 2008 when the store was still stuck in the 1990s. I think there was only stairs down to the basement where I think the shoe department was. I think there was escalators to the first floor though. It’s over 15 years ago now, so it’s hard to remember correctly. I do remember the lift despite not getting to ride (at the time, I was lucky to get into 4 or 5 lifts a year, because I wasn’t really allowed to go in lifts, plus I was afraid of lifts at the time)
They’ve turned off the ADO, very strange
Well at least we get to hear the brake clearer now XD
How many KONE Sigmas in your country?
I can think of 10 to 15 known examples though there are definitely way more than that. In terms of older KONE lifts in Ireland, Delta is generally the more common fixture.
@@LIFTEXCELSIOROfficial Maybe Finland will have more KONE Sigma MonoSpaces.

Thanks! Yeah lots of clunks going on here XD
Lovely clunk there
Defo, probably one of the best I've heard.
The second set of KONE MonoSpace lifts took so long to level.
Yeah it did take a while. It's not actually a second set btw, just two clips of the one set.
The fan sounds like the ones in the 1st generation EcoDiscs.
Very nice video and lifts, these brake clunks are awesome! :D
Thanks! Yeah defo!
Yayyy, a new Kone! :D Really nice lift, love the look of the fixture panel too! KSS D20's are my favourite :)
It's a brilliant looking fixture, good thing it's becoming more common now XD
Looks nice but wouldn’t go all that way just to see this specific lift. I’m interested in what the main lifts are gonna be. They supposedly have DMG buttons but the image isn’t very clear, they could be anything. They might also be Kleemanns as you say but hopefully we will soon find out! Great video
Thanks! When I saw them through the window, they looked like they had Kleemann indicators, and there was also some spec sheet I found about the building that said the lift manufacturer was Kleemann. In that case Kleemanns with DMG must be pretty rare, unless it's just silver Schaefer.
@@LIFTEXCELSIOROfficial probably is yk
This is a gorgeous Kone with the KSS D53. It reminds me of Schindler's Linea 300
Yeah, very. It kinda does look like Linea now that you mention it.
Awesome
Nice IL Lift
Nice! Even though they are from 2016 so they are not that old but I think that all the bigger MonoSpaces have these clunks also as the 4th generation EcoDiscs and these were probably also one of the last installations with the older voice.
Thanks! Probably yeah, they're certainly the newest old voice ones I've been in anyway.
