Why qin music theory? Five modes not pentatonic 五音乃五調 非五聲
Know music theories makes a difference! If you ONLY know one music theory, your music expression is limited. You can write great music, but your expression is limited!! When you try to mimic writing a different language, a native can immediately tell. Be a bilingual or trilingual in music!!!
It will bring your music composition greater potential!!! Understand their terminologies instead of using western frame to contain them. Truly understand a different music tradition.

Song of Secluded Orchid 幽蘭操 music fr. ballet “Confucius” by Zhang Qu arranged for qin by Shuishan Yu

The music for this piece is from the Chinese dance drama “Confucius” composed by Zhang Qu. I arrange it to play on guqin. As guqin music, this piece is unique as it uses six different keys. I use the common tuning Zhonglu-jun (third string Do=F). The melody starts in F major slow and calm. As the momentum builds up, the music migrates to C major, then D major, E major, G major, and finally ends...

    i see many people play the guqin on a table, but I have read there are some traditional sitting positions to play it sitting on the ground without a table. i like that idea more, I tried to find resources with pictures or detailed descriptions. but find not really a lot. do you have any links or info about that? By the way thanks for your answers in the other video. they help. i losed the string a bit and tightened it and then it worked, the issue was gone. but maybe I will try to tune it to c2 my tuning is at the moment from string 1 to 7 C1 D2 F3 G4 A5 C6 D7 if you recommend other tuning I am open to it because i just learning it and have it 1 day :D

    i have also another question, the keck of the first string at my guqin is kinde lose I think, I tuned first string to c1 but when I play it it makes a not normal vibration sound. so I tested around were the sound comes from or why.. if I put my finger on the string knot and play it does not make the wrong sound. so I think is it the string the keck or I don't know. maybe you have an idea? i can make also I youtube video if you want to understand the problem bedder.Would be nice if you can help . By the way nice videos they halp alot

      string 1 is often tuned c2. c1 is too loose. If you cannot tune it to c2, you might need to re-string the whole set, for which I also have videos.

    To further explicate: This video talks about the 2nd layer of 3 in "Chinese music theory" - the first layer being temperament, the second (this) is modality. The third would be application into tuning.

    Hello and thank you for this series! I still have a problem with my qin unfortunately. The tuning pegs (qinzhen) of the 6th and 7th string of my guqin kept slipping and un-tuning the string. I fixed that issue by re-stringing those two strings. However, despite the 6th and 7th strings being in tune now, they no longer align with the hui on the body of the qin! This makes it very difficult to follow written qin music as a beginner and has demotivated my practicing. Do you have any tips on how to make the string align with the hui’s again after re-stringing?

    May I inquire about the tempo in which you played this piece? I know most times it is open to interpretation as tempo is not often transcribed in historical pieces but sometimes the intention and scenery are. I have just located a copy of the original piece but my Mandarin is limited so translation will be slow as I translate and transcribe. May I ask what was the inspiration or inclination to play at this pace? Thank you in advance for any guidance you may offer.

    • @ShuishanYuGuqin
      @ShuishanYuGuqin 11 месяцев назад

      I start with 48 beats per minute, then 60, 72, 80. Most parts are 72, some 88; toward the end, ritardo. In general, the piece start slow and quiet, getting more and more agitated, and ending quiet again. Historical records connect this piece with Confucius, who lamented on secluded orchid as its beauty is hidden unrecognized, just like a gentleman in a corrupted world. I think the music captures the images of orchids well, pure and graceful, even the subtle smell, with both sound and fingering.

      Hi Peiyou: Thank you for the comment. “返注” 確實有時候會放出一個前弦的散音,效果上有點像“放合”。不過在概念上,兩者完全不同。由於手指的位置,在返注中,為了後弦的注,前弦必須有一個向上的尾音,這是其特點。但放出散音則不是必然,例如如果用甲肉轉換過弦就沒有放合效果。

      It depends on the quality of the strings. Metal strings last very long. I have instruments that I bought more than 20 years ago still with its original strings working. Silk strings break more often. Which ever you have, you don't need to change them until they: 1) are broken; 2) can't be start right on the bridge while properly tuned, in this case, you just need to adjust the silk ropes and restring them; 3) silk strings flake to form uneven surfaces; 4) wound metal strings unravel.
