    Nice job mounting the TVs 👍🏻. You can get an Ethernet adapter for the fire stick. I’d use a TP Link powerline adapter and connect it to the stick. Suppose you’ll come up with a solution. Always great videos 👍🏻

      Yea she’s booked in for the new year to have a proper WiFi access point fitted. Those power line adapters are very temperamental. It will give her decent WiFi coverage into the other side of house. Thank you for watching. It was very much a “just get the TVs up” situation, I like to hide cables and power leads if I can but it wasn’t necessary on this one

    I like watching this kind of content. Always curious as to why you often install the aerials in the loft/attic? I’d be getting it mounted outside to get a better signal. Double amplifier is bound to cause some issues at some point.

    • @aardvarkinstalls
      @aardvarkinstalls 12 дней назад

      It may well do yes, but not every time. It’s a case of balancing what the client wants and making a living, and not doing a bad job. It wasn’t an option for outside so this was it really. If the installer understands noise levels and what they should be then it shouldn’t be an issue unless a piece of equipment fails. But that could be said for any technical electrical, plumbing, WiFi networking or any system with lots of elements in the equation

  • @optionstraderman
    @optionstraderman Месяц назад

    I just ran across your video and I like how you installed this antenna. My only concern is that you did not install a 75 ohm terminator cap on the unused output port 3 on the distribution amplifier. Most vendors I have seen recommend installing 75 ohm terminators on all unused ports to allow the amplifier distributor to work properly and prevent any signal issues from creeping in. In my home, I have installed an 8 port amp, but at the moment I'm only using 4 of the ports. I called the Distribution Amp manufacturer and asked them about terminating the unused ports, that the emphatically suggested that I install 75 ohm terminator caps on all unused ports, so I bought some and installed them and all is working just fine.

    • @aardvarkinstalls
      @aardvarkinstalls Месяц назад

      Hi there. Although it might be recommended, it’s absolutely not essential. In my 24 years of doing this it’s never been an issue. I was never taught or advised to do so by the two companies I worked for prior to starting on my own either. I think it’s just a bit OTT really.

    • @optionstraderman
      @optionstraderman 29 дней назад

      @aardvarkinstalls I hear you! The reason manufacturers suggest you terminate all unused cable runs with a 75 ohm Terminator resistor is very simple. Signals are constantly being fed down The wire from the antenna through your splitter or amplifiers all the way into the distribution cables. If you don't have a Terminator resistor on the ends of those cables or unused ports on an amplifier, basically those devices begin to act as antennas picking up any extraneous signals in the area such as microwave ovens, other radio waves or TV or cell tower broadcasts and since the waves that are coming down the wire have nowhere to go they reflect back up into your source and can actually contaminate the audio and video signals that you're projecting to all of your other devices. I agree in the past this was never really taught or emphasized but if you look at it from the logic I just described, it makes perfect sense and might actually provide a cleaner less pixelated image to all of the remaining TVs that are actually connected to your antenna or cable TV system. Generally I never argue with the manufacturers of the devices as they have spent millions of dollars testing to ensure good results for consumers. I might suggest that you call the distribution amplifier companies of the products you're using and get their response. Who knows, it might even allow you to provide you in a more perfect antenna system for your customers.

    Thanks for this. I love my tech but I've zero knowledge how on dtv. We moved into a new house and there's sat cables in every room. In the loft I found a couple of antennas but trying to tune anything got me nowhere. I pondered there has to be a booster or something. I found a moisture remover in the loft but the fuse was removed/popped out from the spur, it has a couple of feeds coming out of it, I bet that fuse feeds the boosters. I shall go check later. I don't personally possess a signal tester, only ever had one to align a satellite, I take it these don't do the same job? The antennas are already fixed in, so they must have worked originally? .. it'll go investigate later today. Thanks

    • @blizteredthumbs7911
      @blizteredthumbs7911 27 дней назад

      @aardvarkinstalls got nowhere. I can't figure out how they got it working. I only tried a little, we've other means of TV but I figured I'd get it working if it's available. In the attic I found two antennas. I traced cables and found one had detached. The other was manually twisted split to two way. No boosters. No power to nothing. I pondered did they have a booster at the source? I searched all frequencies. And radio, absolutely nothing. If you walked in and inspected, what would you suggest you're faced with? At the TV it was what id call a sat cable, female, screw on attachment. Screwed into it was a coaxial converter. The TV that was in the kitchen, pre installed never got a signal either. It's a puzzle.

    Slightly off the content of this video but as a contractor myself I often come across customers with ‘not so friendly dogs’, I’ve been bitten a few times, have you ever had that experience? Do you ask them to put the dog away?

    • @aardvarkinstalls
      @aardvarkinstalls 2 месяца назад

      I’ve been nipped once and I told the customer exactly what I thought of them. To be fair most customers ask if I’m ok with dogs, and I say if they are ok with me then I am with them. If they are constantly barking I just say I’m sorry I can’t do this with them barking can they put it away. I think it’s down to the dogs preference though, maybe dogs just don’t like you? Most dogs love me and I’m often rolling around snuffling with the customers spaniel on their sitting room floor instead of working 😂

    Great to see you recording more content. Back in late 1990s I had a static caravan in Whitby and really struggled with half decent tv reception with only 4 channels from the Whitby relay. I managed to feed a wire through external mesh air outlet and installed sky zone 1 dish to balcony with spare sky box for Freesat which worked really well and within months others had installed similar system. The problem I found was that aerial sockets in the static was poor quality as was the cable which I also replaced. At that time atmospheric conditions often meant that foreign signals swamped the Whitby transmitter which was fun to see signals as far away as Norway and Sweden - no sound as they used different sound carriers but intriguing nonetheless - keep up the good work 😊.

    • @aardvarkinstalls

      Neither. A roofer won’t know anything about serials or alignment, and a handyman wouldn’t either. You want to call a TV aerial installer that will have the necessary instances to be up on roofs and also the knowledge and equipment to correctly align or replace the aerial if needed. Cost will vary hugely on the condition of the fallen aerial. Anything from £60 upwards I would’ve thought ? Where are you?

    Lordy those types of plates have not been common in the states since the early 90’s 😬 Shielded balanced splitters took root from the mid 90’s on and plates were only ever used as a single connection point instead of a daisy chain device. Even then some creative techs used the same theory to daisy chain “tapped” splitters. We were animals in the day 😅
