The Centre for the Conservation of Specialized Species was founded in 1987 and is currently located east of Peterborough, Ontario.
The Centre has worked with over 40 unique species of animals and is currently home to approximately 300 animals, including birds of prey (hawks, falcons, eagles, owls, etc) and bats.
The Centre's three main objectives are public education, captive breeding programs and providing sanctuary to birds that are too badly injured to be released back into the wild.

Snowy Owlets being fed
Four of the Snowy Owlets bred at the Centre in 2012, the youngest is approximately 12 days old while the oldest is about three weeks of age. They are being fed ground chicken and the "bupping" noise is the call we use to train them to come for food, it is similar to the grunting noise that adult Snowy Owls make while feeding their young.
