Just my opinion but I don't think that taking the soliod off and sanding the fender has anything to do with helping the soliod it's just a mounting surface I've taking many of them off never seen any kind of build up of any kind behind there

I had a '91 F150 XLT 4x4. I Loved that truck. Nothing really much wrong with it. Until it got stolen, and pit maneuvered. Then got rid of it. Still dealing with the court, going on 4 years now. Picked up a '94 Dodge $x4, For cheap. Now I Drive a 2016 F150 XLT Sport 4x4 5.0, which i love for now. I Still Love the Older F150s 4x4. ( Early '70s-Mid '80s.)
