Stellenbosch Madrigal Singers
Stellenbosch Madrigal Singers (SMS) is an a cappella vocal group consisting of 12 members, students and young adults who have been performing since 2004. Their repertoire includes a variety of music styles, although the focus is mainly on vocal Renaissance music, especially madrigals. Although most of the music is written for four voice parts, some of the compositions demand up to eight parts.
The group exists thanks to Matildie Thom who, as a student, learned about the concept of madrigals during a music history lesson. She approached a few friends about the idea to get together and make music purely for the social enjoyment of it just like centuries ago. Celia Vos has been managing the group since 2007, with Elsje and Harri Kemp (a brother and sister combo) taking over in 2014. They have since given many performances in order to share this passion for enjoyable musicmaking with as many people as possible.

Die Here is my Herder (Ps. 23) - Chris Lamprecht
As performed by the Stellenbosch Madrigal Singers in the magical Wolfberg Cracks, Cederberg Mountains, on 4 September 2021.
Lyrics (Afrikaans):
Die Here is my Herder, niks sal my ontbreek nie.
Hy laat my neerlê in groen weivelde,
Na waters waar rus is lei Hy my heen,
Hy verkwik my siel.
Hy lei my in die spore van geregtigheid,
Want U is met my,
U stok en U staf vertroos my.
U berei die tafel voor my aangesig.
U maak my hoof vet met olie,
My beker loop oor!
Net goedheid en guns sal my volg al die dae van my lewe,
En ek sal in die huis van die Here bly,
In lengte van dae.
Translated lyrics (English):
The Lord is my sheph...

Which is the properest day to sing - Thomas Arne
Brings back memories. I sang this in youth choir in 1980 at church.
Who's still remember that song in primary school comptions
The irony, this is my mother tongue, Rukwangali, spoken in Namibia 🇳🇦 and I find myself a student at Stellenbosch uni! I wish I could join you guys, u have beautiful voices!
Wow. Such a LOVELY rendition, folks!!! We lived in Lidingö in the late 60s for 3 yrs. Living in Sverige as a child was (and remains) an inspiration for me! Wanting to impart the joy & fun of the culture our parents exposed us to stays with me. I desire to share the folk & Xmas music to my adult children! Best to you, fellow 🙏🏼🎻Musicians~Artists🎇
This was such a blessing and a joy listening to pure voices in harmony. I wasn’t paying attention at first then I heard the aspiration of your Ts Ds and Ks and knew the singers were not Filipinos. We are amused when foreigners tackle our language! Great job, to God be the glory.
Terrific!
A secular song from the Baroque. This piece is mostly homophonic in texture. Repeated phrases are sang with a piano dynamic as an echo. The voices achieve crisp, clear articulations without rushing the moderate tempo.
The song needs updating, with more positive lyrics...
Awful song ....Not humorous all.....especially if you're vegetarian.....
Stfu I’m vegetarian and this is very positive and humorous to me
Wunderschön,eben sch❤edisch!!! Schweden,Land,Leute u.Ihr Choristen ,das Beste auf der Welt. Tack så mycket.❤❤❤❤🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
Good ❤
Thank you for the lovely singing and interpretation of my arrangement of the late Andre Dionisio’s immortal Filipino hymn. The somewhat subito piano rendering of the final verse was special. Curiously, are you all members of the much acclaimed Stellenbosch University Choir under Andre van der Merwe?
Some of us are old SU choir members, not specifically under Andre, some old members from other choirs in the area.
My song for the choir❤😂🎉😅
Great job, guys! A tough song to learn. Our group here in western Canada are learning it too!
😍
Dis ongelooflik mooi, Erik! Jy is ‘n begaafde verwerker / konponis!
Beautiful!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
So beautiful. A great harmony and live recording. The room would've had a magical feel when the lights dimmed. Good job.
This is cool🙂
Im ersten Takt leider schon tiefer geworden.
That's awesome music
❤
😢
Where can I find the score to this? Such fun!
Sheet music for this arrangement? There are lots online, but a lot of them are very strange. ty!
Hi! Please pop a mail to stellenboschmadrigalsingers@gmail.com then I will send the sheet music we used :)

Uitstekend!
Well sung, you and this beautiful piece should be better known, gems to be discovered on here.
Thanks for singing our song!
I like the song . May I have the wordings?
He that hath a pleasant face, and will join in catch or glee He shall have a welcome place mid his goodly company He that hath a pleasant face and will join in catch or glee.. (he that hath a pleasant face..) and will join in catch or glee x3 Will join in (catch or glee) x3 He shall have a welcome place mid his goodly company!! If he cannot sing or play Why then pity of his heart! Not withstanding, let him stay, He shall do the listeners part! If he cannot play or sing! And he only comes to talk! Then that's quite another thing! He may take his heart and walk! May take his heart and walk! X3 He shall have no welcome place mid his goodly company!
Really nice work
Nicely done!
bravo!
This is a silly little song. Learned it in primary school and haven't heard it since, but it's given me the giggles for many years now. Glad I remembered some of the lyrics well enough to find it. Beautiful performance.
It really is a fun one to sing! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Mooi.
Sie, Phyllis is my only joy 😂
Great sound from home!
Super awesome

Wonderful!
Well done!! We're doing this same version today as well!
