That float is savage. Have a look at the floats we use in the UK, that float would be ok for catching Pike on dead baits or in the sea. For small fish upto 10lb on the float we use 4lb-6lb mono and thinner hook lengths and slim floats called wagglers (and pellet wagglers for carp)on still waters and wagglers and stick floats(not there not twig from a tree) I'm sure if you use UK/European tackle you'd learn a thing or 2. That set up size 6-8 hook and 30lb braid? You will catch more fish if you use finer tackle for the fish you're targeting. No problem with you using a rig like that for large predators like catfish, muskies, northern pike and big alligator gar, but for fish under a lb/pound. I'd be using a small size 16 hook 4lb line to a 2lb hook length and 2 maggots or a piece of corn or bread for fish that size. Try it and i bet you catch more fish.
