Sounds like the crunch moment is still to come...best of luck with that! Sounds like a two cups of tea and a chunk of Xmas cake job to me...bash on and so forth...
.....well done David!....sounded like one of those typical quick jobs that ended up going down a rabbit hole! I had that recently when I tracked down an oil leak coming from the old redundant X1/9 mechanical fuel pump. The previous owner had installed an electric fuel pump but left the old mechanical one on the engine block. Fitting the blank plate turned into a faff because the new gasket didn't quite cover the hole, then I needed additional washers that I didn't have to space off the nuts as the bolts weren't fully threaded....it goes on! Still, all done now! Gaz.
I want to replace my thermostat on my 1979 x1/9. I bought the thermostat but it seems like a lot of work so decided to hold off until next summer or so.
My alternator squeals under load. It has got worse over this year to the point where you can smell the belt burning. I would also say you are running the coolant too low. I keep mine about 1/2"-1" above the highest hose in the engine bay. That's one of the coolant hoses. If the heater goes cold, l know it has lost coolant.
Hope you get it sorted it's a lovely car the red is nice we have a green one 1981 and it had a leak in pipe from water pump I have patched it got new pipe to put on great little cars when going well
Oh dear...lack of coolant is never good is it...regular checks on older vehicles! Belts all OK? Nothing nasty exiting the exhaust pipe? Water traces on the dip stick? Good news if not...fingers crossed....
The thermostat housing has pink deposits around its base. I have bitten the bullet and sent to Eurosport for a new one. I repaired the existing one some years ago.
....sorry to hear that David. My first thoughts when you said screeching sound was a belt slipping maybe, perhaps on the water pump or alternator? Hope you get it sorted. All the best, Gaz.
Exy wins! Such a pretty car...not sure about the toast rack changes..quite a clever standard design I think..if in doubt just leave it open for a bit...in dry weather obviously!
You make the same noises getting into your Exy as I do in mine! Nice vid..thanks...love Looe and Polperro..Blue Peter pub by the harbour particularly....
Hi David.....I'm looking to swap my air filter also. Can you let me what depth that K&N is? I'm worried about the gap. I want to make sure the boot lid will close! I've seen some air filters but they are 63mm. Thanks, Gareth.
All that nice stuff and you go ip to a plastic piece of shit there's ten million of, siper cars are not super anymore they are built with the same junk your regular car is, except they go way faster, which... I wouldn't want to see a Toyota Echo or something do 200 because the wheels would come off. Also I've never seen a video of one of these moving more than 110 at Goodwood, apart from Top Gear (Jeremy loved every detail, meaning they paid him to lie as he always finds something) otherwise these shit heaps are cruising Rodeo Drive at 25 mph. They are a falsehood for a huge price.
Play each string at the 12th fret. Should be the same as playing open string. Adjust with the screw on the Bridge. Assume you have electric tuner or else you be nackered
Nice to see someone appreciating these great little cars. Still have my 1989 Gran finale which I bought new after the unfortunate demise of my Lancia Beta Coupe 1600. I ran a Janspeed exhaust for a while which sounded nice until it suffered early failure of internal baffles and no replacement was available.
I would love a little x19. Glad you get yours out and about on the road. Have you thought about doing a Euro bumper conversion? You were talking about the lines of the car in your video, and I think the disproportionate American bumpers they put on really hide the pretty lines of the x19.
......a bit late to this video David but great stuff! Where did you source your K&N filter from? did you notice any difference in performance or sound? What did you do with your breather pipe? I wouldn't mind looking into this for my 87 X1/9. Gaz.
Cant remember where i bought the filter, on line. A good sound though and better breathing. The breather pipe dissapears under the car and links up to Gretas sense of righteousness .
Wonderful! I’ve owned a 1961 MGA mk2 for over 30 years - the fellow forgot to mention the 12ft timing chain that also gave MG a lot of issues when the twin cam was new! Following as I recently bought an X1/9 and your hints and tips have been extremely helpful thank you!
The car looks fabulous in the red a beautiful place what part of UK are you in I recently got a water pipe the steel pipe from euro sports for our x 19 it has a small leak best wishes from west cork in the south of Ireland near Bantry
David great video and very helpful and informative. I just took my very old and dirty Weber 32/34 DMTL of my 1988 defender and stupidly didn’t take note of the yet orders. Do you mind sharing what the manual suggests they should be. I’d love to try them in your order vs manual and see which works best for me
You are a Wally.
Only reporting what happened. Tractors!
Thanks for the video. I was fixing a clogged 32/34 carb and this was very useful
They are complex things. Hope it runs well.
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing experience and nice work too.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for sharing, I guess this will be one day!
I hope so too!

That is a good tip. I will mark a dip stick.
So, is that water leak the reason the car had to go home on a lorry?
I think so, am not sure about the squeak yet.
Well at least I know where it goes now! Good luck with the assembly...another scary priced component to worry about..😂
Claire did a great job getting it remanufactured.
X19 love twisty roads engine in middle so well balanced
Hope you get it sorted it's a lovely car the red is nice we have a green one 1981 and it had a leak in pipe from water pump I have patched it got new pipe to put on great little cars when going well
New thermostat housing coming this morning.

Thank you.
Check if coolant is bubbling when engine is running
Perhaps you should mend it with TIG weld instead of plastic weld
First the squeaking noise then it goes TWANG!!!
Look at your oil cap and dipstick. See if it has coolant mixed into it.
I haven't seen an x19 in a very long time.
Not many about. Rare in fact.
Exy wins! Such a pretty car...not sure about the toast rack changes..quite a clever standard design I think..if in doubt just leave it open for a bit...in dry weather obviously!
Lovely pieces of history there, keep it up mate !
Australia does have some twisty roads too.
Yep, around the south west of wa
I did indeed say that ! I'm glad I didn't. Twisty roads are scary!
How lovely, it was like I was there. It reminded me of the lovely drive we did when Maureen and I were there in ‘23. Good work
Thanks David and Imogen... Sunshine next time...well maybe!
Went to porthscathow after for lunch
You make the same noises getting into your Exy as I do in mine! Nice vid..thanks...love Looe and Polperro..Blue Peter pub by the harbour particularly....
Yep, didnt take arthritis tablet last night.

My boot lid is the 1500. Height of filter is about 50mm

I must admit, I can't see the point.
A glove box in a shoebox. How quaint.😮
Very good.
What is the nut made of?
Aluminium

That is beyond me.
Yeah, I know how to set up an electric guitar. How did you mill the neck of the guitar where the tuners are?
Hard work with saw, chisel and sandpaper

One owner, excellent.

I agree they spoil the lines but after a van slowley reversed into little me, I am leaving them. Thanks for watching.🙂
@@davidmoult5770 haha fair enough. Carry on enjoying the car.
I have a spare one nr east devon but it needs some work
@@drivelaughing7905 they really are the perfect little sports car, incomparable handling, that is the key.
Looks like you’ll hit 400 subscribers in no time David!!
I dont know whats happening. More facial shots should calm things down.
I am amazed
Well done David, here's to 500 !
You never know, perhaps even... 501
Well, well, well.
Nice car! I believe the engine is from Lampredi, not "Lampardi".
You are right!
Staggered to say I've just somehow got my fourth Exy..Bertone this time...fine apart from a sticky passenger window...hurrah! Nigel oop North x
Ooop north eh! I wer born in Sheffield. R8

How Right You Are!!! I had one as a Daily Driver for 10 years, True..... I miss it like no other car I EVER HAD! great Video !!!!
Well thank you, a greatly under appreciated car .

I live in Cornwall near Fowey. Thanks for watching. Good luck with the pipe.
Get yerself an oil drain valve instead of getting yer hands and driveway oily
A good idea,
Nice video. Have you ever heard of a fan to cool the carburettor?? 🤷
Yes, some people fit them. The electric fuel pump seems to solve vaporisation. All the best.
The wiring looks amateur
I am an ama amar amateur
I still love these cars, I had an 81 model in silver and I might buy another now I'm 60!
They are good
Nice
Thanks

With the petrol inlet on the left and choke on the right my jets are: 0.70 1.30 1.07 0.47
@@davidmoult5770 ah dam, I was hoping DMTL would be the same. My jets have 52 and 60 on the other two. Guess I’ll have to hunt down the manual
Nb. Even Cornwall has the odd heavy rain stotm.
You are right, it rains a lot
I believe the mesh is a potentisl disaster re rain
I have an internal cover for parking outside at night but driving in rain hasnt been a problem.
