Here's the science: For the most part, I would say that these Artic Air products are scams, but they do have their use. I think mainly these are good if you already have A/C and you're in a warm spot, or maybe the thermostat is set a couple of degrees hotter than you would like. The "cold air" comes mostly from the conversion of sensible heat to latent heat via the evaporation of water. The latent heat of vaporization of 16 oz of water, which is roughly the capacity of this unit is roughly 1000 BTU. That means it takes 1000 BTU of heat energy to completely convert all room temperature water into water vapor, at which point you would need to refill it. This is like running a small (5000 BTU/hour) window A/C for 12 minutes, but instead this takes 12 hours. As far as putting ice in them and freezing them, this coldness is only very temporary There is the amount of heat energy to bring ice from freezer temperature to 32F, the energy to bring the water from 32F to ambient temperature, plus the latent heat of fusion (energy needed to melt the ice at 32F). This, however, only represents a small fraction of the overall cooling capacity. Any heat dissipated from the melting and heating of the ice and water will equal the energy your freezer uses and expels as heat back into your house. Remember the law of conservation of energy from physics class? If you are somewhere that has very low humidity this will happen much quicker, so there will be quite a bit more benefit. But if the humidity is too high, then you will just end up with a pool of water in front of the unit. Running this unit will increase your humidity, making the air feel more sticky and warmer unless the humidity is already very low, or you have a constant supply of dry air. If you are in an already air-conditioned room, you will get a slight benefit versus running just a fan. Remember to, that running the unit will put out a very slight amount of heat. These only use about 10 W. (10 W is roughly 34 BTU) So this will end up as heat and negate some of their benefit. Their claim that these will cool a room is total bullshit. They will cool a person in very close range. These are basically mini-swamp coolers. They are not worth the $40 price tag, but I can see paying $15. They have a USB port, so they are somewhat portable. So If you are going fishing, camping, or to a ball game, they can make the experience somewhat bearable

The only scam here is this video. You didn't put water in it like you're supposed to. I watched other videos where they followed the instructions and added water and guess what? It worked. They used a handheld thermometer to show before and after temperatures.

😂You’re Right! This thing does ABSOLUTELY nothing. The AC broke in my apartment and the landlord got one it just blew out HOT HUMID air. If you have a working central AC unit in your home it probably will help supplement it because the air is already cool. But as a stand-alone cooling unit. IT DOES NOTHING!
