    can you put into simpler terms? I’m new to the industry, I’m currently doing market surveys a preliminary test for the firm that I’m currently trying to get into the firm. I’ve given a sheet with questions to asks and a sheet for referrals. Now, I can get through the questions no problem, I can even ask for referrals no problem but I can definitely feel a sense of unease when I do.

      What exactly are you asking referrals for? Is it to be referred to someone to once again ask the set of questions that you just asked . . . or is it for something different? People want to know who and why they are are being asked to refer, and they ultimately want to know that there will be no negative consequences for them giving you a name to a friend or family member. Rather than making them guess who to refer to you, it would be better for you to give them a name of someone you would like to be introduced to. Don't make them come up with names.

      @@danielcollison5337 Thank you for the reply. So, the referrals are for something else (That’s what I’m assuming anyway). The asked me to come up with a minimum of 25 referrals and before I can “officially start” so, I would assume that the referrals are who I will be trying work with. If you would like or wouldn’t mind, I could email you the pdf template of the questions.

      Thanks for your comment. If you collect names during discovery, goal setting, and any other time that you're conversing with your clients and COIs, and then hold them in abeyance until the appropriate time to ask for the Introduction, you will flourish.

I have been tasked with going out to do field surveys as preliminary test before actually getting hired on to the firm. They gave me a sheet of questions and a sheet for referrals. I have no problem going out and talking with people or even asking for the referrals when it comes down to it, but I find that asking referrals I can sense that the person I’m interviewing is uncomfortable.
