“Charumathirupa…“ a Javali set to the raga Kaanada, is a composition by the 19th-century poet Tiruppanandal Pattabhiramayya, renowned for his evocative Javali compositions that embody Madhura Bhakti (sweet devotion). In this piece, the Nayika (heroine), consumed by longing, expresses her sorrow to her Sakhi (friend), questioning whether her compassionate lover has not yet arrived or if he has forgotten her. The composition beautifully captures the emotions of a Virahotkanthita Nayika, as classified in Bharata’s Natyashastra.
