Sharing Sox Podcast 139 — Will anybody buy a ticket next season? — 2025-01-06
Duty geezer Leigh Allan and his son and west coast correspondent, Will, ring in the new year (OK, a few days late) with a podcast dedicated to how they believe the White Sox will suddenly break through this season and become a major league team again, sweeping all before them en route to a season of 90, 100, 110 wins, or even more!!
Now, that’s a lie, but they do manage to mostly avoid talking about how bad the 2025 Sox will be by talking about other teams, terrific players who happen to ply their trade elsewhere, free agents who are heading for distant parts, the future of the AL Central, and the amazing Traject Arc pitching machine, before wallowing into the unfortunate likelihood Jerry ...

For one last time in Our Year of the Utterly Hapless 2024, our staff gathered for a mothership podcast. This time around it was Brett Ballantini hosting Chrystal O'Keefe, Joe Resis and Dante Jones. The program runs broad but obvious: Looking back at the horrors of 2024 and ahead to what may be different in 2025. The lowest moments of 2024 Highlights (?!?) of 2024 Just how bad was the White Sox ...

Brett Ballantini has a cute little talk with White Sox reliever Jesse Crain about his tradition of keeping some of his children's toys with him in his locker. Video by Brett Ballantini. (Apologies for the camera/audio issues, but hey, this is life on the road, doing it yourself. Special thanks to camera operator Jesse Crain.)
Sox Populi Podcast 182 - Reviewing our 2024 predictions - 2024-12-05

We made our season predictions for the fourth consecutive year over at South Side Sox, and for the fourth consecutive year, a different writer took the crown. And this year, in fact, the crown is worn by two prognosticators - the veteran Year of the Hamster, and newcomer Enrique Silva. We have a comprehensive rundown of the twists and turns of our 2024 predictions over at SSS, but here are some...

Before crashing into White Sox matters, duty geezer Leigh Allan and his son and west coast correspondent, Will, indulge in postseason palaver - especially happy on Will’s part because he got to take part (very small part, but part nonetheless) in the team that won it all. So, much of the discussion is about the complete - and very happy - collapse of the Yankees in Game 5 of the World Series. Y...
Sharing Sox Podcast 137 - Is it all just a bunch of Jerry mandering? - 2024-10-27

Soon after the story broke of Jerry Reinsdorf possibly selling the White Sox, thereby sending waves of glee throughout Chicagoland, duty geezer Leigh Allan and his son and west coast correspondent, Will, try to figure out if Reinsdorf had the information leaked in order to try put pressure on politicians to plunge public billions into a monument to himself, or if he just had it leaked (to someb...

The long road to ignominy is over for the White Sox, but the long road to parsing the reasons for their total failure lives on. Duty geezer Leigh Allan and his son and west coast correspondent, Will, examine the recent national media analyses and yell a hearty, “Amen, brothers!” The two agree it would have been handier if the big shots had torn into Jerry Reinsdorf and how he runs his mess of a...
Visiting Dugout Episode 72 - Detroit Tigers - 2024-09-27

Friends, we've made it to the final series of this abysmal and historically-bad season. I feel like Winona Ryder at the end of the 1989 classic "Heathers" if you can picture that. The White Sox started the season against the Tigers, and Walker came on to chat about the Tigers. It's only fitting that the White Sox end the season the same way, and I finish off the second season of Visiting Dugout...
Sox Populi Podcast 181 - 120! - 2024-09-23

On the occasion of the White Sox matching the 1962 New York Mets - yes, an expansion team - at 120 losses, the most since 1899, Brett Ballantini and Melissa Sage-Bollenbach got together to assess our club, past, present and future. Reaction to the impossible happening: 120 losses. A shock, or long-anticipated? A rundown of the other milestones ahead: farthest out of first (56 1/2 games), worst ...
Visiting Dugout Episode 71 - San Diego Padres - 2024-09-19

As I write this blurb, the White Sox have won three games in a row. Maybe they've won two more before they make the trek south to San Diego. But we're putting the Angels in the rearview mirror for a few days. We'll miss Dylan Cease by a day, so breathe a sigh of relief. However, we'll also see what could've been with Fernando Tatís Jr. and Manny Machado. Remember when Rick thought it would be a...

Duty geezer Leigh Allan and his son and west coast correspondent, Will, naturally venture onto the subject of an article in The Athletic titled “The Owner Who Thinks He Knows Everything” (guess who), but first Will has a report on attending the White Sox game in Anaheim on Wednesday night (Loss 116). The report? How little the Sox even warm up on the field before a game compared to other teams....

Sweet story!
Really enjoying Di Billick’s articles (and videos). Thanks!
Thank you for the Barons coverage!
Tigers fan here. Great discussion and great show concept. Keep it up, see you next series.
I love this podcast
Good stuff
5:45 Skyline Chili is amazing, what are you talking about? 😜
That was great! Came here from your article to share the pain 🙏🏼
I would say it was a 9 on your embarrassment scale. With you raising it from 20 to 30, I feel like the average was a 9. Remember some people thought the team could potentially get to the playoffs.
so many of us felt the same. At South Side Sox our LOW pick for season wins was 75! We had folks picking in the 90s and playoffs, for sure.
Absolutely love this!!! ❤
I would say that the padres are far below the white Sox level considering how much money they have spent.
I think Shohei is going to the dodgers
Clevinger is decent at his job. A 3.72 era is pretty decent for a 5th starter. Also no one knows if he is truly an abuser. He has done better than Lance Lynn this season.
The Cubs manager David Ross isn’t the best Manager but he’s a thousand times better then Pedro Grifol. He is awful. He literally told one of his players not to play at level 10 but to play at level 8. That’s what the Sox need. 22 games under 500 and you want a player to play less hard. Sox are awful the manager is awful. The Sox suck so bad. This was your championship window and now it’s closed with 0 titles 0 league championship appearances. The Cubs won a World Series and made the NLCS 3 times in their window. The White Sox never made it out of the first round. The Sox suck. Go Cubs!!!
Go Cubs!! 65 to 70 percent of baseball fans in Chicago are Cubs fans. That’s why the only 2 sellouts all year according to your own Sox broadcast team of benetti and stone said that. More cubs fans then Sox fans at the game. I love watching Sox postgame after the Cubs kick the crap out of them. Now you have to sell hahaha. Even if we don’t make the playoffs it’s worth it. Sox suck. Cubs win!! Cubs win!! Go Cubs!!
Tina is delusional if she thinks the Cubs management is just as bad as the White Sox. The White Sox have the worst management and ownership in MLB and it’s not even close. Sox fans aren’t very smart.
You almost made it through that whole comment without any basic grammatical mistakes! Keep on trying, Bigj, and thank you for watching. And congrats on the big, two-game sweep.
Such a fun podcast! Congrats on joining in Shaun!

Kind of disrespectful to put the rookie ahead of Arraez who's hitting 400
Sorry you cried over Carlos Rodon, but the last thing they Sox needed was another super fragile ballplayer.
The Yankees deal was plum nuts, but if crying over losing Los for 18.4m when he was coming off of and about to put up 5+ WAR seasons, count the whole staff 100% weepy here. You should have been, too.
@@WhiteSoxPopuli I wasn't. He's not worth the risk. He has to be on the field to put up 5+ seasons.
Wow. If snark was poisonous, you wouldn't make it😂

Enjoyed, excellent job ladies.
I think this total failure can't be pinned on any one thing, it's coaching, scouting, top execs not being held accountable, it's a lack of modernizing the team with new ideas and technology
Typical SOX season so far. Lots of promise no delivery. Reinsdorf had the chance to really build this club during the off season . Yet he once again closed his wallet to real free agents. that could have built a winner.
no lies detected
The starting pitching has been much better than decent, so far
This is awesome!
OK, calling it before Opening Day even hits: Mailman Jack is become our favorite viewer of 2023.
cubs fan here who loves the show, keep it up!
very sweet, Lyle, thank you and we will try not to be too anti-north side. Will be tough come Crosstown!
cubs fan here who loves the show, keep it up!
The 10 inning rule only applies in pool play and not the single elimination games.
gotcha, thanks Sherman, figured that was the case

Clevinger definitely has the potential to be as good as Cueto. I like the acquisition.
Where is all the Steve Stone hate coming from? Not only is he not responsible for any of this, he has had the same criticisms that we have.
If Abreu loves Chicago. I don't see why he would rule it out.
Maybe we shouldn't be ageist against Ron Washington while simultaneously convicting him over an allegation.
There's no way that alomar refuses a managerial job from the white sox if he's offered one.
If Houston can get a good manager after that mess, they are plenty of qualified candidates who would want the job. I know Sandy Alomar Jr. wants it and Ron Washington would be a great pick also.
Instead of leaving, maybe you just ride it out and make your own pick next time.
You keep saying 10 years like we were supposed to win during that whole time. At least half of that was a rebuild, we weren't supposed to win during that time.
I disagree with the assessment that nothing's going to be done. I believe that this team is Just a few minor tweaks away from contending and I think that the Sox will look at this season and see the upcoming rule changes and do what is necessary to get back to the playoffs.
Your faith in the team is admirable, and we are due for a few good breaks, but Rick and the front office really haven't earned that faith. This was a major stumble taking the team to the next level and it's not a given they can course-correct. We all want that, though.
@@WhiteSoxPopuli True that it isn't a given but we have been this years Padres and now they're back in the playoffs. I believe we will have a similar turnaround.
21 games over 500 isn't close to 500.
It will take more than one underpeforming season to make me ashamed to be a fan. Of course I'm disappointed but a change in management is a first great step, we will definitely be better next year.
How long have you been a fan? Because there's been a lot more than one underperforming season.
@@horus30k 42 years and they're haven't been too many seasons where the expectations were high.
@@shermansmith8356 quite a few years where they over-promised and under-delivered. 2015-16 probably the most recent examples.
The padres are in danger of losing their playoff spot to the Brewers. I hope that they're eliminated because at least I wouldn't' t have far to go for a playoff game if the Brewers got
The Pollock move was a good one that didn't work out. By all previous indications he should've done better than he did.
I think Andrus will be back as our second baseman. Our outfield is mediocre but not terrible but we definitely need upgrades out there.
Hope he's highly sucessful. In fact he's winning at a .666 clip. 6/9. Hope Larussa doesnt come back.

Rename the Podcast "Da South Side Commies". With all this negativity about America 🇺🇸 I'm pretty sure you'll be better off living in China and I won't shut up and be quiet or take a break how about that.
You guys were at the game me too I was in row124 Z section and you guys are right the energy was low no hustle just negative vibes the Angels fans were great and " Fire Tony" could be heard from ChiSox fans including myself the only Highlight of the game was watching Shohei Ohtani pitch a gem.
