Girl....I love Cat Power, and your medley is so beautiful and passionate. This popped up in my suggested videos and it's interesting that we both have 36 subscribers and a mole in the same place (well-played, algorithm/universe, lol). I watched the Short Introduction video and good grief, I felt that. An "appreciation for absurdity" is what keeps me going (as well as music, dogs, and bowling). I'll check out the other videos too - now you have 37 subscribers😊. I need to get a keyboard - I have a piano but it's not very portable of course. What kind do you have? It sounds great, and has weighted keys, I believe, which is a non-negotiable feature if I'm going to invest in one. Thank you for existing.
Wow! Thanks so much for your kind and observant words! I am a big believer in reaching out and letting folks know when they do or say something we connect with, and I try to do the same, so your message means a lot!! <3 To answer your gear question: First off, let me acknowledge how deeply I feel the weighted-key struggle. I used to have a full 88-key stage piano, because it seemed like the only way to get weighted keys was to have something big and unwieldy. I finally gave up and sold that a couple years ago. Then for a brief time I fooled myself into thinking I could deal with a smaller, non-weighted keyboard as long as it had some touch sensitivity, but after about a month practicing on it, I decided it just wasn't happening. Ultimately I discovered the Roland RD-64, which miraculously has 64 *weighted* keys; but that appears to be a combo that is just not done anymore, as it has been discontinued and so is pretty rare/costly (but has been worth it for me, as I've now transported it myself for two live shows and it was totally low-maintenance). I got mine shipped from overseas. All THAT said 😅 the one I'm playing in this particular vid is actually my big-ass Yamaha S90-ES synth, which I leave in place and only use to record. I've kept it with me for close to 20 years at this point. I hope some of that saga is at least a little helpful, LOL.
