    With two shop vacs on series what is the increase in dB? Is it doubled? And, with the evacuation from a container test what is the air inlet size? If it is larger will the various suction configurations evacuate quicker? Thanks… good stuff!

    • @rightsidedownstudio
      @rightsidedownstudio День назад

      The dB does double but I just tested the DeWalt Sealthsonic and two of those would still be quieter than 1 normal vac. The size I test in the video is the standard 2.5 hose. I did test the duel vac connected the the 4" and there wasn't much of a difference. It actually was a bit slower. I'm assuming because each vac is still connected to a 2" that leads to the connection point then I added the 4" connector, so each vac is still restricted to 2" from the start and when the vacuum pressure hits the 4" it dissipates.

    Thanks for the video - I bought one right after watching. I am STUNNED with how quiet it is - I know I saw your testing, but you know how it is - seeing (and hearing) is really believing! Loving this nice upgrade and may replace my other Rigid units (which are fine, but so much louder)! I use a vac at each major station with dust separator rather than a whole shop rig, so this additional sound suppression is a big deal for me. Thanks again for the review! 👍👍👍

    Great video! I am deciding on what to use for a VERY small shop and 2.5" dust ports at most. I plan to use a shop vac, with cyclone, PVC connection to the table saw, a 3 port manifold - and the line runs will be 2ft max for table saw and router table. Everything else will be on a 10ft flex hose that I switch tools with. Hopefully that will work - and of course a respirator. Running 2 shop vacs and a table saw will draw so much power, I wont be able to afford exotic wood to turn in to saw dust. Your video re-assured me that what I am doing is appropriate for my situation. Thank you! - now subscribed - "Ribbed for her pleasure" was gold! LMAO!

    I have a dual VAC system right now and it works fairly well. I am planning on getting an air filtration system. Just reduce some of the dust that’s still left in my shop.

    • @rightsidedownstudio
      @rightsidedownstudio 12 дней назад

      The air filtration system was one of the best additions to my shop, I started off with just a box fan and a filter taped to it but upgrading to a ceiling hung one was worth it. I would suggest looking into building your own. The filters on the store bought ones are crazy expensive. I did a build in this video ruclips.net/video/bzn1N3Yu280/видео.html but there's also a lot of other great build videos out there.

    • @rightsidedownstudio
      @rightsidedownstudio 12 дней назад

      I would use a automatic vacuum switch and for the top plug where the vac goes to use a outlet extender so it could hold two plugs instead of the one.

    First time I watched one of your videos. This is a tough debatable subject. I see your idea. I watched many videos on this before switching to a dust collection system. I ended up going with the Harbor freight 2 hp one like the Wen you had on this video. For me my reasoning to do this is for several reasons. First I got tired of emptying the vacuum. Containment is very limited especially when using a big tool like a planer, jointer, or router. I wanted something with a bigger containment. Friction loss is higher in smaller hoses. Also the further or longer it is from any vac system your going to loose CFM’s. How much is depending on how many turns it takes throughout that journey from one end to the other. Something is better than nothing as for dust collection. The more you keep out your lungs the better. You also can see how much air those test pull from that smoke on the larger volume. If your pulling that much that fast that’s pulling the bad air away from your lungs before you get to breath that bad air. I have a very small shop and still use a shop vac with a small cyclone attached for sanding. I strongly recommend upgrading to a larger dust collection system as it will make your money back with the time you save on just emptying and cleaning the vacuum. A little advice on that Wen is that the harbor freight one is a bit cheaper when you catch it on sale. A little bit more powerful and already comes with a cyclone as that’s what the plastic bag is attached too. So just replace that bag with a plastic 55 gallon drum. You can go a longer time without emptying with it. Btw! I found your video both educational and funny. Well balanced video and have subscribed to watch some others.

    • @rightsidedownstudio
      @rightsidedownstudio 16 дней назад

      Thanks for the sub, and I agree it’s a debatable subject. But bottom line is it really depends on your set up and your needs. I want to show everyone as much as I can on the subject so everyone makes make the best decision for their set up. I do think if you have the money a larger LPHV is better because it can always scale up as your shop grows.

    Great experiment! I thought I was the only one wanting to put two or three shop vacs in // 😅 Have you considered the same 2 shop vac setup with a 4-inch hose? I’m considering so for my thickness planner which tends to clog my smaller hose.

    • @rightsidedownstudio
      @rightsidedownstudio 20 дней назад

      I did try that, it wasn't a big difference just a little less wind speed (which is good) the big problem is if you hook it up to a dust separator of even just to the vacuum it still has to get reduced to a 2" which will still clog.

  • @C-M-E
    @C-M-E 25 дней назад

    Volts x Amps/746 is how I shop for power tools, followed by capacity where applicable. It's still mind boggling how people expect to get 6hp of electrical power out of a standard wall outlet. I tell people about CFM calculations all the time too, especially when they're trying to plan for ventilation use for things like fume extractors. "Throw 60 feet of chutes and runners on that and see what happens." Never fails.

    • @rightsidedownstudio
      @rightsidedownstudio 23 дня назад

      when you start doing solid research like that on tools it will blow you away on what's actually good vs name brand hype.

  • @C-M-E
    @C-M-E 25 дней назад

    Now for something really wild, there's no actual suction going on with a vacuum source. It's a higher pressure pushing air into an induction of a low pressure area created by the fan. The more effective of a low pressure area you can create, the more readily higher atmospheric air with move to fill the volume.

    • @rightsidedownstudio
      @rightsidedownstudio 23 дня назад

      Really good point, do you think a venturi would increase flow as well?

    • @C-M-E
      @C-M-E 23 дня назад

      @@rightsidedownstudio I've experimented with that in the past, mostly with jet engines, but theoretically it would if shaped correctly. You'd lose some flow volume naturally on the exit but should see an increase in static pressure which typically happens after the higher velocity flow expands into the secondary chamber, like a volute or expansion chamber. I have a separate VFD simulator for pipes and venturis calculation somewhere. For the life of me, I can't remember what it's called, but I'll update this if I find it. Edit: That C shifted spots on my keyboard again. That should say 'CFD'. haha

    • @C-M-E
      @C-M-E 22 дня назад

      @@rightsidedownstudio Not sure if you get direct replies, but we'll see. Took me quite the while to find it as I had to do some updates, but the free version of SimFlow using the OpenFOAM library was the software package I was looking for. It's best served creating your geometry in a CAD program with accurately sized geometry models for testing, but once you get the hang of it, it's a beautiful thing. Not quite as speedy as some of the solutions available in newer software like Solidworks or SolidEdge, but it's very good for being a free version integration of open sourced libraries and there's lots of tutorials to help you learn. I last used it round about 2017/18 and it was reasonably clunky, but this new version looks and functions like industrial quality.

    I have two Ridgid Smart pulse shop vacs that I keep on my shop floor. One is over 6 years old and gets used almost daily picking up dust from sanding and cutting of wood and metals as well as general cleaning . The filters I change at most once a year. I think I have gone more than 2 years without replacing the filter during covid when we were shut down for a while. They by far are the best vacuums I have ever used. You just have to nock the filters every once and a while to avoid any excess build up in the folds. Also they are assembled in USA.

    There is no way a vacuum can be the best ever if it does two things. Plugs in a wall, and uses bags. End of story. It may be a good vacuum, but cords and bags are the bane of ever shop owner on the planet.

    • @rightsidedownstudio
      @rightsidedownstudio 26 дней назад

      how many things do you want it to do? Vacuums really only do two things, plug in a wall and suck. It does both of those really well. I agree bags are annoying but most wood workers (which is the vast majority of my audience) use dust separators so the bags never really come into play. I just found it nice that they included them.

    1:10 yes you are correct. It's the same in electricity. You need thicker gauge wire to run hotter currents. Use WIDER ducts for those longer runs. (now whether it tapers off to a "normal size" at each end if it makes the wider ducts in the middle moot... I'm not sure. I just know longer runs of anything, whether it's water pipes, electrical wires, or in this case air... you need WIDER. Try an experiment with sucking water through a straw: add a bunch more straws together and see how much harder it is to suck the water through) [I thought about it a little more: it wont matter the size of the tube from each vacuum, normal vacuum size... then it goes to a wider tube/duct and you're all good... BUT it's if you go BACK DOWN in size you'll get restriction and loss of air flow. Like an hourglass only so much sand will be able to go through it at once... but make the middle part of the hourglass wider and more sand falls through. In other words : Go wider as you come out of each vacuum, but you wont be able to step that back down without losing airflow.]

    I got this a while ago. You can swap out the casters for better quality ones and you'll be even happier with them. My one complaint is that there's no swivel on the end of those hose. Since it's so short and rigid, that makes it a bit annoying to get in small spots.

    So many tool companies over the past 50 years have ignored their customer base and the chickens are starting to come home. Ridgid was considered to be the go to king of shop vacs. However, the other companies are coming on strong with competition, which benefits the consumer. Yet, brand loyalty is still so strong and the tool companies are hoping to brainwash their base into believing “theirs” is the best, no matter the cost. My suggestion for DeWalt with this vacuum…take it to the next level and introduce a battery/corded model.
