Honda HRN216VKA (21") 166cc 3-in-1 Self Propelled Lawn Mower Review and Setup
Просмотров 68 тыс.4 года назад
Review of the Honda HRN216VKA (21") 166cc 3-in-1 Self Propelled Lawn Mower. Tips on how to setup and start the lawn mower.
I have the HRN216VAA
Price do went up , since you bought yours, I paid $549 plus tax. You got a bargain back then when you bought yours.
Is this one of the 391,800 mowers that are being recalled?
Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.
Bag falls off on right side very frustrating
were you happy with the mulch or did it thatch?
When I waited untill the grass grew about 2 inches (or more) over the level I wamted, it would thatch. I then started to cut more frequently,, sometimes 2 times a week, and it worked a lot better. I am still evaluating how well it works over a complete season. Although this does require more work, and I periodically (once a month) will bag it.
These suckers are $550 now!
1:35 that's the exhaust
Just picked it up from Lowes a few weeks ago. I used it for a couple grass-cutting rounds. It worked well most of the time until just a few days ago when I noticed rust on the drive axel. I might have to return it and get my money back. If you have any ideas on how o can get rid of the rust, please reply. They said we get 6 months to return it and I only got a few days until I hit that so I am going to head to Lowes in a few days unless you have an idea on how to get rid of the rust on the drive axel. Thank you, Sean! Also, I mow 10 times a day.
Mr. Ali, You can use a rust spray and clean it off. But it will come back. Probably won't rust enough to make it fail , at least from what I can tell from mine.
@@shahidnasim1 Thank you for the information. I just sprayed the spray into the drive axel and it doesn’t get rust anymore.
Air filter and points to Exhaust
Correct on that mistake.
The Manual latterly says to put the whole bottle in
Seems like a mystery.
How did this lawn mower work after a year?
It worked nicely. Just don’t try to mow over big rocks. I’ve had mine for 2 years and it is still working.
Nice review of this nice lawnmower!
Is it normal for it to make a clicking sound when walking it with the engine off?
No, there should not be any clicking noise. You should not hear anything clicking from the axel. I guess maybe you can try tilting each side and see which wheel makes noise when spinning (one by one).
Got this mower with the Blade stop option, blade stop takes a little getting used to, but no complaints so far. Cant wait to mow the lawn again.
I hope you put the full bottle in brother
Yes, it took the full bottle.
Just ran over a metal pipe, and the it caused the airfilter to "blow off" when the blades immediately stopped (like a monstrous backfire). Now the motor runs like it's on overdrive - almost like it has no governer and it sucks gas like no tomorrow. The governer and carb seemed to check out - must be something in the engine. Guess i'm going to buy another one. Funny thing is that Lowes had it for different prices depending on the store I go to in northern Va. Ranges from $469 - $569.
Not me being in Northern VA having just bought this and paid more than you said it was in the video 😭😭
@@laurengallagher9826 saw $469 at Home Depot last week. Although some folks are able to use military discounts and get it for about $440-ish after tax.
Well mine didn’t even last two years. Pitiful
I did that start up before reading the manual. Didn’t let it warm up (3min) and it wouldn’t start for a while
Got this model from Home Depot yesterday. Unboxing was easy but the mulching bag assembly was pretty tough but I got it setup in less than 15 minutes. Hoping for a good product out of it in coming months, can’t use it before late April (Michigan 🙄) 😊
Still happy?
You not wrong about the speed of the self drive. I use roller skates with mine
How do u change the oil
Just take off the oil cap and tilt the mower (in my case will be to tilt right) until oil starts falling out. It is not like a car which has a separate drain plug/hole. Have a drain pan ready to catch the oil. This Honda is nice because it's on the opposite side of the gas tank. When enough has come out, just refill.
Can this be pushed manually, without engaging the self-propel feature?
Yes You push the lever forward. I have one
So yes you don’t have to push it
Use good quality of fuel without ethanol
In the older models you had a plug n the ear to mulch.
My new Honda is now doing the surging thing, if Honda is the best mower then why can't they seem to correct this problem.
Today, I paid $419 at Lowes. Thanks for the vid.
I got mine today.. How are you liking it.. Its good I hope.. Paid the same at the orange box store
@@bigmikebjsr So far so good.
You're lucky! Only saw it at Home Depot and it's now over $100 more!
Just ordered one yesterday and with a discount, it was 549 bucks...what a difference a few years makes 😫😫
Good review. Just got one today
Let us know how you like it, or if you notice issues. Much appreciated.
I bought the Lows $279 Craftsman with the Briggs and Stratton motor and what a huge POS. ALWAYS dies like 20 times while mowing.I've had it just about 1 year. Garbage. Just ordered this one. Waiting on delivery.
@@cedricwilliams6229 raise ur wheels
@@meuhey nope. My new Honda mower mows even lower to the ground and doesn't die.
@@meuhey The Honda did die a bit at first but not anymore
I wish I would of returned this mower before the 30 day return policy, I absolutely cannot stand the garbage smart drive handle.
wow, you must be a guy that never had honda before. its amazing isn't it? toro, yardmachine, craftsman, murray will mess you up.ITS HONDA DUDE ITS STANDARD.
Correct. My first Honda, cause always lived on a small home. Definitely worth paying the extra money (which wasn't that much more) for this one, and all the features you get.
Early in the video you pointed to the muffler and called it an air filter. Later you were on the other side of the mower and correctly identified the air cleaner. Just pointing that out for someone about to check the air filter.
What is the difference between the HRN216VKA and HRN216VKAA?
I am not familiar with the ..VKAA version. Where did you see that model number?
@@shahidnasim1 Home Depot
I believe the HRN216VKAA is the 2021 version vs the 2020 but there is no real difference between them.
@@franksmith1705 I believe that is true
The next to last letter on one is an A and the next to last letter in the other is a K… Hope that helped 👍🏻
What kind of gas
Honda engines are designed and certified to run on regular unleaded gasoline. I always use regular (89), as there is no need to use premium.
@@shahidnasim1 so I just go to the gas station and get regular?
@@freeelo9799 yes
Dose it only drive forward or dose it go in reverse to or is that asking too match of it
Drives forward only, variable speed when pushing down on the drive control.
It says on the yellow tag. Use the whole bottle of oil that came with it
how much gas does it take to fill up the tank?
0.25 gal to fill up the tank.
It's nice it has a striping flap
The fuel shut off sold me on it
You'll need that; A carb clean will be needed often with this ol boy.
and they weigh a ton way too heavy
Shut up ted
@@carguy... junk in my book i would never own another one
The weight helps with the self propulsion.. The downward force from the weight of the machine helps the wheels get traction. 🤨🙄
i would never own another one way too problematic and developed an oil leak towards the end and finally blew up
Wow, how long did it take to have oil start to leak?
What do you recommend?
Sean, when cutting yard, mower sounded like it was coming apart! Blades had stuffed the plastic to metal overlay, under mulch control lever. Plastic bulged out allowing blades to strike plastic. This could have been avoided if honda reversed the overlay, plastic outside the metal deck. Also worst design ever where top of bag latches on grass stuffed plastic latch rail on the top of mower deck. Metal deck is also corroding under metal deck in first 8 months of ownership. I feel that in 10 years this mower will follow my old cheaper "chonda" troy bilt...
Interesting to hear. I haven't had problems with the blade, but do acknowledge that there is corrosion forming on a bar towards the rear. I will check the entire bottom for more corrosion and reply.
Thanks, for that info. Just purchased one today. Can't wait to see reviews are Great!
Happy?
Would this be a good lawnmower to start with if you wanna start a lawn care business?
It's a good lawn mower, and dependable. Good for large lawns because it pulls better and faster. Although consider that if you are going to mulch a lot, you have to maintain both cutting blades. If the lawn is tall, past 5 inches you will have to keep lifting it up to let the cut grass out of the bottom, cause it will bog down. I think most people buy cheap snapper mowers, but really this wasn't much more.
The HRX was recommended for commercial by Honda than the HRN model
Thanks for watching. 3 months into it, used it about once every 2 weeks. Noticed the drive axel is covered in rust. Don't think it's a big issue, but wanted to get that out there. I'd add a picture, but appears can't do that in youtube comments.
You only mow once every 2 weeks....WTF
@@carguy... why is that strange? I do the same unless it's raining a lot and grows long enough.
@@chilixi and your lawn looks like shit I'm sure, but probably not in your eye's.
It's actually 166 cc displacement.
You are absolutely correct on that. Thanks, I edited the title.
@@shahidnasim1 But Honda calls it the GCV170, so it's confusing. Either way.....thanks for the review, Sean. I can't wait to get this mower!
Um… It’s actually a 166.3 cc displacement engine if we are being technically nit picky.🙄
Good job man
You are so good N N
It would be nice to demonstrate the variable speed transmission in action. You might need somebody else to hold your camera
Do you know where I can buy the bag? I checked the Honda website but doesn’t sell them
Buy a bag of what?
@Pika Vargas, call a Honda dealer with your model and serial number and they should be able to find what part number your bag is.
Bag sucks
Good job
