Flipping an old pharmacy counter into my dream kitchen island
I knew I wanted a statement piece for a unique kitchen island and took months to find it on marketplace after searching for antique store counters and pharmacy tables
I bought the counter in June 2021 and most recent clip is from December 2022. Total project took over a year by the time I chose a countertop. You can’t rush perfection!

The best way to remove paint on brick inside + Testing different methods for taking paint off brick
Просмотров 45 тыс.2 года назад
I tested a combination of different methods for removing paint from our brick fireplace - spray CitriStrip, paint on CitriStrip, drill brushes, plastic and metal brushes, rubbing alcohol. My favorite method was to use a combination of CitriStrip and a wire brush dipped in water to help the paint ball up and fall off. In this video I show my different tactics and show how to use my favorite meth...

I personally hate the places where you walk in and get blinded. If even some darker tones were added, I would love it, but white is just intimidating now.

you should take this down, someone might follow your lead and do the same thing with a wire wheel and not use saftey googles and have hair down. the agony of sitting with your eye pried open while your head is strapped to a table not being able to move or blink while a doctor comes in with a small drill to remove a piece of wire and not knowing if you will lose that eye or not, is NOT something you want to live trough. and no they dont put you to sleep during the procedure. i wish you the best girl.

Thanks so much for this video. I have a painted brick fireplace, which will stay painted - too much work to remove. However, while I was washing the painted brick on the hearth with soap and water, the paint peeled right up. It had not stuck well to the smooth brick on the hearth. The problem was the paint did stick to the mortar. I was easily able to remove the paint on the mortar using liquid CitriStrip, a wire brush, and water with a toothbrush to get the remains. Now to repaint the fireplace with something that goes better with the newly uncovered cool hearth brick.

It is hard to imagine any mason recommending scouring your exterior brickwork with metal brushes, disc sanding, etc. Brick has a face to it, and if you ruin that, it will start to absorb water and crumble. You should never use power tools, wire brushes, or pressure washers on brick. You can cause serious damage with this approach. Basically it sounds like you needed a stronger formulation of the stripper. The main ingredient of Citristrip is N-METHYL-2-PYRROLIDONE. The formula for stripping wood is weaker than what is used to strip paint from masonry--ie 25 vs 35% in the latter. You also need to allow the product time to do its job, and if it requires the help of a metal brush it is the wrong product.

Great job! For the next time you can use a putty knife to scrape the first layer off. After that use the wire brush. Clean with a pressure washer (if possible, otherwise rinse with a scrub pad) and go again.

To answer to another comment of which she said; "Who paints brick?!" ANSWER: IDIOTS! That is who paints brick. No matter how old, the color of brick is far more beautiful. Brick was NEVER intended to be painted and it infuriates me that these younger generations have destroyed millions of old houses and retail in cities across the land that was GIVEN to them, to respect, not destroy. Life is NOT gray, white, and black. Life is full of beautiful colors that come from God's beautifully created nature! You people would know this if you had not been raised on electronics pushing buttons but rather developing into human beings by interacting with human beings. The human race ended in 1980. Those of us born before 1972, grew up with humans. I'm in my mid 60's and I remember when there was quality of life. We were not one big corporate monopoly, we were a world of small businesses, and you dealt with the owners who cared about their reputation, not some idiot in a call center in another country who doesn't speak English! DON'T PAINT BRICK! ....STOP PAINTING THE WORLD IN BLACK, WHITE AND GRAY!
