Glad to see you guys include the Carp into your Hiroshima experience. To further tie up the theme of this video, the Carp was really founded as a beacon of hope for a rebuilding Hiroshima (hosting a pro baseball team were often reserved for the biggest of urban centers like Tokyo, Osaka/Kobe and Nagoya). The carp fish, as in the nickname, represents resilience through immense adversity in ancient oriental lore. The local fanbase stuck with them through thick and thin, through early years of poor performance, being on the brink of dissolution when the league shrank, back-to-back championships in the 80s, and overall being a poor team that can't keep star players in free agency. Considering the rest of pro baseball in Asia consists of teams that either relocate on the whim of owning conglomerates, or just have their local identity come second to ownership when addressed in short or represented in media, the Hiroshima Carp is often considered the only truly local team in Asian pro baseball.
