Thanks. Great info in simple terms.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hello Austin and thank you for this video. Can you still use a limiter when you're playing back a church service on a home PA system? Sometimes a preacher will shout loudly and then the next minute he's almost whispering. Does a limiter address that type of situation? Again, this will be just playing back audio on/through a PA system. Thanks.
A limiter will help for sure! Just set ratio to infinity and dial up the gain
@@austinharmanmixes Ok thank you. Now I need to start looking at different kinds of limiters.
Your console should have one on it
I have the DOD 822-RM 8 channel mixer that was given to me in 2018 or 2019 from a small church when they upgraded. It's probably time for me to upgrade Lol.@@austinharmanmixes

Hi. Can you please make a video tutorial this time for instruments compression.
Yes I can! Don’t miss my processing cheat sheets on my Patreon, which covers drum and vocal processing. www.patreon.com/AustinHarmanMixes?
that side chain eq isn't doing anything. you already have a high pass on the channel above that point.
That may be the case, but I find that using the side chain filter can be helpful anyway, because the HPF isn’t a perfect roll off.
great
Thank you!

thank you sir , so good a video , do you have any experiences with head mic's ,there no many videos about live and head mic's eq ,comp , etc , and more and more vocalist are using them , thanks
Happy to make one for you
@@austinharmanmixes sounds great thanks , how would we do it. .? Thanks for your help

Useful explanation !❤ But please, next time, ask the people in the background to be quiet… it’s really annoying.😬
Thanks for the feedback!
The video production on this is horrendous! You better not be paying for it
🤩🤩🤩
Nice video. What do you think of the Behringer P1 and P2? Thanks.
Thanks! TBH I’m not a fan of behringer anything but for the price, it’s hard to beat.
dude just put a gate on your mic it's so damn noisy, i would expect better audio from an 'audio engineer'. i'm stopping the video cause it's too annoying
Thanks for the feedback. We are working on a fix.
what was the high pass set at... i gather around 90?
Great question. Set your high pass where the lows stop sounding muddy to you. It is different in each situation
@@austinharmanmixes thank you

Thanks for the tips! Im intrigued by multiband compression on the master bus. Do you have any videos that go into detail on that subject? Cheers!

Do you have 3way monitors
Hey Great Question. Those are in our pipeline and are coming later this year!

THX for posting
You bet. Hope it was helpful for you.
I’m lead guitarist in a couple of bands and do our FOH and IEM sound from the stage. This is a challenge obviously- do you have any advice for this scenario? Loving your content :-)
Hey that’s awesome. Thanks for asking. I would be honest and say your experience on guitar will feed into being an exceptional FOH or mon engineer. Anyone who is successful becomes laser focused on one thing and they do it for a long time. I imagine you’re probably gigging and don’t have the luxury of having a dedicated sound person, and if that is the case, I would focus on trying to be able to listen to what is coming out of the speakers via headphones or similar to be able to get a good idea of what is happening in the house. The setup is not ideal, but if you have to make do…
@@austinharmanmixes that's kind of you to get back to me so quickly - yes I've got about 26 gigs this year between the two bands. Using IEM has been a game changer in terms of my own performance and hearing protection but less useful for hearing what is going FOH. I'm devouring all the info I can find online - yours particularly helpful and I will continue to watch your channel with great interest. Keep up the good work!
I will have a look to see if I can create a separate (matrix mix perhaps) feed for my IEM and see if I can switch between the two - I'm using a sound craft UI24r
@@TheDrfireball you can do that for sure. Do a matrix with the stereo bus as the send; route the matrix to the stage box. Then plug that output into a box like this- a.co/d/4WN30Q9 Then just use female to males to reverse the gender
@@austinharmanmixes that's fantastic - do you know if something similar in stereo is available as I'm using stereo IEM?
Do you have all channels routed through the ssl for mastering compression? Or where are you using the ssl bc I don't see it in your vocal chain.
Hey great question- I use SSL on master bus and snare. Also my vocal group sometimes uses ssl comp as well. (Not shown here)
The way you describe the differences between compression for live sound and the studio makes me think that we need to compress differently for the live sound and the live stream or recording, which is pretty hard to accomplish with most sound boards by themselves.
I do think this is the case. Multiple layers of simultaneous compression may be needed.
