The Grand Burstin stands on the sight of the Royal Pavilion Hotel (a small part of it remains behind) which was a real Grand Hotel in the day Folkestone served foot passengers. The harbour was owned by British Rail and it was only in the 60'd they put in the ramp for the ro-ro ferries Hengist and Horsa - BR were paying a fortune to Dover Harbour for docking rights....

In Gothenburg we have "Älvsnabben", which is a similar tour, with slighty smaller ferrys. You can go from the city centre to Klippan by Älvsborgsbron, for the same fee as travelling by tram.

Alfred Nobel was indeed Swedish, but in his time Norway was in a union with Sweden and thus he decided that the Norwegians would take care of the Peace prize. All the other Nobel prizes are awarded in Stockholm.

Thank you for this. It brings back SOOOOOOO many memories. Grabbing the Trik from Haslum to Oslo. A trip to the bookstore, off of Karl Johans Gate and then lunch at Pepe's or a grabbing a lumpa at the stand near the City Hall. Oh and the bakery near the corner of KJG and Orve Slotte, ooohh soo good. Then the "arcade" it was 4 video machines at the top of the opposite street of KJG near the theatre. At Holmenkolen we watched the '84 jump competition only to watch a Fin just biff it 20m off of the jump. A Finish fan ran out onto the slope made sure he was ok and then handed him a shot of "something" and scampered back to the stands. He got a talking to, but was allowed to remain. There used to be a great shop off of Orve Slottes gate that had the sweaters and weren't at "tourist" prices. There also used to be a hobby shop off of Prinsens gate. You could get a Marklin railroad train car for less than $3. When the McDonalds opened in '84 we of course hit it. It was ok. But honestly there used to a "British" pub/resturant out near Majorstuen that was great. And honestly was the perfect place to introduce American kids to European cuisine.

Pluckley Railway Station also has a ghost story, in the kitchen area of the station there is a bench and people I have met (during my long railway career) have told me that on this bench, a lady dressed in Victorian clothing has been seen by several members of staff that I personally know...and they were quite certain that they have seen the lady, Pluckley station is, I think the oldest wooden built railway station in England, possibly the world dating from the 1840's

Thanks for this video. It is really nice to see a heritage railway and a nature area in one. The EWS locomotive is a Class 08 switcher/shunter. The grey locomotive next to this one is a Class 73 electro-diesel locomotive with a special coupling gear as it was designed to pull Eurostar trains and shunt them around the Eurostar North Pole depot in West London. Hope this helps and I really enjoyed the video.

It's pronounced "Betts- Hanger" and the collieries were Tilmanstone, and Snowdown near to where you were. Betteshanger was on the Deal side, and coal was exported via Sandwich , a series of buckets on overhead wire system ferried coal all over.

I missed that one (I must do more research). I find churches fascinating. I still have to do the one in the village, but I have been too busy with other things. A very nice little video, St Clements church is a 15 minute walk across the fields ( footpaths ) from our front door. The upper pews in the church is the west gallery and this is where West Gallery music was sung. My wife’s ancestor wrote and taught this type of church music across Romney Marsh. Best wishes.

Yes. I remember Derek Jarman. Used to see him on the telly quite a bit. I also remember watching Dr Syn. Boxed pews are fairly common but it's nice to see a very old church that hasn't be ruined by the Victorians obsession with tarting things up.

Wow! That church is a treasure. So surprised that you were able to enter, these days most churches are sadly locked due to thieving etc.

Many years ago when I was working for a living I had a good friend who first introduced me to the world of stills photography, at this time we all of course used Film Cameras, I used a Olympus OM10/OM4, and he used Canon AE1/A1 Cameras which gave excellent results, but to get these results you had to process the Films yourself and not everyone had the space to do this as at the time the procedure was very tiresome and took a lot of time, hence the demise of Film for Digital and at this time we Photographed Saint Clement Church and inside the Church in a Window alcove propped up on its stand was a very beautiful and very old Violin, which I believe was stolen at a later date, now I'm going back decades, and M/s Jarman lived at Dungeness in the Black House as It was formerly known, from where he sadly died, great video more like this please most enjoyable, regards, Colin.

I lived in Pluckley from 1963 to 1968 aged 11 to 16, i used to walk round the village at night coming back from friends and i never saw or heard anything at all.

Both the newspaper stories are quite recent hoaxes. The pipes in the brickworks were burning off methane gas from the tip - for industrial and then household waste - that filled in the clay quarries. Otium Lake houses are built on land that has cadmium and lead in from the old Ashford Railway Works that got dumped in the unlined pit. Hope none of them have veggie patches.

Hello Tudor. May I firstly say that I enjoyed your video - I've not been up to Whitechapel now for almost 10 years and things change at an exraordinary speed. But, being a "student" of the ripper murders, way back then I did a lot of my own investigations of the original scenes just out of a long standing interest in the story. I believe in the canonical five, and anything else is "just" the Whitechapel murders, and I'll make a few observations here as I go along. You missed a very important location - the corner of Commercial Street and Thrawl Street. In 1888 it was the Queen's Head pub. It was there that George Hutchinson saw Marie Kelly meet the man who was probably Jack. For years, the site was the "Bank of Bilbao", but in 2016, it was being demolished/renovated/who knows, and the Queens Head sign was briefly visible again. Somewhere on the internet (there are so many JtR sites and in this case, I just couldn't find it again) there is a total comprehensive demolishment of the case against Kosminski, which of course was ludicrous from the start, as was the fatuous TV special with the actress from "Silent Witness" and some self important professional pundit. As is the totally absurd premise of Charles Cross/Lechmere. Watch the TV show with some Scandinavian "Expert" and you can almost hear his ridiculous therories crashing to the ground. It's total nonsense. Now, I'm not about to advance any theories, I'm just suggesting alternatives, and I'm not about to put anyone in the frame, but I suggest you have a look at two books: 1:Jack The Ripper;s Black Magic Rituals - Hold on! Before you switch off, this is a book by a crackpot, but he has a point: Consider this (and I'm not about to go trawling through all my books, so I may have some facts wrong here), but; Long Liz was reportedly seen over a considerable period of time around the area of Dutsfield Yard. The descriptions of the man she was seen with and indeed her vary, but in the meantime, Catherine Eddowes gave her name to the police when she was arrested as "Mary Kelly" Eddowes was to be released at about 1am - if "Jack" was waiting for "Mary Kelly" to be released and wanted to be rid of Long Liz, then he had to wait until "Mary" if that's who he was looking for was back on the street before he could despatch Long Liz. Just as he was about to, Israel Schwartz happened by and saw a man throw a woman to the ground in Dutsfield yard. There was a man watching opposite...Are there two people responsible? Meanwhile, "Jack", knowing that "Mary Kelly" has been released, goes looking for her (I think you have your times wrong in you your video but no mind) and kills her horrifically. He has now done his job. BUT, he's got the wrong Mary Kelly. Get a map, pinpoint the sites of these four murders, and you will find a perfect diamond shape pointing at Mitre Square. This is not random killings by Kosminski, Lechmere or anyone else. And it's not copycat killers.Tell me I'm wrong... Finally, look for a book called "The Jack the Ripper location photographs - by Philip Hutchinson. Not a JtR book, but an amazing detective work which finds an actual photo of Dutfield's Yard, and evidence of the first ever Ripper tourist All the best from Peter
