Metro Awakening VR - Playthrough Part 01 | Prologue, Chapters 1 & 2 | PSVRV2
This is part 01 of a playthrough of Metro Awakening VR on the PSVR2.
The Metro franchise is based on the book Metro 2033 by author Dmitry Glukhovsky, set in a post-apocalyptic world where people have taken shelter from nuclear fallout in the Moscow Metro system. There, they face hostile groups including mutants and other humans.
This will be a blind playthrough. I don't know much about this game other than it got great reviews and it was nominated for 2024 VR Game of the Year (ultimately losing to Batman: Arkham Shadow). This will not be a complete walkthrough to 100% but instead will focus solely on the story progression, with occasional stops to pick up items along the way.

Gameplay notes and playthrough of the December 12, 2024 patch to Skydance's Behemoth. The patch notes at the beginning of the video come from the developer's Discord channel. There are notes for the Quest, PSVR2 (well, a note), and then for all platforms. I'll read through highlights of each of these in the video. Then I'll highlight some of my own bugs that I encountered during my playthrough....

@ Thank you bro! I thought it was bugged because he would just stand there and not say anything!
on meta pc app the game doesnt have blood on the player and im pretty sure it is a thing on quest i hope they fix that
thanks for the video man
I don’t know why it always stuck at 5.5gbs while downloading please suggest me something
You mean the patch won't download? Sorry but I don't know the answer to that. You could join the devs Discord and try asking them on the bug report channel: discord.gg/skydanceinteractive
From my memory on the quest version walking like 5 meters away from the forge gives you back your weapon
Weirdly the quest version seems to have less bugs
@trille_boi Ironic considering this patch mostly seemed to address Quest issues. Did you notice many differences before and after the patch on the Quest?
@parrydogsickle no not really its allways been a smooth non janky experience but the only jank ive experienced is noclipping into one of the behemoths once and very impressive graphics on quest i have a yt short on my channel that shows the graphics on quest
The patch resolved the bulk of the issues I had with combat. It's still pretty sloppy at times but man, when this game is good it's really good. I hope Skydance continues to clean things up. Also, awesome video. I think it's really valuable to document updates to VR games on YT, so many reviews are outdated within weeks of VR games launching. I try to do that for PSVR2 games on my channel.
Agreed with your comments, and thanks for the kind words. Subbed to your channel. I know it's tough being a small RUclipsr, especially in a niche like VR. Hope it helps to keep you going. 🙂
i just bought it i cant wait to play it😊
I played about 2 hours last night on PSVR2 and I only stopped because I was too tired. The combat fixes and balancing has elevated the game to an instant classic in my mind. Anyone with an interest in VR needs to play this right now.
What makes it good to you
Legend, been sitting on fence for this one in quest
Hey man! Nice to see you again and thanks for watching. If you do play on Quest please lemme know what you think. I'm curious about the version differences.
Congratulations on the video, great work commenting on many points of the update. I'm Brazilian and I couldn't find this type of content in Portuguese, fortunately I found your channel and this recently released video.

for myself q3 all day i got the pcvr2 just to try on pc but disliked nearly everything compared to the q3 in either wired or wireless psvr2 i hated the mura, found it slightly blurrier due to lower rez , image smearing and dont like frenel lenses these days either. also being stuck with a wire and not beingbable to take itvwith you anywhwere also sucks as standalone comea in handy
Gotta admit, Vader Immortal in a PSVR2 looks so good with the deep blacks and vivid colors. So immersive.
Why no mention of mura and shallow sweet spot on the psvr2. I'm thinking of selling it because of this.
@@skullmurdoc the very limited sweet spot is killing me. I have to constantly adjust the headset so I see a clear image. I don’t have to do that on my quest. It sucks coz the colors and blacks are definitely better.
@@normanq1206You may want to try the Globular Cluster. I've heard that helps to find a more consistent sweet spot on the PSVR2. However, I think the pancake lenses on the Quest 3 just result in overall better image clarity than the PSVR2's fresnel lenses.
@@parrydogsickleya I may have to return the PSVR 2 and look for a used Q3 128 gb. I only really play PCVR games. I love the colors and deep blacks of the PSVR2 but the clarity is lacking.
I definitely notice the compression on my Q2 even with a Link cable, but can you see the effects of compression in a Q3? That's what I want to know.
Personally, I haven't noticed it that much but I have WiFi 6 with a dedicated router connected to my PC via ethernet cable. Someone below said without that the wireless experience will be worse. Even wired, other variables might affect it like GPU, game being played, connection method, etc. I will say that while it hasn't been noticeable enough to bother me that I have heard other people complain about it which is why I mentioned it. Likewise, other people have said that visually lossless compression on the DisplayPort is the reason they bought the PSVR2 (that's also the top comment on this vid).
I got PSVR2 running on my PC and it’s much better than the Quest 3 in every aspect! And there’s no cable mess! Just one cable connect to the adapter and that’s it…and can hide the adapter easily.
Are y’all playing in a hotel?
@@Alisterbv Yes sir lol
@ oh that’s cool I also played in a hotel the first time I got my quest 2 😄
Awesome video! I need to go back and finish the Arkham series. This looks like the most likely game so far to get me into the VR world!
@@GhostRiposte Thanks! Yeah I think this game will get a lot of new people into VR, especially since it's free with the purchase of a Quest 3 / 3S until April 30, 2025.
absolutely legend right here 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Batmans secret power? Infinite stamina
@@oRealAlieNo 😂 😂 😂 Wish I had that same superpower when playing the game!
now try lone echo 1-2
Now try blade and sorcery nomad 1.0
@@GhostofTheWoke It's on the list! VR games got back loaded this year, bunch of good ones coming out I wanna play.
@parrydogsickle if you haven't played blade and sorcery you have no right to talk about vr combat lol but seriously absurdly good game even before the update i havent played batman in a few day because of 1.0 blade and sorcery seriusly great game worth every penny
@parrydogsickle pls try blade and sorcery before other games as it has what i feel to be what should be the standard for vr combat
@@GhostofTheWoke Haha you've convinced me and I promise you I'll try it on your recommendation! Do you play the PCVR or Quest version?
@parrydogsickle i play the quest version on quest 3 used to play on quest 2 sadly never had the chance to play the pcvr version
finishing this game made me end up with sore muscles, haven't felt that from other game as I don't vr much and mostly play shooters. masterpiece indeed.
@@KP-48-007 haha yeah this game definitely requires some physical exertion.
I highly recommend Asgard's Wrath 2 as well and Behemoth is incoming. Skyrim was my original introduction to VR melee, tho vanilla is very basic VR, better modded.
@VRnamek unfortunately AW2 looks awful very pixelated and low poly, very slow paced. Didn't play much but liked the puzzle side and combat, got that game for free with quest 3 preorder and might come back to it.
What a time to be alive.
Pressing buttons is a thing from the past
@@ZFCaio when I play flatscreen games now I often find myself saying "man this would be so much better in VR."
You need to press the buttons on the quest just to do anything
@@Hybrid225nope, I actually punch, climb, grab stuff, throw batrangs, smoke bombs, grab them by the neck and swing until they pass out. Oh, sure: we push the trigger/grab "buttons". But that's no different than pushing your fingers against the surfaces you're grabbing in game. Point is: VR is immersion, you physically perform the actions, it's not about pushing a button and watching an animation playing out...
Get yourself some full body trackers and a VR treadmill. It’s even better.
Would love to try that eventually! BTW your comment appears to be hidden and I can't figure out how to unhide it. Looks like RUclips is making the comment only visible to me and idk why. Anyway, sorry about that.
@ it’s cool it happens
World of a difference between flat to VR
good video
Good video, I was also very surprised how well the vr version translated from the flatscreen version. It feels very much like Arkham Asylum in many ways - which is a good thing.
Could you maybe please help me with some souls and items??
Marry me kiss me do everything with me (ayo) ure the best i did it i finaly got the bloodhound step!!!!
This is also my favorite game of all time. I'm 42 now and i played it for the first time when i was 15 or 16. It was also my first final fantasy game and it was a truly magical experience. I have replayed it countless times since then and it has a special place in my heart
Very interesting video, deserves to get some serious views and i hope it does, but 'the first open world?' Brother does this show how young you are. You really should have said 'in a JRPG' because I grew up in an era of nothing BUT open-world CRPGs. Ultima III on the Commodore 64 was my Final Fantasy VI, complete with a genre-changing musical soundtrack, the notes of which are burned into my brain to this day. Ken Arnold's overworld theme evokes somber exploration to me like 'Terra's Theme' on the FFVI soundtrack does for you. (Btw that opera music was absolutely unreal, blew my mind when I heard the SNES pull it out, same with Terra's horrified shriek when she discovers what she really is.) But back to my point, open worlds where YOU are the hero and YOU write the story were hallmarks of the RPG genre in computers in the west and the early JRPGs that aped those Western games popular in Japan like Wizardry. It's really during the time of the first Final Fantasys and Dragon Warriors that storytelling became baked into the genre, splitting JRPGs and CRPGs for good, though both genres have borrowed the best of each other's attributes over the years. Final Fantasy VI is also my favourite final fantasy as well, the greatest story ever told in a JRPG and the game that pulled me into the genre from my former sneering contempt for it. (completely settled by Chrono Trigger a year or two later) Again excellent job on the video, I hope the algorithm is kind to it, and my like and comment help it out!
Thanks for the kind words! To clarify though, I did not say "the first open world." I said "perhaps one of the earliest examples of such in a video game." 14:24 I phrased it that way specifically because there's no clear cut consensus on what qualifies as an "open world," especially when comparing earlier games to how we apply that term today to games like Elden Ring. But I do know there are earlier examples of such even on console such as the original Legend of Zelda. I also appreciate you calling me "young." That makes me feel good because this game turning 30 makes me feel quite old, especially when it seems like some of the games I used to play are now older than some of the streamers who play them. 😂
Without watching the video - Quest 3 wins hands down, because of wireless options and much better lenses. The admittedly deep blacks of PS2VR, the crappy sweetspot, the less than ideal sound options, the annoying controllers that cannot be replaced if you damage them - without buying a whole new VR headetset - and the annoyance of rechargable batteries and the mura, the fiddly setup (at least on PS5) etc. PSVR2 is servicable and good option if it is the only thing you got, but NO match for Quest 3. I own both, by the way.
Thanks for your comment. Regarding the controllers, I've heard that Sony will replace them for free or for a fee, depending on your warranty status. However, I agree it's stupidly inconvenient that Sony doesn't just sell them separately. EDIT: Apparently, Sony is teaming up with Apple to make PSVR2 controllers compatible with the Vision Pro, and this will include the controllers finally being sold separately! According to this December 8, 2024 article from Bloomberg: www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2024-12-08/apple-sony-talk-playstation-vr-ps-vr2-hand-controller-support-for-vision-pro
He just teleports away. Doesnt work
still works, thanks !
That doesn't work you dumb fuck
After playing RE Village and RE4 Remake on the Psvr2 there is no way I can return to playing the flat version. The immersion being in the game and using your own hands to shoot and reload weapons is really satisfying. Can’t wait for Hitman, Behemoth, Metro and Alien for the Psvr2 this year.
@@MsUltraBob There's also the Batman game coming out for Quest 3 next month. They definitely back loaded VR games this year. You constantly hear people saying VR is dead, and here I am wondering how I'll find the time to play all these games!
In general I totally agree with you. I've used both headset and compared it side by side. For me PSVR 2 is the winner, to be honest. It has stunning image. And I am okay with narrow sweet spot. However I agree with your final table showing when to buy what. And in the end, best case scenario is to use both depending on the game\mood
One part you forgot to mention is wireless vr via the quest requires you pc to be hard wired to ethernet to have a good experience and network infrastructure recommend wifi 6
For horror and space games, buy a VR headset with OLED. I have a Quest 2 and an old Quest 1 (OLED !). I also have 4 spare Quest headsets, and only going to buy a new VR headset when all my VR headsets are broke and turned to dust. I am not a person who wants the newest VR gear every year and likes to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to be hi-tech flair.
WHERE IS THAT
This was in a Shinjuku arcade back in summer 2018. Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact name of the arcade.
@@parrydogsickle thx amma go book a flight
I like the Quest 3, better sweet spot, Psvr2 is smaller. I fine myself adjusting the headset more
Do you think they will update the PSVR2 app on PC. I don't think they will. It is what it is. I got it working great but did have issues till I moved my bluetooth and wifi aeriel from behind the PC and bluetacked it to the front of my PC now it works flawless. I have a TP Link dongle just in case but haven't needed it.
@@Steelninja77 no idea, but I hope so because the setup process was a pain for me and many others. However, everything seems to be up and running for me now and I've really enjoyed playing Half-Life Alyx on PSVR2!
@@parrydogsickle yeah it's pretty cool. I like using it when my quest 3 battery runs out. Lol
I own both and was playing legendary tales on my quest 3 earlier today and tbh they both look nice but it's just so much better playing that game wireless with no cable to get in the way of your sword swipes. Had that happen a few times. I like having both. they are both great but the quest 3 is the better device co's it does everything.. But yeah you definitely need a headstrap battery pack. I have one. I cannot remember the brand but it works well. can play for like an hour and still have 100% on the quest 3 sometimes.
@@Steelninja77 Legendary Tales is a great game! I played it on PSVR2 and never had any issues with the wire. I did almost punch a hole in wall though lmao. To be fair, the game does tell you that you'll need a lot of space, I just didn't take that seriously enough until I started flailing my arms around. 😂
@@parrydogsickle yeah that's pretty much what happened to me I caught the wire and somehow broke a cup and almost dragged my Rog Ally off the side. Kinda like a freak accident lol
@@parrydogsickle yeah I don't have a lot of space to work with.
