“If there’s any gap that exists” - LOL what? Does SLPD really think there’s no gap between them and the community? Lt. Steve seems like a nice guy who has his heart in the right place but is also a little high on his own methane. Instagram likes ≠ community engagement. Nor does the sporadic Coffee with the Cops, or the incredibly cherry-picked, sanitized Q&A videos. The cops and the city are in deep denial over the increasing discontent with police response to recurring issues, repeat offenders, quality of life issues, and crime in general. Mikaela being recognized at community events is completely irrelevant to anything. They think sticking that girl in front of a camera every chance they get will placate anyone into thinking the city’s glaring problems have all gone away. Can we please get some adults in the room?

Suggestions for future episodes: - Actually introduce the people you’re interviewing. We have no idea who this guy is, where he came from, or what he does in the community because he just jumps into talking about his story. We have zero reason to care about this guy without even knowing why the mayor is interviewing him. He’s just some rando that got picked for this, for all we know. - Better editing. Cut out all of David’s long pauses. - Teach the mayor how to interview. Stop asking questions, not waiting for an answer, and then tacking on a new question. Speed it up. The weird, bizarre, slow pace of his line of questioning is painful to listen to. Ask questions more clearly and directly; a number of times, David seemed understandably confused by what was being asked of him. - Clearly outline the the purpose of this podcast. What is it hoping to highlight? Who is it hoping to highlight? Again, why should we care? Just kind of strange content to just dump onto the city channel with no context and no explanation as to what it is other than the mayor just talking for 40 minutes with someone he thinks is interesting.

It's abundantly clear that Avierett is just another Pridgen: an ideologue who was put into place for optics, while spouting DEI nonsense that isn't based in reality and doesn't reflect the concerns and demands of the vast majority of the community. As usual, San Leandro's city council and leadership continue to capitulate to the demands of the vocal activist minority who also seem to exist in a fantasyland completely separate from where the rest of us are living. As a result, we get bottom-of-the-barrel hires who speak to the demands of this minority while everything continues to get worse around them. It should raise the brows of anyone paying attention that someone who was in charge of BART police - one of the most ineffective police forces in the Bay Area who've done nothing to prevent BART from becoming a dangerous cesspool that's hostile to riders - is now going to be at the helm of a city teetering on the brink of becoming another Oakland. Good luck with that. Mayor Gonzalez is a major disappointment, someone who ran on common sense and turned out to be just another politician more concerned with pushing feel-good narratives than holding anyone accountable for the lack of any meaningful progress in public safety. He continues to tout the Safety Ambassadors, who don't do anything but move people along to be a problem elsewhere. Oh, great, they got the raving maniac out of Peet's, who will just wander off into another business to be a nuisance there instead. If he doesn't get the cops called on him today, it'll be tomorrow or the next time he creates a scene. All the Ambassadors do is kick the can down the road, wander aimlessly downtown, and smoke weed at Casa Peralta. Meanwhile, the homeless continue to camp out in the middle of sidewalks, along train tracks, in our parks, parked in the gutters in ramshackle RVs, coming into neighborhoods and creating massive problems, trespassing onto businesses' properties and causing damage and thieving, stealing from businesses downtown, urinating and defecating publicly, starting fires, raving maniacally and acting aggressively while wandering into traffic, etc. We've got people getting killed in our grocery stores, people doing donuts in busy intersections in broad daylight, kids on bikes killing old women and harassing drivers in the street despite years of reports to SLPD about them that have gone ignored, the dirt bike/ATV issue that's gone unabated for years, carjackings and robberies/break-ins happening in broad daylight, and an uptick in sideshows even on weeknights. All rules of the road have gone out the window, as people blast through lights and stop signs with impunity, drive down one-way streets, roll around with illegally tinted windows, no plates, expired tags, fake paper plates, illegally customized plates, blasting music so loud it can be heard for blocks, speeding while both sober and drunk - all while not a single cop ever pulls them over for anything. Illegal vending has gotten out of hand. While the food vendors have some legal protections, they can't vend from motorized vehicles, can't trespass onto private property, and can't block access to sidewalks. Yet we've got people who drive around on golf carts (even on the sidewalks), set up shop on private property, sell from their cars, sell on medians in the middle of Marina, sell in residential areas, and block entire portions of sidewalks to the point where they're impassable - all while not a single cop ever proactively does anything about any of it. They only respond with extreme reluctance when they're reminded that the vendors also have laws and rules they need to follow and are breaking. Gonzalez shakes his fist and demands that SLPD and Code Enforcement actually enforce code. But in the years he's been mayor, our neighborhoods are looking rougher than ever. Blight, weeds, illegal dumping, properties riddled in junk, overgrowth, cars parked on lawns, lawns illegally paved over to have cars piled on top, house parties with blaring music and live bands, neighbors engaged in disruptive, anti-social behaviors. And the two organizations responsible for addressing these issues continue to stand there with their hands up shrugging and pretending they don't know how to enforce law and code, despite the previous decades in which they had no problem writing citations and ordering neighbors to clean up and be considerate to neighbors. But we should be glad that the latest inept police chief wants to keep pushing false narratives and making it harder for cops to do their jobs, and that the Ambassadors move problem people along to be problems elsewhere. We should also be glad that the bean counters want to pass tax increases so they can squander even more of our money while the taxpayer wonders what in the world we're getting in exchange for our exorbitant taxation rates. This city is a joke.

Naw ... i bought a house out here in San Leandro and I work during the day while i had to move my stuff at night. Two of your officer comes up to me interrogating me about what I'm doing and all that sort while I'm moving stuff from the U-Haul truck and into the garage. I told them to get off my property and that i'm busy moving my stuff into the house I just bought. Then they come up with a made ups tory about how they are just patrolling the neighborhood because they got a call about how a guy in a red car was driving around the area going into people's garages and stealing things out of it. I told them that was a BS story and they said they saw me in a red car driving around and followed me here. They saw a red car that belonged to the neighbor. I drove the U-Haul truck hours earlier. The said they have reasonable suspicion because I'm moving things from the truck and this is part of their investigation. I told them I wanted an incident report number for the call they got about a guy in a red car that's driving around the area breaking into people's garages and if i'm being detained. They said that they i'm not detained and don't have to give me that information. I told them if I'm not detained they need to get off my property. They asked for my ID I told them no. They said I had to ID myself because what I'm doing was suspicious abs if I don't give them my ID they can arrest me. I said failure to ID is a secondary crime and I must be under arrest first. Then I proceed to ask them if I'm under arrest and they said no. Then I told them to get off my property or they are trespassing. They kept on wanting to play the detained but not arrested , you need to give us your ID and we are conducting an investigation game. They wanted all this information from me but won't give me any information. How are we in the community suppose to trust the cops. If you're wondering what happened in the end... my friend who just so happens to work in a federal agency (it's one of those three letter agency) drove up to help me. These cops were quick to ask him to ID himself and he showed his credentials and your SLPD goons scurried away so fast without a word. It was like watching cockroaches scurry way when you turn the lights on. would love to tell you who they were but they even failed to ID themselves. That's why the majority of communities don't like or trust cops. They are not on your side. They bully under the color of law.

Remember Uvalde over 400 officers from many different branches refused to stop 1 teen killer as he murdered 19 babies and 2 brave teachers, 77 minutes those children waited for the” hero’s” that chose to let them die as they pepper spray the grieving parents, threw them to the ground and handcuffed them for pleading for their children. Let’s not forget parkland Florida when officer Scott Peterson heard gunfire and ran from the school and hid while these children were murdered. These are only 2 examples of why this profession is suffering. But there are thousands more. George Floyd, Breonia Taylor, Travon Martin, Atatina Jefferson, Bothem Jean, Orlando Castillo, Sandra Bland, Tyre Nicole’s, Michael Green and Elijah McClain to name a handful of innocent people of color murdered by law enforcement.
