+Skill Builder You are correct and I did record this internally. 4:2:0 gives you more grading possibilities than many think, especially with this camera, its sensor, and codec chip. My colorist was surprised to discover it was not 4:2:2.

Thanks. I just shot a wedding with it last weekend and it turned out great. Very slow zooms are a function of the servo motors and their voltage control, and smaller cameras never perform with the zoom precision of larger ones. I find the zoom speeds on the X70 completely acceptable for such use. You can't do a slow "creep" (barely perceptible) in or out, but you can do a nice slow zoom.

+MacroView Thanks for the info. I also from time to time make short films. Have you done any experimentation with a "filmic" look using the camera: does it shoot OK in progressive without too much "stuttering" in fastish motion? Is there a good picture preset in the camera which works well for this type of thing?

Gary Gibbons You can Google this for more info. You need to upgrade the software to V2 (Google that) then buy the upgrade from a retailer like B&H or Band Pro, or directly from Sony. It's nonsense. Just what I call "techno-posturing" from probably well-intentioned persons who have little if any experience with this camera (or higher-end 4k cameras.) The image from this $2,500 camera is phenomenal.

The 60 mbps is in no way a liability. The footage is amazing. Projected and graded on a 20-foot screen in 4K by colorist who works with 4K F55, Alexa, Red, 35mm film. He was impressed too. HDMI does output 4K.

Sam Powell Thank you. On that long zoom-out from the house to the wide shot the Clear Zoom feature was enabled. The Digital Extender is not available in 4K, and I didn't think Clear Zoom would be either as it has to digitally zoom in on the 4K imager to give you that tighter shot-- which it does. So I'm surprised that (A) that feature is enabled in 4K, and (B) it fooled me and another colleague (who also shoots 4K with the F55) into thinking that it was only an optical zoom. I plan on looking at this footage on a calibrated professional 4K monitor this week (vs. a consumer 4K) and see if I notice a difference. (Since very few people who see the end product of my work view it on $20,000 professional 4K monitors, the camera seems to have already passed this test...) Any "bad points"? Well, that depends on how you're going to use it. Sony's flagship 8K F65 has bad points if you're doing run-and-gun: it's heavy and wasn't designed for that. If you're shooting a documentary with the F65 in remote locations, a bad point would be that it has enormous data needs, being 8K and all. So every camera has advantages and disadvantages. It all depends on how one intends to use it. I don't know what the dynamic range is and hope to find that out this week. I always want more DR (and I can get that with my F55 in S-Log and Raw.) I always want a wide lens and long lens in the same lens... this camera's lens is 29-250mm (in 35mm terms), and 500mm with the digital extender. That's incredible. Schneider optics has a nice wide adapter I'm testing which is a zoom through to about 75% and the wide ends up close to 18 or 14mm. The codec seems great, solid. (You can see the footage for yourself.) There are little things I'm persnickety about... placement of a few controls... little stuff but nothing significantly affecting the operation and certainly not the images. I've used it very little in HD but my friends who have (who also own F55s) really love it. I can always get more camera with more features, higher DR, more frame rates, different codecs, etc. for more money (FS7, F55.) But for the size, weight, features, quality image, zoom range in excellent Zeiss glass, 1" 4K imager, all for $2K US (plus the upgrade if you want it), it's a slam dunk in my book. This is a camera I'll have at my side every day.

Sz.N.Zs. I am attempting an upload three clips to myairbridge right now. One .mxf clip has loaded but I have no idea if that clip by itself can be viewed... Catalyst Browser might be the only tool, but usually when you remove a clip from the XDROOT folder, it's of no use...the file structure has parts missing. The only option would be to upload the entire folder with all the clips which (A) is far too huge and (B) I'm not willing to do anyway! :-) So let's see what happens here...
