The "Side Slip" - How I was taught to Side Slip - Can save you from fast Landing approach!
In this video, I am shown how to "Side Slip" - A manouvre you will use to save your Plane or your Life.
I cannot emphasize how important this manouver is... and I often forget that it's in my "Bag of Tricks" for any landing approach speed issues.
I almost always lazily just use Flap and get "stale" with the technique.
Mental Note: I need to do Flapless Side Slip Approaches once a month to remind me its available... and if only just for fun. It's fun.

PAN PAN - PAN PAN - PAN PAN - Precautionary Rodeo & Landing Montage
Просмотров 1133 месяца назад
Last weekend I had my very first PAN PAN situation in the Sling TSi, and was glad to see the "repetition" learning Coach punished me with came back instantly. Unfortunately, while I did not capture any video on that (Semi-locked Gullwing Door Blow Out on take-off 700ft and 180 degree turn to land on opposing runway)... it did remind me of some of the more memorable PAN PAN training events I cov...

This was my easiest run into Gold Coast International so far. I do my "TradeMark" flaps 1 with 200ft Wheelie Landing - into Taxiway Bravo! (Oh yeah, pretty sure that's a trademark, right? :) ) It's one of the very few times... I GOT NOTHING WRONG !!! Woohoo !! Anyway, it doesn't last long. My upcoming Exit from GC International is an excruciating screw-up. That's next... but for now... I'll lie...
Why Does The Garmin G3X Not Go Direct ??
Просмотров 1899 месяцев назад
The probability that a demonstration will go wrong is higher than if it will go perfectly. I prove this fact here after practicing the Instrument Change several times before videoing it. In a previous video I was having trouble with the Garmin G3X and "Go Direct" and turns out if I won't read the manual (RTFM)... then at least read the Screen Messages... idiot. It seems so obvious now. :)

Final PPLA Test Practice - The 11km Emergeny Glide Approach.
Просмотров 30511 месяцев назад
For my final PPLA test, I had been alerted that "Stalls" were on the menu. Also, "Flapless Glide Approaches" were going to be the flavour of the day. However, this is easily the longest Glide approach I've ever had the fortitude to attempt.... according to Google Maps between 5 to 6nm from 3100ft. Selena loves to Glide, but this was something else...against an 18 Knot Crosswind !!! The Instrume...

This is the emergency landing scenario's to this test and does not reflect the overall nature of the full 2 hour flight. However, some of the more important evaluation is contained in it. Clearly I am still sttruggling with just how well Selena wants to glide. She's just a thoroughbred that wants to run and I have to continually side-slip her because I just don't go downwind enough for her to g...
My First Flight in my First Aircraft. SLING TSi. Controlled Airspace - enroute Tamworth Australia

My First Flight in my first Plane. A Sling TSi. Her name is Selena. I've only recently got my Cross-Country endorsement. I have NOT got my "Controlled Airspace" endorsement. I'm a baby in the hands of everyone... and I feel like it. Lots to learn. But, towards the end... ... the magnitude of the "lifes journey" benefits that this undertaking has created, is not lost on me at all.

I think essential for pilots to learn and use often. Lots more margin for error on approach, meaning you can err high and really tailor your touchdown. Then even engine failure is just a glider landing. Of course, I flew sailplanes for years ;-)

Is this not, strictly speaking, a "forward slip, rather than a "side slip"?

I was taught to do ailerons first then rudder because is safer and you avoid to skid unintentionally. I'm interested to know why do you use rudder first?

      @pelicanaviationjourney 2 месяца назад

Interesting... I must say, I've never really thought about it that deeply. My feel for the Sling TSi is that any Rudder input is very quickly noticed, so I can't imagine that when either "Rudder" or "Aileron" input is introduced... the other will not be too far apart from each other. I think you're right though... I think its natuaral to go with Aileron first. Gentlly Gently.

I'll publish a video shortly of Jamie's lovely Sling TSi with a 2 x 2 Channel Radio we flew around Gold Coast Hinterland for 2 hours. It has 2 radios, but there's the chance of monitoring too many channels so you still really need to be on the ball with it. Cheers dude.
