Olen usein miettinyt, että miten alimmat hirret ankkuroidaan perustuksiin. Vai ankkuroidaanko ollenkaan? Riittääkö talon paino pitämään rakennuksen paikallaan suhteessa perustuksiin pahimmassakin tuulenpuuskassa tai maan järinässä? - Olen nyt viimeisen vuoden aikana innostunut hirsirakentamisesta oikein urakalla. Haluaisin päästä kaatamaan omat puuni itse, kuorimaan, taapeloimaan, tekemään talon perustukset, kaivamaan kellariaukon/bunkkerin, sahaamaan omat lautatavarat jne. En tosin tiedä, että miten tuohon päästä käsiksi ilman, että lähipiirissä olisi alan asioita osaavaa. Nyt kirjastosta lainassa Jarmo Hiltusen "Uudistunut perinteinen hirrenveisto" -teos. Ostin myös Echon CS-501SX moottorisahan Virossa viime vuoden kesänä, jolla olen siellä harjoitellut muutaman kymmenen puun kaatoa lähinnä polttopuiksi. Löysin kanavasi, Timo, tänään, vaikka olin nähnyt yhden videoistasi joitakin kuukausia sitten, mutta en rekisteröinyt asiaa liiemmin tuolloin. Katsoin kuitenkin tänään kaikki löytämäni videot Hirsitikkaan ja sinuun liittyen. Loistaavaa materiaalia ja hienoa, että olet oppinut hirrenveiston saloja niin pitkälle. Kiittäisin sinua myös sinun tahdostasi uudistaa alaa ja toisaalta myös ylläpitää tätä kansanperinnettä ja tuoda suomalaista hirsiosaamista takaisin maailmankartalle. Olisi hauska nähdä viuhkaladonnalla tehty hirsitalo valmiina suurine lasialoineen.

What's the price?

Great that someone is innovating in this building tradition without spoiling the important things! I had always wished the same would happen here in Norway, but so many factors have worked against it, that the tradition has not developed very far from the cake box cabins so popular now. A note about the point of condensation or Zero point; if the the timber thickness increases more and more the zero-point is driven deeper and deeper into the timber. This might be the reason that ancient timber houses have 17-20 cm thick walls while building as much as 70cm in height per kvarv/omfar/course. I have considered this problem and am curious if you have too, or know of research in Finland about it? I realise yours is a colder dryer, more wind still climate than here in Norway. The temperature differential is greater from indoors and out so the zero point must create a great deal of water in the walls of a timber house situated in Finland? I really appreciate the quality of your work. Many of the details are very similar to work that I've done or recognize from friends from the ILBA. I would like to know more about your work and where you are located. I have been designing and building handcrafted log homes since 1969. I have lived in the state of Oregon for many years and I'm now in the process of moving to Sweden. I'm half Swedish and half German. My great grandfather was a log builder (en timmerman) who moved to the US in 1885. None of the family knew that he had been a log builder until I discovered that a friend of mine who was restoring a log structure in Seattle, Washington mentioned that the building had been built by "an old Swede." About one minute later I discovered that that "old Swede" was my great grandfather. There is far more depth to this story than I can share here, but it did set me on a quest to find out more about my family, ancestors and anything dealing with Sweden, Swedish, history and on and on and on. Where this has led me is that I am currently bidding on a property in Bergsjö, Sweden which is between Hudiksvall and Sundsvall. Once I get settled, I would enjoy visiting you. Moro mestari. Voitko antaa arviota, paljonko tulisi tukit maksamaan jos hyvä laatuisesta männystä rakentaisin itse mökin, joka olisi aika tarkalleen koko luokkaa joka näkyy Nik Rijavek:in rakennus videoissa. Koittanut etsiä googlesta mutta ei ole mitään järkevää löytynyt.

Hieno video. Olisi kiva nähdä miten tapitat hirret toisiinsa. Latviassa ja virossa tapit laitetaan alemman hirren pintaan jonka jälkeen päälle laskettavan hirren alapuolella tehdään niille vastaavat reiät. Mutta suomalainen tapa tuntuu olleen porata reikä ylemmän hirren läpi alempaan hirteen. Kuulin väitteen että poraamalla ylhäältä hirren läpi olisi suurempi riski että hirret jäävät kantamaan tappien varaan rakanneuksen asettuessa, jos poraus on hiemankin vino. Mitä mieltä itse olet? :)

Never noticed a problem such as you describe with Norwegian laftehus. Maybe the sinklaft you are using is holding the timbers apart and the skinninglaft used in Norway allows the timbers to tighten. Your system suits your climate, here we have to have much more windproof solution than the one you are using (it takes very much longer to make skinningllaft/raulandslaft) . Very good work and good problem solving!
