Natural Resources Utah Phillips Ani DiFranco Natural Resources
And here we are, 2024 post-election..
I was just a very young teen when this came out, and as a fan of Ani DiFranco with a hippie mom that knew Utah Phillips - Shaped my ability to be the storyteller and preserver of perspectives - and the importance of this role in society may have been otherwise lost for me, as we live in a society who is actively attempting to silence people with the knowledge to help history not repeat itself.
& I saw her [Marian Anderson] singing there thru the rain... & I realised, right then, that I knew it was all wrong & it all had to change & that change Had to start With me Am so grateful that this exists & was put together so lovingly. Still speaks to all of us.
Today is Marian Anderson's birthday (27 Feb 1897) - she brought me back here :)
Great true story by one of the great story telkers, folk poet and performer rebel always with a cause that lights you up and honors the people.
It's 2022 and I STILL revisit this.
It always will. 😉
Hell's bells. Here I am in 2024, and ever shall it be necessary.
Utah really changed my life! An American original, I wish there were more like him, considering EVERY GENERATION was pushed into a crippling war!
Is that background music Ani Difranco? That works.
The first time I ever heard the term "anarchy" defined in anything close to a coherant way.
ANARCHY BURGER! HOLD THE GOVERNMENT!
I cry when I listen to this. :)
“The very face of privlidge on a ski chair with his father” happy fa thers day. “Daylight Nightlight”
Confessing ones sins is wonderful for the soul.. The soul is cleansed, renewed, revived, restored & reconciled to its proper "state", one of grace..! Utah bearing his heart on this track is somewhat similar, in a way, to the act of confession.. I really dig this track.. Talk about open & in your face honesty.. Eternal rest grant unto Utah, O LORD. Let perpetual light shine upon him & may he rest in peace. Amen.
♡
And that change had to start... with me. Thank you Utah!
"Have you seen what they DO to valuable natural resources?"
Thanks for posting this! My favorite song the first time I heard it. I was fortunate enough to see Utah perform a couple of times in San Francisco, may he rest in peace.
"If there's a worthwhile struggle in my own life, that's probably the one."
What in the hell... Utah speaks to us all... even in 2018...
what is the origin of the melody?
Olexandr Utah Phillips himself!
Ani DiFranco
U. Utah Phillips.... It's been a while..
I was at that Young Writer's conference, and that man shaped my life. Many, many years later, I got a chance to tell him that. The smile on his face was maybe the single most empowering thing I ever saw. A man, truly happy to see that his message has been passed along. I've tried to pass the same message along to others, including my son,and I truly hope that Utah Phillips never disappears from our collective consciousness.
gene lewis did he tell you not to let anyone call you a valuable natural resource?
@@Discworld-Edge-Witch he told me almost everything of value in my life.

Love the story. it's one of those moments that happen in your life , where you're talking to someone, that you don't realize how inspirational it is or how big of a role is going to play in your future.
This guy gave me some lingering faith in human beings. He still does. I wish I'd had a chance to shake his hand.
His Grandson, Brendan. is keeping up his anarchist ways in Utah. He is the Co-Chair of the Young Greens of the United States.
I am up at five twenty-five in the morning, after having gone to bed at two thirty in the morning. I am coming back to these words, and it is about as close as I can get to G_D.
this is definitelt, no way, no REAL voice. ;]
Read "You cant win" by Jack Black. Not the shitty comedian.
