Should You Vote No Preference? (EP#2)
Просмотров 73128 дней назад
A discussion on the concept of no preference voting. This involves voting "No Preference" (ideally in non-contested states, where the outcomes are clear) in order to show the politicians that we are not happy with the current election system. While many people have their own reasons for voting Non-preference, I believe our "First Past The Post" electoral system combined with campaign finance de...

The right likes the right of certain individuals (Corporations) to have the liberty to extract your labor for what they see fit, with limited protections that keeps the discrepancies between different categories of the "individuals" fair (Fair Labor Standards Act, social security, Medicare, unemployment benefits, minimum wage...).
I agree that the current unit of the society as an individual gives corporations a great deal of advantage, especially when they can have free speech and concentration of power without similar consequences we suffer as individuals. But the idea of “extracting labor” as a description of this exchange takes away the idea of worker autonomy. After all, this exchange is voluntary.
Sorry, only one of those dual curves moved away from the other.
Sounds like someone doesn't recognize their own echo-chamber.
Moderatism is the New Extreme!
😊
I love it
Rradicals!
How dare you be moderate. How dare you sir.
A good way to live life, making sensible choices on a case by case basis, never chained to any one ideology or train of thought. Different circumstances require different thinking and solutions, never stagnant or dependent on a single set of ideas. 🤗
Very true indeed. Different circumstances require different means of thinking and even the same circumstances can change, requiring an evolving process of managing the thinking process. Just as the theory of relatively says about physical objects, all frames of mind also exist only relative to a seed frame of thought. This is why we can change our minds and our circumstances by changing facts and premises. This is the definition of progress - an agile mind open to continuous learning and growing. Cheers!

It's all theory, what about look into practice what they are doing. There is no country in the world where they improved something. Just disaster where they destroying everything including killing of their own people, such as in China, Russia, North corea, Venezuela, Cuba and any other country where they come into charge for long period.
There’s another channel called Radical Moderate . I haven’t looked into it tho.
Yeah... good thing there are many moderates! :)
Democrats have two different platforms! The one they pushed to the public and the one they Implement behind closed doors making both congressmen and women richer each day! So much for the fairness and equality of their platform...
A vote of no preference or confidence is basically saying they have the right to make decisions for you!!!
You may be right; but I think if the no preference votes hits a critical limit it does show that the electorate are engaged but not happy with the choices we've been given. There are two problems currently in the system, money, and electroal voting system. Citizen's United is a massive problem and so is the First Past The Post voting system. If we don't address these first nothing will get addressed. All the rest is platitudes. Non of the candidates are remotely talking about these points.
@RadicalModeration I agree, democracy is based on a majority of votes not a race to the Golden Ring!?

@@hander9929 each sovereign, and even each local nation or tribe has its own Overton window. The nation state’s Overton window is the sum total of each clan, tribe, community, state and nation state’s average aggregate of all its Overton Windows. That becomes the nation’s identity encompassing most but never all people in it. There are always people outside the window. The so called rebels or radicals. These groups, if given power, will pull to shift the Overton Window over themselves. That’s how radical ideas of a group yesterday become today’s mainstream ideas in that same group.
Moderates: "Yeah, we will just compromise so that we can avoid the extremes on both sides of the political spectrum. Me: "Kinda how Germans decided to become fascists in order to avoid Marxism and the restoration of the monarchy?". Moderates: "Noooo! My Ego! I AM SOCRATES!".
@@willhelmberkly3025 moderation is different than stoicism. Nobody said let’s roll over … but it does say there’s a space between rapid change and no change where ideas can be worked out before being implemented.
It's never been my goal to feel 'in place', I see and agree with arguments from both sides as well as disagree with arguments from both sides. Both can be absolute liars and hypocrites on a particular subject. I've listened to the talking heads from both sides and each have proclaimed that moderates are those who are unable to make a decision which is incorrect. I simply refuse to pretend that the world is black and white.
You just described the exact position of a Radical Moderate. It basically says we don't have all the answers and it takes civilized discourse to find a pragmatic solution to these problems. That nothing is black and white and the truth is hard to reach. Sometimes wisdom is all we can hope for rather than mere facts. The goal is to define that level of moderation and how we can get there. Cheers!
So kamala wants to act as the future mother😏 , and her government shall interfere in everything on peoples lives. What about trump?
You are right that both parties are infantilizing the voters. But then again, the voters sometimes act like infants too. So, I don't know whom to blame. But you are right, Kamala has a more collective ideaology; but Trump has also taken over spending to the next level. Both are irresponsible in their own ways.
Having wishy washy do-nothing moderates in power who only want to maintain the status quo is what creates the growth of extremism on the right which stokes discontent and resentment as the needs of the working class are not being met and this in turn shifts the Overton window to the right. This is what has caused the rise of populist movements like Trumpism to where we are now in danger of losing democracy. A pox on centrist moderates.
This is because you are in your own Overton Window. The window has not just shifted, it has fractured in two. Stay tuned for that video coming up.
Hey, just curious, what's your take on the correlation between genetics and IQ?
@@Xenophagist There’s definitely a genetic basis for IQ the same way there’s a genetic basis for height. But since the eugenics backlash we’ve decided collectively in civilized society to ignore this specific topic because it goes against Lock’s idea of Tabula Rasa. It’s also a challenging realization that about 14% of the population have an IQ lower than 85, essentially taking away many high paying opportunities from them in the modern, generally IQ dependent, society. But just like height, genes set the tone and the potential for each of us…. It’s the environment that allows full or partial expression of a given gene. So, genetics alone doesn’t account for variability among individuals as meta genetics also plays a significant role on how these genes are expressed. So, we are not deterministically condemned by our IQ. If it were the case I would have had no chance in life!!! 😂
The Republican platform is Donald Trump's Project 2025.
I like the darker screen as I can play it while winding down before bed and even play it on my dad’s TV when I’ve dimmed the lights at night . I like the big number so I can see which video I’m watching because I keep clicking the same videos I’ve already watched when I’m rushing about my chores or driving . I don’t watch thru a RUclips app and not sure if that would automatically play each video in order without my having to physically click the next one . Perhaps add the number l of the video large enough so it easy pops up? I see this done in the first one and easy to see . The following videos it’s hard to see the number .. Awesome videos
Thanks for the feedback... I was thinking of having Episode Numbers... but then thought maybe it's better to keep them independent so people don't assume it's best to see them in order. But you have a good point... Maybe I'll include just a big # on the Thumbnail to designate that. BTW, you can either watch them in playlist to show them one after another or have Autoplay on.. but that will just show you RUclips Recommendations, not the same channel. Cheers!
ah, yes; "equality vs freedom" Dxracer let me fix that for jew: equality vs corporatist freedom; the freedom of capital to act with impunity on labor
I agree that we have really screwed up the corporate power component of the equation in our democracy. I think the notion that corporations are treated as people dates back to a few Supreme Court decisions in the 70's, (i.e. Bank of Boston vs. Bellotti 1978) that lay the foundation for the modern power asymmetry between the individual and the corporations with large pockets. We screwed up and this is an area of priority to change.
Not to much of a problem with people taking a center position which can be balanced, but putting equality on one side of a seesaw and liberty on the other gives these opposite relationships like they are mutually exclusive but they are not. They would be separate seesaws if you want to see it like that. Among possible configurations and arguably the only way to have real Liberty entails equality, and you can have extreme inequality and no liberties except for the few. We can think of a system like that pretty easily. It is suspicious and leading that someone would pit those two things as opposed to each other.
Thanks for making that point; but I still believe that those two set of priorities (Equality vs. Liberty), at least from a government and policy point of view, ARE mutually exclusive. In fact, if you look at the political spectrum, the more freedom you have the less equality you have (in a free market, Plato said over 2200 years ago that as the rich get richer the poor get poorer) and on the equality side, the more equity oriented economies that are communistic in nature must enforce those laws by force (excessive taxation, etc.) as they must prevent the overachievers to get ahead. We can sugar coat it but that's the essence of it. If you can give me an example of a system where equality and liberty are both maxed out I would be happy to hear it. But the question really is where is the best balance where the sea saw is stable.. at least IMHO.
By not voting, you are giving up your ultimate voice.
I think you misunderstood my point. I am voting but voting “no preference.” That’s an indication that the two party first past the post electoral system is the problem. It’s a protest vote. Not voting is not good at all. But a protest vote is a vote for improving the system regardless of the political parties involved. Cheers!
By the way, that video detail about voting is detailed here and is not in the introduction. ruclips.net/video/yqSI6WFRgzY/видео.htmlsi=0oq2Cmz8iL824NqP
Centrist is a rare breed these days. Thank you
Totally agree on ' democracy works best when people participate' Hence it's great to see you talk on politics and democracy. Looking forward to more such videos
Thank you. More in the way. :)
While I agree with some of the concerns you've voiced in this video, I wouldn't opt for being a moderate, and would definitely vote. If you look at some of the rhetoric the right is spewing, it's much more harmful than what the left is saying. While I don't like either party, the right is advocating for banning books in schools, building a wall to keep immigrants out based off of lies, and some of whose members fly swastika flags. I don't think the left is great either, but they at least advocate for personal freedoms and equal rights. I'm not sure how much you know about the political sphere, but the term "radical moderate" tends to refer to people trying to stay in the Overton Window. At the moment, that's incredibly far right on any other country's political spectrum. I would opt for a different term.
Interesting perspective. Thats basically what the mainstream media has been saying for the past year as well, primarily to prevent Trump from becoming president. I’m definitely not a fan of Trump but also believe both parties have exaggerated their concerns for “the other party” for so long that they have both lost credibility. Currently, the Right has been labeled anti democratic and the Left labeled War mongering. It should be noted that only a couple of decades ago these labels were reversed between the two parties! The Left is no longer the old left. The new New Left is very different indeed ideologically. Also, keep in mind I am not advocating not voting. I’m advocating that if one is in a State where the electoral votes are deterministic for a given party that they should consider voting no preference to simultaneously engage in politics while indicating their discontent with our current election system (first past the post two party system without adequate diversity and representation of various representative ideologies, a non-proportional voting system.)
By the way, I just realized I didn’t respond to your other point about the Overton Window. I have a whole theory about Overton in the modern times. I think I will make a video about it after this. And yes I know about the political sphere. I minored in philosophy. Cheers and thanks for the comment. :)
well said. I'm not saying the left is good. For example, I take issue with the fact that they claim to be left, then, by international standards, are more centrist. However, I'm curious as to where that warmongering claim comes from, though, as historically it's been republicans who get the US into wars. My argument isn't that the right is evil and the left is angels delivered by god. I'm just arguing that the left is far less evil than the right. Read project 2025, then look at the projects that Harris is proposing. One party is supporting lunches for kids in schools, and one has literally published a guidebook on how to end democracy as we know it. As to voting "no preference", I think that in any other nation that would be perfectly valid. However, since the US doesn't have ranked choice or approval voting, protest votes only hurt the politicians you support. If the left makes a collective decision to vote "no preference", then the right wins. It's the same if they agreed to vote for a third party, or not to vote at all. This isn't something the right often does. if you go far left you get a lot more of the "I don't like either party" sentiment than you do at the far right. Until the two-party system and electoral college are fixed, go out and vote for the party you support. Otherwise, you're throwing your voice away. I agree, it doesn't exactly feel righteous or heroic, but if you have the choice between bad and worse, you should take the bad every time, rather than letting the worse option come to pass.
I'll also absolutely be keeping an eye out for that Overton video. Also, good on you for minoring in philosophy! I think everyone should take at least one philosophy course. my minor in philosophy has done more for my ability to have a discussion than my English classes.
@@vongobbler7486 Absolutely... it's probably the best way to excel in whatever field you major in! The Critical Thinking Skills is what seems to be lacking in teh world.... LOL! Just shot the Overton video... should come after the next two videos. Cheers!
Middle of the road Libertarian that honestly just wants freedom and to be left alone. The far left dems in office are wanting to constrict our rights to freedom of speech and endorse big big brother and that is unacceptable to me. I miss the old days of moderates on both sides working together to help the American citizens. I also believe in the states rights to determine what is best for its citizens instead of, say California politics being pushed onto people in the midwest, south, etc. People should respect our cultural differences in this country and not try to force others to believe or do what they say is best. It may be best for the coastal elites, and communities, but may not be best for the southern black belt, rust belt, etc.
It’s an interesting perspective. I think the idea of state rights vs federalism is exactly why the founding fathers believed in distribution of power. What’s good for New York City may not necessarily be good for Boise. I think this concept deserves its own video! 👍
@@RadicalModeration I remember that there was a big difference of opinion between statist and federalist in the early days of this nation. Adams maybe? Id definitely watch the video if you make one about this concept. Thanks for the comment
@@Andy-vh2ueyou’re right, Jefferson and Madison argued these points at length. And it meant a great dichotomy in the nation’s destiny; and I think Madison won at the end! It would have been a very different USA if Jefferson had won those debates as he had an entirely different vision than Madison.
