I forgot how pandering late night was back in the day. I also forgot how much ol paul always had something to say.

I actually think Dave's last 4 or 5 years on the Late Show were some of his best. He was older and more low key but his humor became more "adult" and he could still hammer the one liners.

This is Dave showing he was still bitter for Carsen picking Leno over him. NBC blamed Conan for his SHIT ratings and losing some 65% of Leno's viewers. The MILLIONS of people that did not like Conan blamed Conan. Leno did not hang around in the lobby. He was placed into the timeslot before the show to try to retain the viewers from NBCs popular night-time shows...did that, and Conan could not hold them so it was an obvious choice by NBC to give Conan the boot and put Leno back in.

There's no reason to be angry anymore to me even if I am still a little peeved because it's all about the legacy they'll leave behind. The tonight show is just a television program. Conan and Dave's legacy will be far and away better than Leno's.

Letterman was also pissed at NBC and so he would naturally defend Conan for losing the Tonight Show just like he did. Leno sucks.

When Conan was put in the position to replace Letterman, Dave showed up on the Show early on and endorsed Conan. Leno seems like a nice enough guy I don’t know him, but the way he handled this was and still is baffling and tarnished his name in a big way. I’d say he did more good as a host and a figure but people care how you end things and he finished on a fart

I love that Letterman stuck it to Leno a few times for this. This was bullsh1t of the highest order. The funny thing is I would watch Leno or Letterman(sorry I can't stand Fallon/Kimmel my own opinion just don't think they are funny) for the guest/musical performances. With Conan I tuned in to watch him, Conan was the show, no matter who was on or what topic was discussed he was gonna make you laugh or die trying and you gotta love that dedication. So once again good on Letterman, class act, stand up guy.
