HELICOPTER TO MT EVEREST AT SUNRISE! WITH LANDING AT KALA PATTHAR AND EVEREST BASE CAMP FLYOVER
An unforgettable early morning helicopter journey from Lukla to Everest Base Camp, following the route taken by trekkers on their way to the world's highest peak; tracing the Dudh Kosi River through the High Himalayas, passing Namche Bazaar, Tengboche Monastery, and Ama Dablam (22,349 ft). Most thrilling: A landing at Kala Patthar (18,519 ft) above Everest Base Camp offers a once-in-a-lifetime moment- SUNRISE OVER MT EVEREST-- plus close-up views of several of the World's Highest Peaks: Nuptse (25,791 ft), Lhotse (27,940 ft) and Pumori (23,494 ft). Next-- a flyover of the Khumbu Icefall -- and then getting to see it all over in reverse on the way back to Lukla. Sadly, it was over in an ho...

LUKLA---WORLD'S MOST DANGEROUS AIRPORT
Просмотров 44 тыс.Год назад
The Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla: the 'World's Most Dangerous Airport', Gateway to the Everest region and first stop on the Everest Base Camp Trek. From the spectacular flight from Kathmandu through the high Himalayas, to the harrowing landing on a tiny airstrip at 9300 ft, arrival in Lukla is a thrill on its own. And trekkers gather at airport overlooks, just to watch the planes attempt up...

It is simply insane to do this. If *anything* mechanical happens and you are stuck there, then you are dead. Going from Luklah ( <10, 000 ft) to Kala Patthar ( about 16,000 ft) in that short a period of time, is a ticking time bomb. But, I expect all the naysayers will speak up....but mark my words, this will not end well.

Stupid if it was the world's most dangerous airport, then why do thousands of foreign trekkers fly every season of the year. It is not dangerous and why make it dramatic. For me it is one of the most unique airports but not dangerous, what do you expect around a mountainous country like the Himalayas. I have flown more than 100 times in and out of Lukla during my trekking career over the past 4 decades.

So if someone lives an honest, noble life then dies, and eventually gets to go to heaven, I think a version of it would be to get to fly a helicopter around Mt Everest every day and get paid doing it.

I was a professional pilot for many years and assure you that the mystical majestic feeling wears off around day 3. Then you're just a bus driver with a memorized path, a bus that just happens to fly in conditions and terrain where an emergency landing would likely end in death. Certainly not my vision of an extraordinary afterlife... Good day.

And to think, each of those tiny tents is around $100K paid to the government, just for owning a chunk of that mountain. I think Bill Gates should stop wasting money in farm land and buy that entire mountain.
