Yea it's a funny damn feeling when you push the clutch in and the tractor just keeps on going and going and well you get the idea. Good video I was wondering just the other day if they still made them. Thanks for the video.
Wanna build out my first ford 8n out here in Detroit. Full shabang, power steering, hydraul pto, front loader etc. This was just the video I needed for the info I wanted to figure out what this overruning coupler would do for its pto. If I ever need anything I hope you guys got some power steering kits and stuff for 8n's. Ill gladly buy what I can from ya just for this video!!! Thanks! You have a website?
I have a 1948 8N and have battled my 908 rotary mower for nearly 50 years. Thank you so much for explaining these. I will buy one before the next mowing season!
Why doesn't the company who makes the Electronic side mount Conversion Kit for the 8 and 2 N make a front mount Electronic Conversion Kit for the 9N? I think there are many people out here who would buy them including myself. Thanks
I've got an old Massey Ferguson MF135 with a 6 foot Rhino brush cutter and it's scarier then hell when trying to mow in tight spaces. Press in the clutch and it don't want to stop quickly. I'm gonna get one of these.
Thanks for this video. I just purchased a '50 8N last week and am new to tractor use/ownership. I'm trying to educate myself as much as possible and this was easy to follow. In my limited use of the tractor I've noticed the push of the rotary cutter on the tractor and look forward to getting an ORC to stop this.
Was that dust cover really intended as a "safety device"? I could see that being the case in modern culture, but I can't really imagine a circumstance where a PTO not hooked up to a shaft could be much of an issue. Especially on something like an 8N with no ROPS, there are so many ways to hurt yourself on that thing that I think a non-hooked up PTO would be close to the bottom of the list somewhere near the gas tank spontaneously exploding.
+Rick Reichert Thanks, the guys who do the videos don't seem to think it's important to give the specifications. Just grab you feeler gauge and set. Not cool.
I have a mitsubishi/satoh 2100d I have the old style coupler. I have removed the roll pin, but can not remove the coupler. I have tried to pry it loose with no results. any help will be appreciated
You cant pry on 1 side of any cylinder and expect to get it off a shaft. Get two 48 inch pry bars and your biggest friend. One prys on top, one on bottom. After a good 24 hour Deep Creep Soak or WD 40/PB/LiquidWrench whatever. Also heating with a propane torch on the shaft will burn up whatevers locking it on.
+David Given .. The last 9N was built in 1941...Then they were 2Ns until 1948... Then they were 8Ns.. Try to catch up David Given.. that way you want sound dumb..
+Danny V .. So if good ole David wanted to call them "bicycle horns" instead of what they are then that's ok??? Were you and David in jail together?? Why are you defending him when he IS wrong?? Maybe he could call the 9Ns and 2Ns John Deere? You would go for that as well... You talk about purists but YOU painted yours, "(painted all gray like it's supposed to be in case you were wondering)", maybe you are a purist. So put a generator back on it "like it's supposed to be". My 9N has a 4 spoke steering wheel, a nickel plated "knob" on the shifter, an aluminum dash, and an aluminum hood.. WOW it must be a 2N...
+Danny V Serial numbers are for people that don't know what they are looking at. Danny V.. You are a little fish in a big pond... Most of the parts are interchangeable... and have been changed.. that number will tell you something about the year of the block. Nothing about the tractor. A 50 model block will not make a 40 model a 8N. Think about what you are saying.
Chrome radiator cap huh? You don't know what you are talking about. You are a fool.. Oh and you having a Funk means nothing to me. or anyone else. Is it "painted grey like it supposed to be"... You are a liar and a fool.
When you said "transmission driven PTO's" is that the same as what some people call a "live PTO"? It's been a while since I have used a tractor with a brush cutter, but I don't remember being pushed after depressing the clutch pedal. Did I understand you correctly when you said the purpose of a coupler is to keep the brush cutter's spinning blades or their "momentum" from pushing the tractor after depressing the clutch pedal? Most of the small tractors I've used were 8N Fords.
+Kirby : nope, not AFAIK. "live PTO" refers to modern ones which have a separate clutch and are not powered through the transmission, so to speak. For the second question, yes. My sister also had an 8N and I ended up putting an overrun clutch on it. They really didn't care either way, it's not like you can't stop the tractor, but I thought it was a good idea. You only have to not stop in time once to wish you had the coupler on it. I also think anytime you can reduce unnecessary stress on equipment is a good thing also. As far as your specific brush cutter, who is to say it doesn't have a freewheel built in? The only reason not too is cost and a reason to put one in is for the company to reduce warrantee work(well, I guess except work on the clutch, lol). I know my sister's cutter was an old cheap one with no freewheel. As a matter of fact, I think it was the brush cutter than broke the adapter than was on the tractor. That 8N had a very small obsolete PTO spline design and someone put a small adapter on it for modern equipment. It was disguised so well I didn't know it was an adapter until it broke. Well, I hope I answered your 2 year old question, lol. ;)
Please show how to fine tune timing
I did not hear what the gap set on??
This would have been pretty good IF it had been in FOCUS !!
what size roll pin was that 508‐0860??
What if you didn't pay attention to how the other one came out where do you put the wire that comes off of the condenser
Look it up😂
I have a old te20 that needed a adapter/converter to make it fit this topper, would a overun fit onto the adapter as well fine
what gage is the feeler gage ?
I’d like to also know

Too bad you used a noisy, horrible resolution POTATO CAM to shoot the video.
Very difficult to see.
How do you cover it if your using a orc on it ?
I want a wraparound shield for mine, but i guess they dont make them.

you should put an amazon link to the part you purchased....so you can get a percent of the sales... I'm going to find/buy one now. :)

Thanks for the info guys

Interesting. My 135 is not a direct drive. I didnt realize some where.

You obviously don't have a clue as to what you are talking about.
@@tonybyrne3613 wouldn't it have been easier just to answer the question, instead of being a smart ass .

Thanks Rick
What is the point setting

Is the plug supposed to thread out? , i had to drill it out and then smack it out with a punch. Very helpful and easy to follow video, thank you.
what kit did you use. I need a good on for a 9N

There is no such thing as a 1952 Ford 9N tractor. The last 9N was built in 1947.
