Valley Reels Presents
Канада
Добавлен 5 фев 2024
Started in early 2024, Valley Reels is an evolving project that aims to shed light on folk and folk-related musicians living or performing in the Ottawa Valley. Every first Sunday of the month, we release a video of a local or touring musician sharing an original song. We love supporting small town talent and touring acts alike, for folky music is for everyone and comes from everywhere.

Dalton Carew on Instagram: daltoncarew
'Twas a cold and lonesome October night when in folksy pleasures did the Valley Reelers Three delight!
This month we shot Dalton Carew's song "Layman's Lament" in the freezing cold at our local Byward Market parking garage, right here in the heart of downtown Ottawa. When Dalton's not behind the camera working on this channel, you can regularly find him here busking folk songs old and new, well into the wee morning hours.
A true folk musician, Dalton got his start writing by reimagining traditional songs, though he is in no way a traditionalist. While he maintains a close tie to...

This month we met up with Ottawa local songwriter Oddeline to film her song "Mercury Ascendant" in her downtown apartment. Oddeline's songs are as varied as her influences, ranging from Brazilian Tropicalia to 60's singer songwriter, to funk and R and B. With this song, she shows her roots as as a folk singer/songwriter in full force. Mercury Ascendant is a tongue in cheek protest against the s...

We caught up with Kate up Wakefield this month to shoot her song Concrete Cowboy in her house up in Wakefield. Kate's a woman of many talents: a carpenter, a banjo builder, a pearl inlayer (she made all those bolo ties at the start of the video), and not least of all an expert songwriter. Kate's the real deal when it comes to folk country, she's got an ear for the lonesome, and dives right into...
Corbin Hawkins - How Sweet is Life | Valley Reels Presents
Просмотров 1879 месяцев назад
We had the pleasure of catching up with Corbin this past December, and are consistently blown away by his rich imagery and evocative storytelling. He's a man who knows how to write a lean song; he makes every word count. How Sweet is Life captures one of those funny little moments of fleeting connection between two strangers. Be it a shared glance, a reflected gesture, just pure dumb luck, ever...
Really lovely
That microphone captures your voice well .
Hahahaha, killer song explanation on top of a great song
Is this on Spotify or Apple Music?
Amazing and inspiring
Great song, great performance, and a great reso-guitar you got there, too!
thanks Dan!
So beautiful!
Thanks Talise!
Never heard fretless banjo before, love it. A voice so warm and genuine. I can’t wait for more.

Gonna be a short wait!
Beautiful in so many ways. Keep the videos coming!

wow - that's a strong song which describes the situation we're thrown in as beings. and it's about trust. very well performed, also I liked the artful video presentation!
Thanks Wolf!
🌹🌹🌹🌹🍀
Are you happy?
I'm glad I found your music! I'll be purchasing your EP once my paycheck hits :)
Absolutely killing it boys!! Love it.
Pain's the building blocks towards recovery and excellence, and you're special. Keep on!
talented artist. This channel has good potential, looking forward to seeing more. I’d maybe caution too much talking and interviewing about the song, especially before it plays. To me,Art is supposed to speak beyond the words, and if it could be conveyed in conversation then we wouldn’t need it. The art end of things slips the message past the listener’s defenses, history, ego, etc. for instance, I had no interest in Listening to a sad song about loss . So I almost turned it off before it started. I’m glad I listened because it was a good piece. Jmo
Awesome Rory!
I’ve lived in a van or two just like that over the years and miles. Go talise!!!
What a voice! Could listen to this all day, and am on my way to doing so
Talise amazes me more every time I hear her. She makes that banjo sound like a full band, and her voice is so hauntingly beautiful!!!
Such a beautifully archaic sound. If there's anything better don't tell me cuz I'd call you a liar! :o)
Wow, Ethan. Beautiful & timeless.
Thanks Corbin!
oh wow this goes directly to soul. that fretless instrument sounds so deep. fantastic staging there at the van door. reminds me of my own past days...
❤

❤
👍 ❤ 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
Nice!!! You have the gift, Bard🙂 Thanks!
I was reading a story about Fairport Convention when I went to RUclips for a couple of their tunes. You came up as a related video and as I'm always poking around for new musical ideas (I'm a musician and songwriter), I figured I'd give you a quick listen. Glad I did. You have a great voice and the tune is very good. I like the clawhammer gourd banjo sound. I know what you mean about getting your tunes out there so you can move on to what's next. Good luck with the EP!
Simply beautiful .
really beautifully played and sung.❤
We all want to believe in our potential but few of us take the risk and thus we miss the adventure: "There is a tide..." Brutus said.
The sound of the fretless banjo reminds me of the sound of Mongolian stringed instruments. A curious hybrid between country music and something more ancient. Great vocals and indeed a great song! Very impressed.
that was soooo good! very inspired.
Real nice
Good for you Kate! Great jam :)
Adding to the "on repeat" list❤
this was such a pleasure :)
thanks for sharing this ❤
