fanned fretboard
Exploring fanned frets with 24.5" scale length on the high string side, and 25.5" scale length on the low string side. Fret #6 is the "perpendicular", un-fanned fret so they fan on both sides of that one. Inspired by fanned frets that were milled by Tim Sway from New Perspectives Music.
The layout was done in Vectric's VCarve software and the blank was machined on my ShopBot Desktop Max using a 1/2" ballnose bit to shape the radius in the blank. A 0.0213" endmill from Precise Bits was used to cut the slots for the frets and mill the star fret markers.

Please tell me how you set up the tool for this I can't get the dragknife to cut straight lines consistently any help would be so greatly appreciated
This is so amazing
Thanks for featuring us, Bill!
interesting, would love to see the engineering on this, you could pull off some really long laminated beams
Hahah, that shut me up! Cheers, David
Thanks - simple explanation, which was lacking in the "cheap CNC" instructions...
You do know that without speeds and feeds it didn’t happen. :-)
Hi Bill - can I ask please where you bought the jig for clamping the wood vertically? Thanks
It's a ShopBot product for the current version of the Desktop and Desktop Max with the removable table extrusions. store.shopbottools.com/products/edge-clamp-joinery-kit?variant=8774578700324

I need something like this restricted to blue, white, and purple for a project I'm planning. Is the programming aspect difficult at all?
can u please pass me the code, i needed for tomorrow!!!!!
It's just the reverse of that process...push the end of the collet to the side and it will snap out.
but how you remove it again?
I can't find the file to cut our those jig parts. My lap top crashed and I lost all those files. Can you post them on here please? Thanks.
Hi, where can I get one of these?? Thanks!
Is that PVC pipe in the background for a vaccum hold-down system on the buddy? If so mind sharing info on it.
Do this underneath the table to hide the cables and that would have been the perfect solution.
Simple, to the point guidance. Thanks!
Hey Bill, I'm curious about how the actual casting of the letters came out, and if you have any tips. Thanks.
To be honest I don't know how they turned out. I just cut the letters for a company that does the casting
been there done that with pvc + Pipe /tarp; when a end was blocked off and wind came along = ripped tarp? but this is way to difficult;
Amazing Project! Could you by any chance share the code?
do you have to put this shopbot to gethere your self
cool! can you PM me the set up for this?
If I may ask, what is the machine name?
where can i download partworks?
Awesome!
Is making a trip to the visitors center to watch a launch worth it? How about for kids? Tough to tell from the video, because the rocket looks so far away.
There are some perks to being at the visitor center...there's a museum/visitor center there and they make announcements over the PA keeping you informed. It is a pretty good distance from the launch pad though...it's hard to pick out the rocket before it launches.
If you decide to go you might want to bring folding chairs and binoculars, but there's plenty of grassy area for kids to run around while waiting for the launch.
I have the same question right now, does the visitor center get really full fast and is the view better on the chincoteague side ? Sorry for asking years later . I want to see the upcoming Antares launch but I live really far
do you have schematic and materials of this ?
We sure must have been close!
we must have been standing right next to each other! pretty cool!
Nice job. I've been meaning to do that to a few projects in the works. Cheers, Tim
thank you for this, saved me much hassle after my collet came off and I didn't know how it was assembled.
Do you have any advice on end mills and feeds/speeds for cutting foam?
damn lady wtf did you do to your dog? or not do?
My Labs didnt handle it as well.. check two labs Irobot
Um I think your dog is dead XD
The video we didn't see is the Roomba is multi-peices after the dog had a 'talk' with it.
Nice charging dock for your dog, why didn't you get one for your pet roomba?
Dog knows it is just a thing it seems.
That dog has given up on it's owners, I think. Haaa
